Trinkst du gerne Kaffee? Wusstest du, dass du mehr als 100 Liter Wasser

verbrauchst, wenn du eine Tasse trinkst? Und dass zur Herstellung eines

Baumwoll-T-Shirts ca. 1200 Liter Wasser benötigt werden? Wenn du 0,5 Liter

Bier trinkst sind es sogar ca. 180 Liter virtuelles Wasser. Für ein Kilo Rindfleisch

werden fast 1700 Liter virtuelles Wasser verbraucht.

Der Mensch benötigt täglich eine große Menge an Wasser zum Kochen, Waschen,

Putzen und zum Trinken. Doch noch mehr braucht er an virtuellem Wasser.

Virtuelles Wasser ist die Wassermenge, die man benötigt, um ein Produkt oder ein

Erzeugnis herzustellen. Zusammengefasst wird diese Wassermenge im

sogenannten „Water Footprint“.

Tipps:

Es ist sparsamer Tee zu trinken als Kaffee. Für die Herstellung von Kleidung aus

chemischen Fasern wird weniger Wasser benötigt als für die Herstellung von

Baumwollkleidung. Außerdem hält diese länger und ist deshalb nachhaltiger.

Do you like coffee? Did you know that you need more than 100 liters

of water when you drink a cup of coffee? For producing a t-shirt made

out of cotton, about 1200 liters are needed. Whenever you drink 0.5

liter of beer, you consume circa 180 liters of virtual water in fact. One

kilo of beef requires nearly 1700 liters of virtual water.

Every day people use lots of water for cooking, washing, cleaning and

drinking, but even more virtual water is needed. Virtual water is the

amount of water that is wasted for producing a widget or other things.

This amount of water is summarized in a so-called “water footprint”.

Tips:

It is more economical to drink tea instead of coffee. Producing clothes

made out of cotton wastes more water than producing clothes made out

of artificial fiber. Additionally artificial fiber lasts longer and is thus

more sustainable.

Droht die große Dürre? Unser Planet Erde ist zu 70% mit Wasser bedeckt und trotzdem wird es für die wachsende Weltbevölkerung zunehmend ein knappes Gut. Nur 3% des gesamten Wassers sind trinkbares Süßwasser und davon ist nur ein Drittel für die Menschen erreichbar.

Danger of a great aridity ? 70% of our planet earth is covered with water but anyway there is less water for an increasing world population. Only 3% of the complete water resources are drinkable and only one third is accessible for human beings.

Gütertransport – Transportation of Goods Wir essen immer mehr Kilometer. Tomaten aus Südspanien, Erdbeeren aus Israel, Trauben aus Südafrika, Rindfleisch aus Argentinien und Wein aus Kalifornien. Bevor das Essen auf den Tisch kommt, legt es oft viele tausende Kilometer zurück. Rund 20 Prozent aller transportierten Güter sind Lebensmittel. Obwohl wir heute etwa die gleiche Menge essen wie vor 30 Jahren, legt das Essen doppelt so viele Kilometer zurück. Lebensmittel aus Übersee verursachen rund elf Mal so viel Kohlendioxid wie heimische Lebensmittel. We are eating more and more kilometers. Tomatoes from southern Spain, strawberries from Israel, grapes from South Africa, beef from Argentina and wine from California. Before the food reaches our table, it is often transported many thousands of kilometers. About 20 percent of the goods transported are foods. Although we eat today more or less the same amount of food as 30 years ago, the number of kilometers needed to transport the food has doubled. Food from overseas produces about eleven times as much carbon dioxide as local food does.

• A long-distance breakfast with products from all over the world creates more than 30 000 transport kilometers. A breakfast consisting of regional and seasonal products helps to reduce the transport distance to a tenth.

Konsumenten sollten über den Transport der Produkte informiert werden. Eine Kennzeichnung der Produkte soll über die Länge des Transportweges, die ver-wendeten Verkehrsmittel und den verursachten CO²-Ausstoß Auskunft geben. Das weltweit erste CO²-Label, welches den sogenannten Kohlen-stoff-Fußabdruck eines Produktes angibt, wurde 2006 in Groß-britannien von der unabhängigen Organisation Carbon Trust entwickelt. Produkte der britischen Supermarktkette Tesco sind bereits mit dem Label versehen.

Consumers should be informed about the transport of the products. Product labels should give information about the length of the transportation route, the means of transport used and the CO² emissions caused by the product. The British organization Carbon Trust developed the world's first CO² label, which indicates the so-called Product Carbon Footprint. Products of the British supermarket chain Tesco are already provided with the label.

Mai – May Abfall und Recycling – Garbage and Recycling Jedes Jahr fällt in den EU-Mitgliedstaaten Abfall im Umfang von knapp 2 Milliarden Tonnen an, zu denen auch besonders gefährliche und giftige Abfälle gehören. Den größten Anteil am Abfallaufkommen (mit 62 %) haben Plastikmüll und Verpackungen.

Von den rund 500 Plastiktragetaschen, die der durchschnittliche EU-Bürger im Jahr verwendet, wird der Großteil nach dem ersten Gebrauch weggeworfen. 2008 wurden in Europa insgesamt 3,4 Millionen Tonnen Plastiktragetaschen hergestellt, das entspricht dem Gewicht von über zwei Millionen Pkw. Weil Plastiktüten so leicht und klein sind, werden sie oft nicht von der Abfallwirtschaft erfasst und enden in der Meeresumwelt, wo es

Jahrhunderte dauern kann, bis sie schließlich zersetzt sind. Wegen der langen Lebensdauer von Tüten aus Kunststoff treiben derzeit allein im Mittelmeer rund 250 Milliarden Kunststoffteilchen mit einem Gesamtgewicht von 500 Tonnen. Every year the EU member states produce waste in the amount of almost 2 billion tons, including very hazardous and toxic wastes. 62 % of this waste is plastic and packaging waste. Most of the 500 plastic bags that the average EU citizen uses a year are thrown away after the first use. In Europe 3.4 million tons of plastic bags were produced in 2008, this is nearly the weight of 2 million cars. Plastic bags are so light and small that they are often not captured by the waste management and end up in the sea, where it can take centuries until they are completely decomposed. Due to the long life expectancy of plastic bags 250 billion plastic particles with a total weight of 500 tons are floating in the Mediterranean Sea.

Die Lösung ist sehr einfach. Zu den Plastiktüten gibt es verschiedene Alternativen: die herkömmliche Stofftasche, einen Einkaufskorb oder die biologisch abbaubaren Tüten aus Maisstärke. Die Tüte aus Maisstärke zersetzt sich innerhalb von nur vier Wochen. Wenn es sich nicht vermeiden lässt, die Plastiktüte zu benutzen, dann sollte man sie danach aber nicht wegschmeißen, sondern wiederverwenden. In manchen Ländern, wie z.B. in Italien, wurde die Plastiktüte aufgrund ihrer starken Umweltbelastung sogar verboten. The solution is very easy. There are many alternatives: the normal textile bag, a shopping basket or the biodegradable bags made from corn starch. The plastic bag made of corn starch decomposes within four weeks. If you cannot avoid using plastic bags, you should reuse them. In some countries, for example Italy, the plastic bag has been forbidden because of its high ecological damage.

Es gibt aber auch andere Alternativen der Müllentsorgung: In Wien gibt es ein Unternehmen namens „gabarage upcycling design“, das sich dem Wiederverwenden von Altmaterialien verschrieben hat. Erzeugt werden Designstücke, Möbel und Gebrauchsgegenstände für den Alltag. Das Unternehmen produziert auch recycelte Einkaufstaschen. In Vienna there is a company called “garbarage upcycling design” which specializes in recycling old materials and waste. They produce interior design, furniture, articles of daily use and also recycled shopping bags.

Every second, more than 1 million Coca-Cola cans are worldwide consumed! Furthermore, in average there's more than 2 packaging for a single chocolate bar! But all this consumption cause problems, doesn't it? Storage of waste is a problem. The aluminum of the can, which is most of the time wasted, is covered with varnish containing bisphenol A, it is therefore toxic. Did you know that 25% of our 390 kilos of waste are packaging? Luckily recycling aluminum is possible. Often design push us to overconsumption, this packaging is therefore, in most of the case, a marketing argument more than a real tool for preservation. Chaque seconde, plus d'un million de canettes de Coca-Cola sont consommées ! De plus, on trouve en moyenne plus de 2 emballages pour une seule barre chocolatée ! Mais toute cette consommation cause un problème, pas vrai ? Le stockage des déchets reste un problème. Short-terms solutions Avoid buying individual cans if you can buy a big bottle. Prefer glass bottles. Yet cans can incorporate over 50% recycled materials. Sorting methods exist that are unfortunately not sufficiently implemented in cities. All you have to do is throwing your empty can in the yellow box! Yellow in France, Blue in Italy etc...The EU has to harmonize colors! Long-terms solutions The eco industry can innovate and invent new ways of producing products with new environmental standards.

Evitez d'acheter des canettes individuelles si vous pouvez acheter une grosse bouteille. Favorisez les bouteilles en verre. Aujourd'hui les cannettes peuvent contenir 50% de matériaux recyclés. Il existe des façons de trier qui ne sont malheureusement pas suffisamment implantées dans les villes. Tout ce que vous avez à faire est de jeter votre cannette vide dans la boîte jaune. Jaune en France, Bleue en Italie etc … L'UE doit harmoniser les couleurs !

This almanac is the result of two years of cooperation between high school students in Austria, Denmark, France, Germany and Italy during the period from September 2011 to June 2013. The students have participated in a so-called Comenius Project, which has been subsidised by the EU under the auspices of the Lifelong Learning Programme. The almanac has mainly been established during several and alternating visits to the participating countries, in accordance with the superior principles of the LLP. The title of the project "Sustainability and Lifestyles in Europe" is meant to provide opportunity for reflection on the sustainability of our individual consumption for the next 6 years within 12 different fields.

Dieser Almanach ist Ergebnis einer zweijährigen Zusammenarbeit zwischen Schülerinnen und Schülern

aus Dänemark, Deutschland, Frankreich, Italien und Österreich. Von September 2011 bis Juni 2013

haben sich die Schülerinnen und Schüler an einer Comenius-Schulpartnerschaft beteiligt, die von der

Europäischen Union im Rahmen des Programms für lebenslanges Lernen gefördert wurde. Der Almanach

wurde während der gegenseitigen Besuche in den teilnehmenden Partnerschulen erarbeitet. Das

Projekt mit dem Titel „Nachhaltigkeit und Lebensstile in Europa“ lädt mit diesem Kalender ein, in den

nächsten sechs Jahren über die Nachhaltigkeit des individuellen Lebensstils und Konsums in zwölf

verschiedenen Lebensbereichen nachzudenken.

Cet almanach est le résultat de deux années de coopération entre des lycéens venant d'Allemagne, d'Autriche, du Danemark, de France et d'Italie durant la période de septembre 2011 à juin 2013. Les lycéens ont participé à un projet Comenius, subventionné par l'UE au sein du programme EDUCATION ET FORMATION TOUT AU LONG DE LA VIE. L'almanach a été élaboré essentiellement lors de visites successives effectuées dans les différents pays des participants, en se conformant aux directives du programme. Le titre du projet, "Développement durable et modes de vie en Europe", incite à une réflexion sur le caractère durable de notre comportement de consommateurs dans 12 domaines, dans les 6 ans à venir.

Questo almanacco è il risultato di due anni di cooperazione tra scuole superiori di Austria, Danimarca, Francia, Germania e Italia nel periodo compreso tra settembre 2011 e giugno 2013. Gli studenti hanno partecipato ad un progetto Comenius, sovvenzionato dall’EU nell’ambito del Programma per l’educazione permanente. L’almanacco è stato elaborato durante le differenti visite effettuate nei paesi partecipanti all’iniziativa, in accordo con le direttive del Programma per l’educazione permanente. Il titolo del progetto ”Sostenibilità e stili di vita in Europa" invita a riflettere sulla sostenibilità delle abitudini dei consumatori per i prossimi 6 anni in 12 campi diversi.

Denne almanak er resultatet af to års samarbejde mellem gymnasieelever i Danmark, Frankrig, Italien, Tyskland og Østrig, i perioden september 2011 – juni 2013. Eleverne har deltaget i et såkaldt Comenius-Projekt, støttet økonomisk af EU under programmet Livslang Læring. Almanakken er overvejende udarbejdet under besøg skiftevis i de deltagende lande, i overensstemmelse med de overordnede intentioner i programmet. Projektets titel, "Bæredygtighed og livsstile i Europa", lægger op til en refleksion over bæredygtigheden af vort forbrug i de kommende 6 år inden for 12 områder.
