Why Bother Monitoring?Firstly, I should explain what monitoring is. Most
people would have heard of BT Redcare, which
is a bit like saying ‘Hoover’ for a vacuum cleaner.
Redcare is a form of monitoring, in other words,
how you automatically let the police or fire
brigade know your alarm has gone off.
Why you should bother monitoring is fairly
obvious, well, you would think so, however the
facts remain that most fire alarms in the UK are
not monitored! When you think that the
average cost of installing a fire alarm is £5K,
then I often wonder why people have not spent
the £150 a year for basic monitoring?
Facts on FiresThere are 3,000 fires in the UK each week.
85% of SME sized businesses that suffer a
major fire either never recover or cease
trading within 18 months.
The cool thing about Monitoring is that you can
use the same device to monitor your fire alarm
and intruder alarm which most people don't
realise and end up spending more
on monitoring than they need to.
I've written a more detailed blog
on this which you can read on

‘The Responsible One You Are’Now first things first, many people believe that because weservice and maintain their fire systems, we are then responsible. But the truth is, the person in charge of the building is…(You guessed it) RESPONSIBLE.
As the responsible person you must carry out a number of tasks on a
regular basis to ensure you and your building remain compliant. If you are
in charge of a building then you must know what you are responsible for.
This responsibility often lies with you as an individual not your organisation.
