When the Free and Clear Committee first met in the fall of 2013, theoutstanding mortgage balance was approximately $315,000. As a resultof the generous responses we have received, I am happy to report that, once amounts designated to reduce the mortgage have been transferredto the mortgage satisfaction account, we will have succeeded in raisingenough money to satisfy the mortgage in full.
We extend our appreciation to all of you – individuals, entities andorganizations – that have contributed to making this effort a success.
Thank You!

garden Committee Newsby Sandy Je T’aime
The Garden Committee had a very busy 2015, with an intense 2016gardening season coming. After working with Valerie Lukasiewicz on the Garden Committee since 2008, I have been appointed the newGarden & Landscaping Chair. It is with great pleasure and enthusiasmthat I have accepted this position. With Valerie’s wealth of knowledge, I will be in contact with her often. I am a certified UWEX SouthEast WI Master Gardener since 2007 and am required to attend 10 hours of continuing education each year. I am also a member of The Herb Society of America and HSA-WI Unit; and Wild Ones. I have chaired the HSA-WI Unit Herb Fair for 3 years, HSA-WI Unit Culinary Chair 2009-2015, and Chair of the HSA-WI Unit in 2011-2013. I have givenpresentations, managed booths and children’s activities at the Polish Centerand other locations. I recently completed a 6-hour course on Invasives ID &Management. Gardening has been a pleasure of mine since childhood.
YOUR TIME: Currently, we have only Certified UW Extension SouthEastWisconsin Master Gardeners on our Garden Committee. I would like to expandthis committee, and ask everyone to consider donating some time to helpmaintain the gardens, even if it’s for only one hour a week. We meet in themorning, and an evening at least two days a week for 3-4 hours. Please contactSandy at (414) 761-0020 to volunteer.
POLLINATOR GARDEN: Valerie will continue to hire Randy Powers tomaintain the native gardens planted in memory of her parents, at the entranceclosest to Rawson Avenue. Take time this spring to enjoy some of the beautifulnative flowers. This area can also be referred to as a Pollinator Garden. Manyof our members have stopped during the summer to see the butterflies in thegarden, and the area provides many flowers to encourage the bees, which havebeen in decline. The garden also provides beneficial insects.
TOUR: Morrissey, Consumer Horticultural Agent, Milwaukee County UW-Ext.,also Fox 6 Garden Host, will lead us in a tour of the beautiful trees on theproperty. This will occur in May, when the spring blossoms should be on someof the trees. Following the tour, we will enjoy finger food refreshmentsutilizing some plants on the property. Watch for updates regarding the event.
PROjECTS: We completed several projects last year, including pruning &reviving the lilac bushes and viburnum on the side of the building. Summerstorms created additional work in the area by 68th Street near Loomis Road. With a $900 grant from SouthEast Wisconsin Master Gardeners, we purchasedArctic fire dogwood, Thimbleweed white spring anemone, Glossy blackchokeberry, September Charm fall anemone, located behind the patio garden, looking out onto Lake Kopmeier. SEW MG members helped to level theground, drag and place the terrace logs for each level, and dig and plant theshrubs and protect them with mulch.
Thanks to the crew at Happy Grass, who completed the area around the pondin the front of the building. They cut and removed the buckthorn, invasivewillows and other invasives creating a very pleasing view of the pond. We hopeto include rain gardens around the pond in the future, along with continuouscattail maintenance.
Have your event at the Polish Center! Wedding, showers, anniversary, or birthday parties coming up? We havesome prime dates available. The Grand Ballroom and the Veteran’s Roomoffers a beautiful view of Koepmier Lake and the food is outstanding. Ourexperienced staff will strive to create a memorable experience frombeginning to end in facilitating each and every detail.

Facility Committee NewsOrganized in 2007, the goal of the Facility Committee is to take care of thebuilding and its portable assets, as well as to address garden, grounds andlandscaping issues. It has an aesthetics and décor subcommittee, as well as agarden and landscaping subcommittee.
In 2008, it engaged Reserve Advisors to prepare a comprehensive 20-year planto assist in mission accomplishment. Over the years, as a result of committeework, we have replaced exterior trim and woodwork, replaced the main entrydoors, redone the entire outside of the building and replaced the walkwayfrom the building to the road, to mention a few of many accomplishments.
We have an ambitious list of things to do, including parking lot replacement, improving outside lighting, carpeting replacement, floor refinishing, achievingenergy savings and a new gardening and landscaping program, to mention a few.

Polish Festby Jeff Kuderski
This was my second, but first -full festival as PolishFest Director.
I am happy to report that we had a successful PolishFest for 2015! Despite the weekend that washampered with rain, cold and fog – which adverselyimpacted our attendance - we still were able toproduce a double digit profit for the Polish HeritageAlliance to help support our mission at the PolishCenter. In addition, we were able to continue topresent our arts, culture and tradition that isuniquely Polish to nearly 30,000 people in
attendance as well as the reach of people that we impacted with ourmarketing- how priceless is that in regards to our mission of promoting ourPolish Culture and awareness.
NOW FOR 2016...The 35th Anniversary of Polish Fest will be celebrated June 17-19, 2016 at the Henry Maier Festival Park (also known as theSummerfest grounds). This year’s fest will showcase the history of PolishFest from its beginning to the present. Our Cultural Display will highlightmemorable moments of the last 35 years, including entertainment, souvenirs, brochures, and most importantly, our volunteers. Without thededication and hard work of all the volunteers over the last 35 years, therewould be no Polish Fest and no Polish Center of Wisconsin. The purpose ofthe Festival 35 years ago was to showcase the rich pride, heritage, food, music, and customs of Poland and to raise enough money to build a PolishCenter. Fifteen years ago we were able to make the dream a reality when thePolish Center was built.
Kicking off on Friday, June 17th will be the Capuchins’ Run Walk for the Hungryevent. It’s a 5K Run & 2 Mile Walk with over 3,000 participants. WITAMY!
Throughout the weekend we can enjoy 5 stages of entertainment, thecultural village, folk art and cooking demonstrations, Polish Artists, PolishFolk dancers, the Sukiennice Marketplace, Children’s Area, Little, Junior andTeen Miss Polish Fest Pageant, the 18th Annual Chopin Youth PianoCompetition, our Kawiarnia Polish Bakery, Polish and American food, ChopinVodka lounge, our two Tyskie beer gardens and of course the Big Boomskifireworks display presented by Planners Financial. I am especially happy toannounce that we are able to have the Reverend Archbishop Listecki as ourmass celebrant for the Fathers Day Sunday Mass.
I do want to thank many of our members that have committed to sponsor-ship of Polish Fest 2016 already, and invite those who have not to consider. There are many levels to participate in; each with various rewards; but thebiggest reward is to know that you were part of the many that helped withthe needed capitol to build a living example of the arts, culture and traditionthat is uniquely Polish. While it may be our children’s glimpse into theirheritage, our grandparent’s nostalgic walk through their past or just visitorsof different ethnic backgrounds. we all get a better understanding of Polandand its people.
Polish Fest would not exist without the hard work and commitment ofhundreds of volunteers as well as sponsors who donated both time andmoney to make our annual three-day festival a success. Thank you to all thathave committed for 2016; but we still could always use more.
Do you have anyPolish Fest
Memorabilia? We are looking for any memorabiliathat you may want to loan to us fromthe past 34 years that will be used aspart of the 35th Anniversary Exhibitat Polish Fest this year.
We’re looking for Polish FestBrochures, photos, souvenirs, etc. Please drop them off at the PolishCenter by March 14; we will returneverything to you after the festival.
