    members of the Friends of the Yellow Barn Studio are invited to exhibit work in our annual

    juried show. Each December, the Friends hold a well-attended, competitive art exhibition to honor the outstanding talent of our members and their

    commitment to painting, drawing, and mixed media work and study. Artists submit their best work for this popular and competitive show with

    multiple prize awards. The selected juried-in works will be exhibited in our virtual gallery. There is no commission for this show (see

    eligibility requirements).We are proud to announce, Harry Cooper, head curator of the National Gallery of Art, as our Judge for this year’s show. Multiple prize awards will be awarded to Friends in the following categories:

    FOCUS ON YB INSTRUCTOR W. MICHAEL BARTMAN III

    W. Michael Bartman III teaches Learning to Draw and

    Paint on Tuesdays and Thursdays. W. Michael Bartman III

    received his art education degree from Kutztown University of

    Pennsylvania, where he concentrated on teaching and painting.

    Thereafter, Mr. Bartman was employed by Montgomery County Public

    Schools; during his tenure, he served as Director of the largest Advanced

    Placement Art program in Montgomery County. Presently, he is the

    Painting Instructor at the Landon School, a private school located in

    Bethesda, Maryland. Mr. Bartman is also the Assistant Director of the

    Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery located in Glen Echo Park, Maryland.

    He has been a two-time Outstanding Teacher of Excellence recognized by

    the Maryland Art Education Association and the Landon School.

     

    NEWSFocus on "NEW" Yellow Barn Instructors KEVIN BERLIN

    CRAIG AMARAL

    Kevin Berlin is an international artist best known for painting, sculpture, and performance. Berlin currently lives in Southampton, New York and Florence, Italy. Berlin, a Yale University Alumnus, studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and has appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Shanghai Daily, The Miami Herald, USA Today, MTV, Tokyo Television, BBC Radio, and over 40 television stations. His works are found in collections including Kim Basinger, Luciano Pavarotti, Buzz Aldrin, Quincy Jones, Bill and Hillary Clinton, President George W. Bush, HRH Princesse Antonella de Orleans-Bourbon, and General Motors. Berlin was honored by President Reagan at The White House as a YoungArts Presidential Scholar in 1983. Recent solo exhibitions include Miami, New York, and London. Kevin will teach still life and portrait classes.

    An artist since early childhood, Margaret Lashley enjoys creating art with an eye for accuracy and a feel for the essence of her subject. She loves to spend time immersed in nature, but also enjoys traveling to locations such as Paris, Italy, Japan, and Thailand to study art, museums, and architecture. She studied art and is a graduate of the College of William and Mary. Her approach to teaching is focused on helping students have fun, while mastering the foundations of good drawing skills. Margaret will teach drawing.

    MARGARET LASHLEY

    A ‘self taught’ professional oil painter for over two decades, Craig Amaral has taught beginning, intermediate, and advanced painters, privately and commercially, for over a decade. He is an award-winning published artist, including online media such as Streamline Publishing’s Salon competition. He is a member of the plein air painting community, paints with local art society’s like MAPAPA and WSLP paint outs, and participates in the MFA Paint Annapolis and the Solomon Island Plein Air Festivals. He holds an Associate of Arts from Montgomery College in Architectural Technology; majored in undergraduate art at UMD; studied at the Schuler School of Fine Art; pursued years of Yellow Barn Studio, Chesapeake Fine Art Studio, and Maryland Hall classes and workshops both here and abroad. Craig will teach a class on how to use painting materials and an on line figure with model live on Friday nights.
