156. Roadside Infiltration Ditch Compost. Replace entire section titled C.3 Placement and Settling of Roadside Infiltration Ditch Compost with the following:
C.3 Preparation, Placement and Settling of Roadside Infiltration Ditch Compost IH 39 NB/SB Roadside Infiltration Ditch Compost Place 4-inches of roadside infiltration ditch compost on top of previously placed roadside infiltration ditch granular backfill sand, as detailed in the plan, within the same calendar day of the roadside infiltration ditch granular backfill sand placement. The placement of roadside infiltration ditch granular backfill sand is paid for separately. Rototill the 4-inches of roadside infiltration ditch compost into the previously placed roadside infiltration ditch granular backfill sand to an elevation approximately 1-foot below the proposed elevation of the roadside infiltration ditch. Methods to induce mild settling of the roadside infiltration ditch compost layer, such as lightly tamping, may be used to prepare a stable planting medium and to stabilize the ponding depth. Vibrating-style plate compactors or other vibratory compactors are not allowed to induce settling.
Infiltration Pond (VA Ramp) As detailed in the plans, excavate the roadside infiltration ditch area to a depth of 4 inches. Excavation of the roadside infiltration ditch area is paid for separately under bid item Excavation Common. Within the same calendar day of excavation, place 4 inches of roadside infiltration ditch compost. Rototill the 4-inches of roadside infiltration ditch compost into the existing sand and gravel strata to an elevation approximately 1-foot below the proposed elevation of the roadside infiltration ditch.
Methods to induce mild settling of the roadside infiltration ditch compost layer, such as lightly tamping, may be used to prepare a stable planting medium and to stabilize the ponding depth. Vibrating-style plate compactors or other vibratory compactors are not allowed to induce settling.
Replace the last paragraph in section titled C.4 Compaction Avoidance with the following:
Avoid smearing during the placement of the roadside infiltration ditch compost of the existing sand and gravel strata or the previously placed roadside infiltration ditch granular backfill sand layer and the roadside infiltration ditch compost layer.
