QUALIFICATIONS FOR ABE STUDENTS

¢  16 years of age or older

¢ NOT enrolled or required to be enrolled in school under the compulsory school law. Mississippi - 16 years old �  Withdrawal documentation is required

¢ Lacks sufficient mastery of basic educational skills (below 8th grade) – lacks ability to function effectively on the job, in the family, or in society

¢ Lacks a secondary diploma or high school equivalency

¢ Unable to speak, read, or write the English language 6

�  Concurrently enrolls students in connected adult education and eligible postsecondary programs leading to a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent and at least a one-year college-level certificate/credential and beyond;

�  Includes at least a 25% instructional overlap in ABE and CTE courses;

�  Provides students with intrusive counseling and supportive services to attain academic and career goals. Support services such as academic and career counseling, tutoring, child care, transportation, access to entitled public benefits, subsidized jobs, etc.; 16
