Welcome Dear Families and Community Members, The seasons are changing once again and we are at the cusp of a new year. 2015 ushers in new opportunities and new beginnings. Here at Fletcher Maynard Community School that means providing families with new class options, introducing them to new staff and a new community school director. Our hope for the coming New Year is to continue to provide Fletcher Maynard families and the community engaging youth & adult classes as well as entertaining community events. We hope to continue to watch the Fletcher Maynard Community School flourish and encourage families and members of the community to get involved by joining us at our monthly Neighborhood Council meetings. The Neighborhood Council meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:00pm to discuss neighborhood concerns and plan for future events. We look forward to another successful and fun winter session. Our Mission The mission of the Cambridge Community Schools program is to work with residents and local institutions to provide services and activities that enhance health, learning, creative expression and the sense of community that makes Cambridge a special place.

Scholarships Did you know that Fletcher Maynard Community

School offers scholarships? A limited number of need-based partial scholarships are available to income qualifying families. Please request a financial aid application directly from the Community School office. For more information see page 17 of this brochure! ***The deadline to apply for a Winter 2014 scholarship will

Early Release Day Tuesday, March 10th, 2015

*All regular Community School classes will be cancelled. Space is limited* The Fletcher Maynard Community School will run early release day activities on days that the Fletcher Maynard Academy school day ends at 12:00 noon. This spring we will be visiting Fun World in Nashua, NH. The $30.00 fee includes transportation, admission (20 tokens), lunch (2 slices of pizza and a drink) and staffing. Advance registration is required. Please visit or contact our community school office by January 13th to register. Limited scholarships are available to qualifying families (application for financial assistance are due by Thursday, January 8th by 5:00pm).

Music Classes Lesson fee: $205 for 10 lessons

Individual Piano Lessons (Ages 5 - adult) Monday, February 2nd - Monday, April 13th (no classes

February 16th) Friday, January 30th - Friday, April 17th (no class February

20th or April 3rd) Half-hour, one-on-one piano lessons with instructor Marika Takeuchi

on Mondays & Fridays between 3:50pm and 6:05pm. Classes are booked on a first come, first serve basis.

Individual Voice Lessons (Ages 5 –Adult)

Tuesday January 13th-April 14th Half-hour, one-on-one voice lessons are available with instructors on Tuesdays between 3:50pm and 4:35pm. Classes are booked on a first

Vacation Camp

February 17th – 20th and April 21st -24th

$40 per day

Fletcher Maynard Community School is excited to offer week long adventures during February and April vacation weeks. Students can be dropped off at FMA beginning 9:00am with most trips beginning at 9:15am. Each day offers a new field trip. All trips require registration in advance and space is limited. Adult Programs

The Fletcher Maynard Neighborhood Council The Neighborhood Council serves as an advisory group to the Community School director and meets the second Tuesday of each month. We welcome all Area 4 residents, local business owners and FMA families to join and offer your support in suggesting programs to meet neighborhood needs, and discussing community issues and concerns. Our winter meeting dates are January 13th, February 10th, March 10th & April 14th. Tea and dessert will be served, childcare will be provided by our afterschool staff.

Adult Bollywood Fitness Class

Wednesdays 4:30pm to 5:30pm

With Instructor Renu Goyal. East Meets West for a fun and high energy work out! Wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle.

Cost: $5.00 per class Childcare available for an addition $3.00

Adult Healthy Cooking

Start date and time TBD Looking for healthy, easy recipes to feed your family? Come join

Annabel, a nutritionist and gardener, for a hands-on cooking class. We will talk about why it's important to fill your plate with healthy food,

and cook delicious, fresh dinners that take less than 30 minutes to prepare. Everyone, including kids, will get to try to the meals at the end

of the lesson! Cost: $5.00 per class

Program Policies and Procedures

Winter Registration

Winter session registration will begin on Monday, January 5 th and end Friday, January 16th.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

• The registration form attached to the back of this program should be filled out and dropped off during the noted registration times below.

• Additional forms will need to be completed. • There is an annual application fee of $25 per child due at registration. • Registrations must be returned to the Community School Office,

room 018. • Registrations are taken on a first come first serve basis. • After these dates registrations will be accepted on a space available

basis. • You will be notified only if the class you have chosen is full. If you do

not hear from us you may assume your child is enrolled in the selected class.

REGISTRATION HOURS

Monday - Friday 10:00am-12:30pm & 1:30-5:30pm

PAYMENTS Full payment is due at time of registration, however a payment plan can be arranged with the director. Checks or Money Orders (NO CASH) should be made payable to: Fletcher Maynard Commu- nity School. If you have an outstanding balance with any Depart- ment of Human Service Program, your child’s registration will not be accepted until all payments are made. Class fees are based on the number of weeks a class meets. Returned checks will be charged an additional $25.00. Full payment must be made within 48 hours to avoid disruption in your child’s schedule.

REFUNDS If a class is not fully enrolled, the class may be cancelled. You will be notified and given a refund, or an alternative class may be chosen. We understand that there may be times when a class is not what your child expected. A full refund will be given if we are notified within 24 hours after the first class. Partial refunds will only be given if a child is no longer able to participate due to medical reasons. Refunds are not issued for missed classes.

EARLY RELEASE DAYS Regular scheduled classes are not held on early release days. A special activity or field trip will be planned. Children must be registered in advance to attend any early release day trips.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE Partial scholarships are available to families who qualify. Please request a financial aid form from the director. Income verification in the form of 2013 tax return, W – 2 or 4 current pay stubs must be submitted with the application. All information provided will be kept confidential. Deadline for financial assistance is Thursday, January 8th, 2015 @ 4pm.

CHILD PICK UP & ABSENCES Children will only be released to those you have authorized on your child’s registration / emergency card. If there is any change in pick up arrangements the director must be notified in advance. Only chil - dren ages 9 & up will be allowed to walk home with parent/guardian permission. Please notify us my phone or email if your child will be absent from the program.

TRANSPORTATION Community Schools does not provide transportation from school to after school programming. We do not meet children at school bus stops. Only children ages 9 & up, with parent permission, may ride the bus from another school and walk into the program.

LATE FEE POLICY Instructors are not responsible for children after the class ending time. All children must be promptly picked up at the end of class.There will be a late fee of $1.00 per minute for each minute you are late after the scheduled pick up time. Late fees must be paid within 48 hours to avoid disrupting your child’s participation in the program. Chronic lateness may result in suspension of your child’s participation in the program.

PROGRAM CLOSINGS Classes are not held on city holidays, snow days or on days the Cambridge Public Schools are closed.

SCHOLARSHIP DRIVE We welcome your contribution to assist us with providing scholarships to families in financial need. You may choose to support a particular program or contribute to our general scholarship fund. We thank you for your support.

Inclusion Policy Department of Human Service Programs welcomes individuals with disabilities in all of its Out of School Time Programs. DHSP will pro- vide reasonable accommodations to individuals with disabilities who meet the basic eligibility requirements of the OST Programs or who with the provision of reasonable accommodations will be able to meet the basic eligibility requirements to facilitate equal participation for those individuals in existing OST Programs.
