WINTER LIGHTSA FESTIVAL OF ILLUMINATIONS BY INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS
Eleven artists from nine countries present an array of spectacular illuminations throughout Canary Wharf, lighting up the darkest winter month with radiant installations and artworks. This interactive festival includes sculptures, lasers, projections and digital art from a variety of artists such as the UK’s Stephen Newby, Cédric Le Borgne from France, German design duo Heidi and Bernd Spiecker and Hungarian born artist Bálint Bolygó and many more.
From Friday 9 to Sunday 11 January, Canary Wharf will be bursting with more stunning interactive and free light spectacles for a special family friendly Winter Lights Weekend. Watch out for ghostly dresses made by 3D weaving of optic fibres, an LED graffiti wall activated by water, amazing glow performers after dark and much more.

STEPHEN NEWBY
MIDDLE DOCK5 – 30 JANUARY
Throughout January a series of illuminated pools in different colours will appear on the surface of the water in Middle Dock. Look closer and each pool appears to be an endless vortex of light plunging down into the depths. Based on the Infinity Mirror principle, the effect is delightful, surprising and mystifying.

Ahead of this amazing festival, a giant face has appeared in one of Canary Wharf’s
Christmas trees! As the wind plays around it the face comes alive and appears to move,
blink, frown, smile and even grow older. The face is a self-portrait of the artist who
created this enigmatic projection.
Born of Czech political refugees, Karel Bata is now based in London.

LIGHTBENCH & HEATBENCH
This laser light installation animates the space between the surface of the water and the dock
edge with a spectacle of shifting colour. Vertical strips of mirror cover the dock’s wooden
fenders around the perimeter, reflecting the play of water during the day and deflecting the
scanning laser beams during the evening.
Born in Hungary, artist Bálint Bolygó moved to Britain at the age of 9 and lives in London.

Three pyramidal light sculptures play with the relationship between light, space and time. Beams of light projected from the apex of each pyramid are choreographed to illuminate the web of wires within the structure, causing sparks of light to appear out of the dark and fly into the air before vanishing.
Created by French artists Roland Devocelle and Audrey Rocher. atsara.fr

Like travellers from another realm, an ethereal deer feeds and two men fly in Jubilee Park. These poetic wire sculptures take on a new
presence as dusk falls and they begin to glow with light.
