…For Landis School!

Our Proposal…

We intend to create a winter garden and landscape the garden patch on the east side of the school. The landscaping will help make the school look more inviting and create a more welcoming atmosphere that persuades people to come into our school! We hope that when people come in to our school to learn that they feel safe and have a positive attitude towards our school!

Page 3: Winter Garden Proposal…

Our Proposal… The plants in front of the school are withering and don’t look as good as they did when they were planted past years. They have not been looked after for many years. As you can see in the picture to the right, The plant is near dying when you take a close look at it and if you look at the back of most of the plants are wrecked.

The Purpose! The Purpose of this project is to learn about what

plants require/need, the diversity of species, learning how to take care of a garden and

maintenance, sustainability, indigenous species, budgeting, and communication. This project also

helped us organize how we were going to plan out where the plants go and what the outcome will turn

out like.

Where?Our plan is to re-

landscape the East side of the school. We chose this side and this patch to become our garden because we think that

we can make the school even more inviting and more

pleasing to see when others drive by our school. We plan to

make the entrance of the school more

colourful and more appealing to the human

eye!

Page 13: Winter Garden Proposal…

Why?The plan of this project is to create a more friendly environment for our school. We believe this will help attract more people. With the new Leadership program coming into action in the school, a welcoming entrance helps promote our school and show that we ARE a leadership school!

Our Budget!

Page 15: Winter Garden Proposal…

Safety Features! With the rain barrel shown here, we believe that if we use these ones vs. one with no lid this is the one to choose. This is child safe and water is easily accessible. This one can hold up to 75 gallons of water which is plenty to keep our plants nurtured and healthy. These cost around $179.99 each and would be very beneficial to our winter garden. We would only plan to have 1 of these since they hold 75 gallons.

Connections with Academics! This PBL is in connection with 2 classes: PAA (Practical and Applied Arts) and Science 10. We also used our skills from

Mathematics and ELA (English Language Arts). For the Mathematics we added our budget total, calculations of the area, the area that each plant covered and finding out the

quantity of each plant. Also we will need to have fundraisers for our winter garden. For ELA we are completing a

communications component in which we will be doing oral presentations in front of the community and school body. We will be required to use persuasion and public speaking skills

to ensure our garden proposal wins! Within Science and PAA we are learning about Horticulture, meaning having to

do with plants and their needs.
