Vital sign data is among the most granular information that clinicians assess on a daily basis. Yet, too often, there's a lag between data capture and data sharing. That's because typically a nurse or patient-care technician must manually capture and write down vital signs and then transcribe those statistics onto various charts and/or enter them manually into healthcare information systems. The result: unacceptable and avoidable delay between the recording of the data and the time the data is available electronically for a physician to view and analyze the data. In addition, the manual transcription can potentially introduce errors into the process.

TM Meditel and effective solution to streamline and accelerate the capture and sharing of a range of vital signs data. Using a shared handheld device equipped with a standard infrared port, a nurse or technician can automatically and accurately capture vital signs data. The user can do this by either manually entering the numbers on the PDA's touchscreen or by simply pointing the handheld device's infrared port at the bedside monitoring instrument.

Back at the nursing station, the nurse or patient care technician simply returns the shareable handheld device to its cradle to charge. The data from the device is synchronized with the back-end healthcare information system either wirelessly after each patient or via the cradle after a group of patients. From there, the vital signs data is automatically entered in the patient's medical record, where it can be immediately reviewed by authorized users.

Automatically Captures all Standard Vital Signs - If your facility uses electronic TM bedside monitoring instruments, Meditel Vitals Capture can wirelessly capture a

patient's temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation data through an infrared device-to-device data transfer.

If your facility doesn't use infrared-equipped bedside monitoring devices, your clinical staff can still quickly enter a patient’s vital signs on a handheld device through a simple on-screen interface while moving from bedside to bedside.

In addition to vital signs, your clinical team TM can use Meditel Vitals Capture to manually enter other useful clinical data on the mobile

device, such as inputs/outputs and pain assessments.

Clinicians can record pain assessments using Numeric, Neonatal Infant Pain Scale, Non-Verbal, or Wong-Baker (Pediatric) pain scales.

The nurse or technician can optionally use the shared PDA equipped with barcode scanning capability to scan a patient ID bracelet and confirm a patient's identification before capturing vital signs (manually or via infrared). Alternatively, he or she can simply select the patient from an on-screen list.

Capturing and recording vital signs is valuable in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

TM Meditel Vitals Capture improves accuracy in several ways. First, it eliminates the need to manually record vital signs on paper and then manually enter that data a second time at a keyboard to update a back-end HIS system. It can also improve patient identification through the use of optional barcode scanning of the patient’s ID bracelet. And, by presenting the results of the previous reading, it can help the nurse or technician quickly detect anomalous measurements.
