I am delighted that we have been able to offer our young musicians the opportunity

to perform in the home of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra at MediaCityUK for the

second year running. During the day we will see, and more importantly hear, several hundred of our talented

young people perform. A wide range of performers will be on show, from our beginners who only started

to learn in September, through to our most advanced players in the Concert Band, Philharmonic Orchestra

and Jazz Collective.

This year Trafford Music Service are again working with every Trafford Primary school delivering a range

of music provision ensuring access to music for all Trafford Primary age children. Our work in Key Stage 3

and 4 is growing too and we are now working with over 60% of Trafford secondary schools. I am pleased

to welcome as our special guests this year singers from Sale High School Voxbox. We are proud to be

delivering all the instrumental and ensemble tuition in Sale High School and Wellacre academy for boys

and have just started a fantastic programme at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys delivering whole class

instrumental projects for the Year 7 pupils.

Our Music Centre and Youth Orchestra provision has again seen tremendous support from POPs

(Parents of Players) organisation in arranging ticketing for this event, the coaches and finance for the

residential trip to Paris, the running of the tuck shop each week, along with their on-going work forming

a charity so that we may attract external funding to ensure the continuation of our Youth ensembles and

Music Centres. My sincere thanks to all of them for this commitment.

We have recently launched our Play your Part programme (see flyer) and bursary scheme which will help

us to ensure that all pupils who want to, are able to access our provision and would like to thank particularly

those parents and members of the community (listed opposite) who have already donated to this scheme.

And finally I would like to thank most sincerely all the family and friends of players who are here today,

supporting our young people in achieving the highest musical standards through their weekly commitment

to rehearsals and practise at home. It is your support that enables them to be part of our Music Centre and

Youth Orchestras, and without your support none of this provision would be possible.

Residential Trip to Paris

On 28th October 2013, 84 of our Music Centre and Youth Orchestra children set off on our music residential

trip to Paris by coach. We met at 3am on Monday morning, which unfortunately was forecast with storms

(we couldn’t believe the bad luck!) meaning that the ferry ports were closed! Luckily they re-opened in

the afternoon and our trip was able to continue with only minimal delays. Our young musicians excelled

themselves as usual with their brilliant behaviour and attitude while we waited.

The trip was packed with activities including trips out to Brie Markets, the Eiffel Tower and Euro Disney and of

course musical activities and rehearsals each day which culminated in a performance on the last night. The staff

at the PGL centre were fantastic and organised activities on site including archery, parachute building, abseiling

and crepe making (and eating). This trip was a great way for our young people to get to know each other, play

in different groups from usual rehearsals and learn new pieces in different styles. The musical outcomes were

fantastic and all pupils were a credit to Trafford throughout the trip!

On 22nd November there was a concert to show off the work they had done on the residential along with

the annual ‘Children In Need’ madness.

A special thank you to all staff who gave up their half term break to make this trip possible, and to Parents of

Players Support group (POPs) for taking on the organisation of finance and funding the coaches.

We look forward to another trip abroad in 2015! In the meantime we will be arranging a weekend residential

in the UK for 2014.
