Mines:Typical applications include opencast or tunnel mines and boring machines. The transformer enclosure must be air tight and explosion proof to provide protection against aggressive environmental factors, as well as provide a cooling system to dissipate the losses. In this case, HPS Europe transformers ensure a superb level of proven reliability with a remarkable reference list. For harsh environment applications, HPS Europe provides a high degree of product customization in order to meet specific and strict requirements.

Heavy Industry:Typical applications include aluminum smelters, steel mills, paper mills, etc. Transformers for such applications require a high level of protection against corrosion, humidity, and dust. HPS Europe provides an excellent engineering and customized solution for the most challenging needs.

Chemical and Petrochemical Plants:Typical applications include galvanic lines, oil pumping and gasifying base stations. Transformers need to have a high level of protection against corrosion, humidity, dust, and high current (50KA). Rectifier transformers are used with 12 or more pulses utilizing air forced and IP protection up to 56. HPS Europe provides an optimal level of technical understanding and specific solutions for the most demanding applications.

HPS Europe has experience in marine and offshore power supplies on auxiliary, control and propulsion systems. HPS Europe dry-type transformers are the safest solution for providing the required energy to ships and platforms.The need to generate increasing amounts of electric power aboard ships and the significant development of solid state devices has led to the use of electrical propulsion and auxiliary services. These systems require special dry-type transformers for the saline atmosphere and a high degree of security to avoid risks. Special dry-type transformers can be found in the auxiliary services for electricity supplied by on-board generators that must be transformed and distributed to the various utilities inside the vessel. Of these, static converters require transformers and inductors for power factor correction and harmonic reduction.

HPS Europe has the experience and knowledge for drilling thrusters and distribution transformers on Oil & Gas platforms. The IP44-IP56 transformers AF cooling systems guarantee a substantially longer life due to the optimized control of the internal temperature.HPS Europe dry-type transformers for marine and offshore applications are designed, manufactured, and approved by marine standards including ABS, Bureau Veritas, DNV, RINA, and Lloyd’s shipping register.HPS Europe products have been recognized on military naval applications by demanding tests of certificate institutes (i.e. CETENA approval) which check the resistance to vibrations, collisions, shocks (30G), etc.

Power Electronic Converter Transformer:Dry-type transformers for power electronic converters at low and high voltages are referred to as “special-purpose products” because the design is tailor-made for high-current solutions as well as for industrial applications.HPS Europe’s experience in high power and static converters has allowed us to investigate in different areas on AC/DC 6-12-18-24 pulse and DC/AC applications (such as UPS, battery rechargers, drives for automation, active filters, rectifiers, etc.) on industrial power equipment and systems. The technological development of static converters and higher power levels has enforced ongoing improvements in reliability, flexibility and performance of the magnetic components used, whose characteristics depend on their operating voltage and the currents involved. This has led to their increase use in both industrial and civil applications.

Distribution TransformersDry-type transformers are frequently used for the distribution of electrical energy. Distribution transformers provide the necessary power for systems and buildings; therefore, the operation of the transformer must be reliable, efficient and quiet. HPS Europe distribution transformers are environmentally safe and suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. They are used to convert high voltages, usually from 36KV down to 250 or 435V. Applications of these products are mainly within suburban areas (public buildings, offices, hospitals, distribution substations, etc), public supply authorities and industrial customers.

Traction:The power circuits that supply substations and auxiliary services for railway and subway (trains, metros, and trams) make extensive use of transformers and inductors at the input or output of static converters. In order to insulate and protect these components that are exposed to harsh environmental conditions, magnetic components are applied. The basic requirements of these magnetic components involve compact size, reduced weight, mechanical sturdiness, low noise level, high reliability and the use of self-extinguishing materials.HPS Europe transformers and inductors used for substations are designed for overload cycles, and rectifier harmonics. The task of auxiliary services for railway vehicles is to power the various utilities installed in the carriages such as compressors, lighting, heating and air-conditioning systems with a low-voltage supply.

AirportsHPS Europe transformers and inductors are designed for power conversion, control and auxiliary equipment for airports. The transformers for auxiliary services are applied in particular on powering all kinds of airfield lighting (runway, taxiway, heliport lights, and signs). These components are designed for medium voltage (up to 24kV), low power, high overload capability, and are exposed to harsh environmental conditions. The main requirements for these components are reliability and safety.
