We have a little problem
Most baptized Catholics have not experienced a deep encounter with Christ…
Not knowledgeable in faith Most adults: not engaged with us
What can we do?

Core work What is our CORE Work?
It is the Core Mission of the parish, defined by Vatican II and post-conciliar Statements.
Every element of parish life must reflect the mission

Mini-Courses
What are they? Short, defined areas of study Combined with faith sharing Purpose: to integrate faith into daily life Usually 6 to 10 sessions per Mini-Course
For example: A Mini-Course on the person of Jesus
Christ
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
When do you use them? Parent gatherings while kids are in class The morning mass crowd going a bit
deeper RCIA Youth Ministry & Confirmation School programs Adult formation offerings Our case: Retreat follow up
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
Why do they succeed? A beginning that is clear With a scope that is reasonable And an end that is within sight
Critical conversation about faith Which tends to “go home with them.”
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
How do you construct one? Take a limited topic But not too limited Break it into bite sized pieces
5 – 10 sessions Package it with “Learn & Teach” Create a mystagogical element And an Ignatian prayer form
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
Learn & Teach Break the material into small chunks
and assign each to a small group The group draws out the major points
Creates a one-page flip chart sheet on them which will be presented to all
And prepares one of the points for dialogue in diads in the larger group
They learn by teaching
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
Mystagogy Ugh! A terrible word! Pause, look back a bit
Ask what touched your heart in this What caught your eye What word lingers in your ear
Move from that into deeper study with Learn and Teach
www.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
Ignatian prayer form Pause to ask how you would talk to
God about our faith For example, about Catholic teaching on
our responsibility for the poor Using writing and notes, talk to God in
your own words Share this as part of the closing
prayerwww.ThePastoralCenter.com
Mini-Courses
The “text” It’s important to have something in
their hands which will go home Should look valuable – not a
photocopy Build your Mini-Course on the content
of this “text” Faithful to the Church But easy to read

A short commercial…
What would work for adults? Affordable With excellent Study Guides Organized into Mini-Courses High quality and substantial Based only in the Catechism But in plain language – and brief! Did I mention affordable?
So…
We took the Catechism of the Catholic Church
Broke it down into sensible bite-sized pieces
Summarized and highlighted Added original artwork And published it affordably
