a couple of quiet ones that have bucked

the trend. Overall the UK economy has

been incredibly resilient in the face of

weakening global economies and this

has translated in to a successful year

JCB Power Products has significantly

expanded its power generation business

with the acquisition of Broadcrown Ltd, a

renowned UK producer of diesel generators

and power generation systems in the from

6kVA to 30mVA power brackets. The new

business will be known as JCB Broadcrown

with the products retaining the highly

regarded Broadcrown brand name. The range

complements JCB’s own extensive generator

portfolio and has presented another great

opportunity for JCB’s highly fuel efficient

engines in generators.

We’re very excited here at Watlings about the opportunity presented to us by this extended

power range. To ensure we deliver the sales and service experience you’ve come to love us

for, Watling JCB has nominated our centrally located Peterborough depot as the new centre of

excellence for generators. We are taking daily deliveries of generators to ensure our customers

have quick access to their power generation requirements and we’ve already geared up our

workshops with all the right equipment for maintenance and repairs. The business has taken on

new and experienced power generation staff ready to support the product in the field.

Dave Phipps joined Watling JCB in October

as Power Generation Sales Manager. He

has 12 years of experience in the power

generation industry selling leading brands of

diesel generators and other power generation

equipment around the world and has worked

with important customers including Unicef,

The United Nations, British Army and leading

global business. David lives in Leicestershire

and will cover the whole of the Watling JCB

territory. He is married with 2 young children

who keep him busy in his spare time.

our first Power Generation Service Engineer

working out of the new centre of excellence

in Peterborough. Well versed in the products

thanks to his previous role at Cummins Power

Systems, Lee is undergoing an extensive

induction period that includes full training at

JCB’s training centre and working out in the

field with experienced service engineers.

Both Dave and Lee will be working with our sub-dealer, Midas, in Ipswich who will continue to

represent us in East Anglia. We’re delighted to have them both on board.

Watling JCB will close on Wednesday 23.12.2015

and re-open on Monday 4 January 2016.

Our normal call out service will remain

in place for the Christmas holidays.

David Musson Fencing extended its fleet of

JCB Teletruks to four machines last month

thanks to continued growth of their business.

The company stocks and supplies a large

range of fencing, gates and landscaping timber

to the general public, farmers, councils and

equestrian centres. Owner, David Musson,

was formerly a farmer but now focuses solely

on his Melton Mowbray based fencing business

which is spread across a 2-acre site. He’s been

specifying JCB Teletruks as his sole materials

handling equipment for a number of years

and has just replaced one of the older units in

his fleet with the new Tier 4 model, as well

as adding the additional machine. Ben, one of

his 2 sons that work within the family owned

business, is adamant that only the JCB Teletruk

can do what is needed on site;

“These machines are invaluable to our business. The telescopic reach enables swift

loading and unloading from one side and gives us the ability to reach over obstacles to

access palletised loads. Our new machines have the JCB Changezee so that we can

quickly change between bucket and forks from within the cab which has helped us to

fulfil customer orders more quickly. On-site safety is a priority so we also specified

a Weigh Lift System on each of our new machines to ensure all loads are handled

correctly. Watling JCB went out of their way to source suitable puncture-resistant, flat

pattern tyres for the machine and of course, we’re starting to see fuel savings with the

new Tier 4 engine. Our operators love the machines and they can do so much more

than a conventional fork truck – we wouldn’t swap.”

The long anticipated new backhoe loader was launched at JCB’s worldwide headquarters in

Staffordshire back in September. The 3CX Compact is a smaller version of the iconic 3CX and

has been developed from over 60 years of backhoe expertise. The machine is designed specifically

to cope with ever more restricted sites and is perfect for road resurfacing and repair contractors,

utilities, groundworkers and municipalities working in the confines of congested

urban construction projects. Just some of the features:

JS160 tracked excavators for use on piling

projects around the UK. A second JS160 base

machine was supplied to Van Elle this month

following an increase in piling projects. We

worked very closely with the plant team there

who designed and manufactured a bespoke

piling rig in-house to handle the arduous

work demanded of the machine. Frank King is

the Plant Manager at Van-Elle and the brains

behind the rig design. He formerly specified

used equipment to work with his rigs, but

more recently opted to buy new machines

which could offer more longevity and

durability and JCB machines fitted the bill.

“We worked hand in hand with Watling

JCB to specify a machine that could be

adapted to take our piling rig. I cannot

speak highly enough of the technical

team there who worked alongside my

team and the GM Hydraulics team to

create the ideal specification. It was

tested thoroughly with us to ensure it

performed out on site. Piling jobs are

exceptionally harsh on machinery, so

it was imperative that the customised

machine was up to the job. Our first

machine has performed very well and so

it was a no-brainer to go back to Watling

JCB for the next unit. They are always

available for us and we get exceptional

service from them.”

The specialist machines are well looked after by in-house fitters at Van Elle. The service access on

the JCB machine has helped ensure that maintenance to the base machine is straightforward and

efficient whilst the service intervals ensure that downtime is kept to a minimum.
