PREP YOUR SURFACE: • Seal your surface with wood sealer, sand lightly
and wipe with a tack cloth. • Undercoat the surface with Black Media Gesso.
Gesso gives you an incredible surface to paint on as well as adding another layer of protection to your wood surface.
PAINT THE BACKGROUND: • Paint the background using a slip slap brush
technique, load your 1” wash brush with Moon Yellow, and dip one corner of the brush into Orange Flame and the other into Bright Orange. Do not blend your brush on your palette; instead take it directly to your surface. Begin base coating the surface by using the slip slap technique and randomly vary your color placement on the surface to develop a mottled look. Reload your brush as needed to paint the entire piece; this will become the background and will fi nish off the edges. Reload and apply a variety of layers to develop the look you prefer.
• Place the small end of the Small and Medium Bubble Wrap Stencil onto the board and randomly stencil using Orange Flame.
• Transfer the design to the front of the board using your favorite transfer method.
GHOSTS:• Float the ghosts with Snow White glazing over
the body of the ghost with a transparent wash of paint so that the background is still visible. Use as many layers as needed to achieve the level of transparency as you prefer.
• Float shade with Sapphire Blue. This should be a light glaze fl oat; you can always add layers to deepen the shaded areas. Note the pattern photo for placement.
• Using a circular motion dry brush the cheeks with Electric Pink.
• Base the eyes and mouth with Payne’s Grey.
