Cognitive radio-• Cognitive Radio (CR) is being considered as a highly promising technique for
addressing spectrum scarcity and improving spectrum efficiency.
• Main objective of cognitive radio is fast spectrum band discovery by using low power.
• Primary users (PU).
• Secondary users (SU).
• Spectrum holes.
• Spectrum sensing.
Basis points in cognitive radio technology-

Spectrum sensing schemes
• Non cooperative • Cooperative • Time division energy efficient technique
Non cooperative – a single SU is used for obtaining the activity of two channels. In one sensing slot, the SU can sense only one channel.
Cooperative – In this scheme two SUs can sense two different channel at the same time.

3.Time division energy efficient sensing- In this sensing scheme the sensing period is divided into an optimal number of timeslots and each Secondary User (SU) is assigned to detect a different channel in one time-slot.
• After sensing all SUs shall send the sensing results to the fusion center tomake the final decision based on a fusion rule.
Advantage of TDEE sensing- Energy saved because no need to share control message to all secondary users.
