These activities are designed for adults with developmental disabilities (age 18+). Participants in these activities can attend alone or with a staff/assistant they bring along. Participants are asked to register with a staff or family member if personal care assistance is needed. If attending alone, the participant should be able to function independently in a group setting, follow simple directions and communicate their needs. All reasonable accommodations will be made to meet the needs of all participants. Community Education welcomes persons of all abilities to participate in any of the activities we offer. Contact us at least one week in advance if assistance is needed. This includes sign language interpretation.

Welcome to Winter 2016! Dear H.O.P.E. Participants and Friends,

Fall was beautiful! I hope you were able to enjoy the nice weather and participate in some H.O.P.E. classes and trips. Now we’re moving right into Winter!

Do you like to make craft projects? Do you like to learn to cook? Do you like to build? Do you like to play BINGO and win prizes? How about playing basketball games? How about dancing, bowling, watching hockey, and going to plays? We’ve got it all in this season’s H.O.P.E. flyer!

Our new Winter Beach Party in January will surely be a fun break from the cold and snow outside. Take a look at what’s inside this flyer and have fun choosing which classes to sign up for. And enjoy the winter. It sure can be cold in Minnesota but it’s also a beautiful season with the sparkly snow!

Be My Valentine Craft and CardsThe day of friendship and love is almost here! What better way to celebrate than with a Valentine decoration and hand-made cards? We’ll make a heart-shaped craft and finish with card-making for family and friends. All supplies are included.

Scrap It!Whether experienced or new, gather your favorite photos to create several scrapbook pages. Supplies, tools and instructions are provided to help you organize your pictures in a new way. You can also bring any special tools and supplies you’d like to use. Bring 5-10 photos to class to use for the project, and get ready to have fun scrapbooking!



Winter CraftWinter is long, but it can also be fun! Get together with others to make a Luminary Snowman Decoration, perfect for lighting up your house this winter! This project is fun and easy to make. All supplies are included.

Build It! Homemade Wood CraftTime to get constructing! Staff from the Elk River Home Depot will help you build a tool box and a framed chalkboard out of wood while enjoying the company of others. You’ll use a hammer and nails, and finish each project by painting them to make it your own! All supplies are included.

Hip Hop BeginnersCardio fitness meets hip hop dance for a super fun workout! You’ll be having such a great time you won’t even realize the great workout you’re getting. Working out is better with friends, so grab some and get in shape together. This class includes participants with and without disabilities. A H.O.P.E. staff member will be present to assist if needed. If assistant plans to participate in the exercises, they need to also register for the class and pay the fee.

It’s based on the classic story, but with a twist. “Cindy” does all the work for her step sisters Rona, Mona and Zona and her stepmom, Wynona, but one night, a “blue moon” changes it all. I understand that the District cannot be held responsible for unforeseen circumstances or events that may occur during the activity time. I agree that the ISD 728 Community Education staff will use their best judgment and training in providing a safe experience for all of the participants. I understand that if emergency medical treatment is determined to be necessary by the staff and I am unable to be contacted, the staff will proceed with securing such emergency care, including hospitalization, as may be deemed necessary under the circumstances.
