BUILDING OR RENOVATING A FACILITY?

If you are building or renovating a facility – or even thinking about doing so – ABC offers a workshop that you simply can’t afford to miss. “Designing Your Dream Facility: Survival of the Fittest,” an interactive design workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 1, presented by Erik Kocher and Stephen DeHekker of Hastings & Chivetta Architects, will offer you a hands-on opportunity to develop a model project. In a team format, you’ll compete to design a model facility, learning about everything from budget limitations and building components to site requirements and maximizing your program.

Following the workshop, 14 sessions in two Facility Design & Construction tracks will build on the workshop, offering sessions from creating a capital project budget and developing a business plan to facility design metrics, renovation strategies, partnerships and sustainable design. Attend this workshop and seminars and we guarantee you’ll be much more prepared to bring your project from concept to completion.

SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY (SDSU)RECREATION AND SPORTS FACILITIESWednesday, Dec. 1 – 12:00PM-4:30PM

Built with a series of initiatives known as Green Love, the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) and the Aztec Aquaplex strive to reduce the energy used in their facilities, explore the use of renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint. The Aztec

Aquaplex saves on irrigation water by replacing the natural grass with synthetic turf and thus eliminates the need for mowing and fertilizing. Over 840 photovoltaic panels generate electricity and large re-circulating water heaters above spectator bleachers save natural gas. At the ARC, a cool “white roof” reflects sunlight and decreases air conditioning costs. Energy costs are reduced by re-commissioning the Center’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. And instead of metal, ARC uses lockers made from 100 percent post-consumer-recycled milk containers. In addition to the Recreation Center and Aquaplex, tour-goers will see Viejas Arena, Aztec softball field, the Sports Deck and Tony Gwynn Baseball Stadium, along with other Green Love initiatives.Cost: $59 per personCEUs: ACSM, Can-Fit-Pro, Cooper, IACET

THE SALVATION ARMY RAY AND JOAN KROC CORPS COMMUNITY CENTER Wednesday, Dec. 1 - 1:30PM-4:30PM

The key word in this facility’s name is “community.” The 12.4-acre Kroc Center does indeed have something for users of all ages. In addition to the more common recreational venues like an aquatic center,

gymnasium, athletic field and ice arena, the Kroc Center offers more comprehensive opportunities and on a grand scale. An education center provides positive life-changing experiences to children, teens, adults and seniors. A family services building includes such resources as a Head Start Child Development Center. A 33,000-square-foot performing arts center houses not only a theater for major productions, but also studios and practice rooms. Made possible by a generous gift from philanthropist Mrs. Joan Kroc, the Center also includes a venue that was the top request of area children, an indoor skate park. The center even has the Kroc Church.Cost: $59 per personCEUs: ACSM, Can-Fit-Pro, Cooper, IACET

MEET THE PEOPLE. TEST THE PRODUCTS. FEEL THE ENERGY!

Attending the industry’s leading trade show is a very efficient move. Where else could you find the latest equipment, products and services from more than 300 manufacturers and, all under one roof?

What’s more, spending a few days with hundreds of like-minded people will open your mind to many new ideas.

But the popular Athletic Business trade show offers another less tangible yet equally valuable take-away. Getting to know so many people who share your enthusiasm for recreation, athletics and fitness reaffirms the value of your work and reenergizes you to move your organization forward!

At this four-in-one trade show (ABC, ICAA, MFA, NAYS), you’ll connect with manufacturers who want to see you succeed. They represent all the key segments of the industry:

• Fitness, Recreation and Sports Equipment • Lighting• Surfaces • Lockers• Pool Components • Seating• Architectural Services • And more!

“ ”The Athletic Business Conference was a wonderful opportunity to learn from the best, network and see old friends. The various vendors made it a top notch shopping event for all to enjoy. Thank you ABC!
