CUB SCOUT ADVENTURE CAMP - 2021 PROGRAMThe Adventure Camp For You With nine three day, two night sessions (July 9 through August 10), there is sure to be a Cub Scout Adventure Camp session to fit your schedule.

Enjoy fun in the water and on the water with swimming in our pool, rowboats, Corcls, kayaks, canoes, fishing and even sponge wars between the boats.

Hone your marksmanship skills at our popular shooting sports ranges. Per Ontario County law, Scouts age 9 and older can shoot BB guns while those age 8 and under will have fun with sling shots. Everyone will love hitting the target at our 16-station archery range. Learn about the wildlife, plants and trees that live at camp; play a fast-paced game of Gaga; and learn outdoor skills in our other program areas.

During open program and siesta time, you and your adult partner can participate in fun activi-ties like an overlook hike, fishing in boats, nature hike, open shoot at both ranges, outdoor skills training, cannon ball contest and much much more. What makes Cub Scout Adventure Camp different from any other Cub Scout camp around? Our campers are immersed in a themed village experience during their stay. You’ll live in the village, participate in age-appro-priate programs, earn your whittling chip (Bears) and activities in the village and interact with the costumed staff.

The Medieval Castle Scouts walk over a drawbridge and back into Medieval times. As a “Good Knight” or princess, you will create your own tunic or tiara, which you will need to participate in the royal tourna-ment. There you will test your strength, courage and teamwork skills by designing your own obstacle course. In the castle you are only limited by your own imagination.

High Seas Adventure Ahoy mates! Welcome to the High Seas! Grab your fishing pole and bathing suit because you are going on an adventure with your captain and first mate. Scouts will battle from ship to ship in a sponge toss, use a map and compass to the missing treasure, and enjoy pirate-themed fun all session long.

Native American Welcome to life before the settlers came to America. With a longhouse and a totem pole, you will hear the “Beat of the Drum” and feel as though you have stepped back in time. While in this village, Scouts will create crafts like dream catchers and bear claw necklaces. You will also learn about the beliefs behind the crafts. A game of lacrosse will sharpen your Native Ameri-can skills, and you will leave with a new appreciation for the Native American culture.

Pioneer Fort Howdy, partner! Get ready for life in the 1800s when you step inside Fort Radcliff to meet your sheriff. Scouts will spend their days as a settlers hiking throughout camp and making their own homemade butter. They will also sharpen their aquatics skills and head “Into the Woods” to learn about the plants and animals in the wilderness

Mountain Man Encampment (For Webelos and Arrow of Light Scouts only) Welcome to the rugged life on the frontier. Try building your own campsite improvement with the other seven people in your brigade. As Arrow of Light Scouts entering the fifth grade in September, you will sharpen your fire building skills and cook your own dinner over a fire you have created! And don’t forget about our awesome Camp Cutler Mud Run. To round out this adventure, you will learn all about the amazing programs and adventures that await you as a Scout.

Massawepie’s Adirondack Trek Center is

where young men and women can test their

high adventure skills on one of 17 Adiron-

dack Mountain treks. Led by experienced

Voyageur Guides, there is a trek for every

skill level. Each trek can be customized to

meet your group’s specific interests. Treks at

Massawepie provide a hassle free high ad-

venture experience and tremendous value

for your adventure.

Treks are organized by individual Scout

units or councils. The size of each trek group

is determined by itinerary and is subject to

restrictions by the New York DEC. Two lead-

ers must be 21 years of age and participants

must be 13 by January of trek year. Voya-

geur guides are certified as meeting all New

York State requirements.

Three Day Trek vs Six Day Trek Thousands of Scouts attend Camp Pioneer

at Massawepie Scout Camps each summer

for a traditional resident camp experience.

Three day trek may be added to the begin-

ning or the end or beginning of your unit’s

time at camp. Six day treks are complete

summer camp experiences. The only bad

choice is choosing not to go.

Treks are rated on their degree of difficulty

(physical endurance and outdoor skills

needed).

Ratings: 1 = easy to 10 = very difficult

Each trek is assigned a wilderness rating co-

inciding with human activities encountered

along the way rather than physical difficulty.

Ratings: 1 = see other groups and signs of

civilization to 10 = total solitude

We have two styles of treks that ensure the

maximum enjoyment for your group. They

are Exploratory and Destination treks. Each

provide different opportunities and experi-

ences. An Exploratory allows for slightly

less structure and a greater opportunity to

take a variety of day trips and possible day

hikes. Much of this can be planned as you

go, and allows scouts to help plan their trek.

Destination treks are more structured and

involve a start point and end point. This

often is preferred by older scouts who want

to cover a lot of miles. Both provide a great

opportunity to see the pristine wilderness

of the Adirondacks.

Scouting’s Adirondack High Adventure Base Camp

A Long Tradition of Unsurpassed AdventureEver since Massawepie Scout Camps

opened in 1952, it has been the base

camp for one of the greatest adventures

in Scouting – trekking New York’s beauti-

ful Adirondack Mountains. Young men and

women can test their skills on one of 11

high adventure treks.
