Welcome After the huge success of our 2019 Show, and the unfortunate cancellation of the 2020 Show due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are very excited to welcome everyone back to our fantastic showground this year for our 28th annual Mid Devon Show.
We continue to be regarded as one of the biggest Livestock one day events in the South West.
The Showground at Knightshayes/Chettiscombe continues to develop year on year. Together with the excellent access and car parking facilities, we were pleased to receive fantastic feedback from Exhibitors, Traders and Visitors alike.

However, ALL children must have ticket obtained for entry when purchasing your adult ticket.
The Showground is situated on the Tiverton to Chettiscombe by-road and is signposted from the A361 (North Devon Link Road), Junction 27 off the M5 and via Tiverton.

NB: New rules were put in place on 1st January 2020 in line with the European Holstein and Red Holstein Federation rules for showing of Dairy Cattle.
1. Shaving or cutting the hair on the ribs using the very fine blades of the trimming machines or cutters, such that the ribs appear scratched or bald is forbidden.
2. During the show only the official Veterinarian on duty has the authority to decide whether an animal should be treated or not; if so, what the appropriate medicine is; and to administer the appropriate bovine medicine.
Prize Money 1st £25, 2nd £20, 3rd £15 with Rosettes to 5th.
If more than 12 entries per class, then 4th place will receive prize money of £10.
In addition Mid Devon Champion and Reserve Champion Rosettes will be awarded in each section plus Breed awards. The judge reserves the right to split the class if required.

SHEEP CLASSES - SPECIAL NOTICE
1. Sheep Scab - Exhibitors must comply with SAC sheep scab regulations in force at the time
2. Maedi Visna - Entries for non-scheme flocks will be accepted. Exhibitors with Accredited flocks must bring their papers for verification on arrival. Separate pen areas allocated.
3. Docking - Current legislation requires that lambs must have sufficient tail retained to cover the vulva of female sheep and the anus of the male sheep. Sheep will be inspected in the lines by the Show's Veterinary Officers
4. All sheep in breed classes must be eligible for registration in the Breed Society Flock Book

Rules and Regulations 2021
1. All cattle, sheep, pig, and goat exhibitors to be in the Show Field with their exhibits by 8.30am (SHEEP 8AM) No exhibits to be removed from the Show Field before 4.00pm without written permission being first obtained from the Show Organiser.
2. The committee disclaims all responsibility for any accident to or loss by any person or animal at the show. No claim will be entertained for anything that may happen to exhibitors, their employees or those who accompany then, their property, exhibits or goods. All exhibitors should have at least third-party insurance to cover themselves.
3. It is a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall indemnify the Society and/or any official or guest of the Society against any claim arising from any accident and/or occurrence in which the exhibitor or their exhibit are involved. The Society reserves the right to remove an animal from a ring and/or the Showground if considered dangerous. Animals should not be left unattended.
4. The Society may, in its absolute discretion, postpone cancel or abandon the Show without giving reasons and such decision shall be final and binding on exhibitors. Exhibitors shall not have any claim against the Society or any member of the Society in respect or any loss or damage consequent upon the Show or part of the Show, (for whatsoever reason) being postponed, cancelled, or abandoned. In the event of cancellation, the return of exhibitor fees will be at the discretion of the Society and will not exceed the amount of the payment received from the exhibitor. In the event of postponement or abandonment there will be no return of payments. In no event will any consequential loss be paid.
5. It is the right at their absolute discretion to put forward or alter any class without notice if found expedient to do so and the right to refuse any entry and to cancel or amalgamate any class if less than three entries or otherwise without necessarily, giving a reason. The Society reserves the right to withdraw that breed section in the event of there being less than 4 exhibitors in anyone. All livestock must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor for one month prior to the closing date for entries. Full breeding details to be provided in breed classes.
6. Suitable clothing must be worn for the purpose, in particular footwear. 7. The Society will adhere as closely as possible to the published schedule and
programme but reserve the right to withdraw that Breed Section. 8. Only officials appointed by the Society and exhibitors currently showing in class shall be
permitted to enter the Show Ring. 9. Prize Money will be awarded according to the following scale of forward entries; 1, 2 or
3 entries, 1, 2 or 3 prizes, respectively. Rosettes to 5th place. N.B. Some variations. Prize Money may be withheld, or having been awarded may be reclaimed, if an exhibit is found subsequently not to be as represented.
10. In awarding Interbreed Championships, only the Champion in each breed shall be initially paraded: when the judge has decided the Interbreed Champion, he shall then call for the second prize winner in the Champion's class so that it may be considered with the other Champions for Reserve Interbreed Champion. Not applicable to Interbreed Cattle Pairs Championship.
11. Trophy winners are responsible for having awards engraved, the Society can not undertake to keep the cups up to date.
12. All protests must be made in writing stating the grounds of objection and must be lodged with the Secretary within one hour from the time the prize was awarded, together with a deposit of £10 which will then be forfeit to the funds of the Society unless the protest is upheld.
13. All disputes shall be settled by committee which the Society has appointed or by any referee whom that committee may appoint and such decision shall be final.
14. All animals entered for special prizes or cups must be in their appropriate class. 15. Please ensure that you register your entry by the closing date. 16. Owners are to provide their own straw

CATTLE
17. No cattle to be shown in any more than one section, with the exception of Young Handlers.
18. Cows must not appear in the ring in an over-stocked condition. 19. Should any contrivance or device of any description be found on or proved to have
been used on a cow or heifer at any time during the show either for preventing or influencing abnormally the flow of milk, blistering, bandaging, and/or boarding of udders, the sucking of teats or any other purposes the Society at their absolute discretion shall have the power to disqualify the cow or heifer so concerned from any award or trophy at the show.
20. All bulls to be shown by two competent handlers. 21. All prize winners are expected to participate in the Grand Parade.
SHEEP
22. Sheep Scab - Exhibitors must comply with SAC regulations in force at the time. 23. Maedi Visna - Entries from non-scheme flocks will be accepted, except where stated
relevant certificates must be brought with any Accredited entry. Separate pen areas allocated.
24. Docking - Current legislation requires that lambs must have sufficient tail retained to cover the vulva of female sheep and the anus of male sheep.
25. No sheep to be shown in more than one section, with the exception of Young Handlers. 26. Sheep will be inspected in the lines by the Show's Veterinary Officers. 27. All females of the Dorset Horn; Polled Dorset or Finnish Landrace must be
accompanied by a declaration that the animals are non-pregnant (empty) or have not lambed in the previous 30 days.
28. All Champions and Reserve Champions are expected to participate in the Grand Parade.

RULES OF QUALIFICATION
HEAVY HORSE CHAMPION IN HAND
HEAVY HORSE CHAMPION IN SHOW HARNESS.
1. Qualifiers must be from RECOGNISED HEAVY HORSE BREEDS, of any age Stallion, Colts, Geldings, Fillies and Mares.
2. (a) The in-hand qualifier must be the Show Champion of the day, if already qualified at a previous Qualifier then if necessary, the Qualifier position can go down to 4th position. If the top 4 horses have already qualified the NO QUALIFIER CAN BE NOMINATED. (b) The Show Harness and Decorated Harness Qualifier must be the highest placed on the day down to 4th place if necessary. A SET OF HARNESS CAN ONLY BE USED UPON ONE QUALIFYING HORSE.
3. Should a Qualifying horse refuse A FIRST QUALIFICATION this will exclude that Horse from qualifying in the same Championship at any further Qualifying Show that Year.
4. If the Qualifier subsequently is unable to attend the Championships on the above date at the Turnpike Showground between Shaftesbury and Gillingham in North Dorset, then the Show Secretary must be notified by the 14th of September. That position can then be passed to the next eligible Horse.
5. Each Horse that Qualifies will receive a Qualifier Rosette. Each CHAMPION will receive £250 .00 plus a Sash and Rosette.
Each RESERVE CHAMPION £150.00 plus a Sash and Rosette.
The REMAINING FINALIST (ATTENDING THE CHAMPIONSHIP) will receive a Rosette and £25.00.

Horses Qualifying for the Championships and others from the same stables may enter and take part in the Wessex Heavy Horse Society Annual Show on the same day as it is part of the same event. Show Classes include Mare 3 year and over, Geldings 3 year and over, Yearling, 2-year old's, colts and filly foals, Harness, Ladies Carts, Agricultural and Trade Turnout. Overnight and Show day Stabling available.
WEST OF ENGLAND HEAVY HORSE IN-HAND
AND HARNESS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Championships are designed to select and promote the very best heavy horses in the South and South West of England. The Qualifier Shows will come from Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, and Hampshire send their Supreme In- Hand and Show Harness Champions to the West of England Championships that take place at the Wessex Heavy Horse Show and Country Fair to be held on Sunday 26th September 2021 at the Gillingham & Shaftesbury Showground in North Dorset.
There will be over 70 Horses in competition on that day as well as many other attractions.

HEAVY HORSE RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. The committee disclaims all responsibility for any accident to or loss by any person or animal at the show. No claim will be entertained for anything that may happen to exhibitors, their Employees or those who accompany them, their property, exhibits or goods.
2. It is a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall indemnify the Society and/or any official or guest of the Society against any claim arising from any accident and/or occurrence in which the exhibitor or their exhibit are involved.
3. All horses must be the bonafide property of the exhibitor for one month prior to the closing date for entries. They will also have adequate fully paid insurance cover in place, flu and tetanus jabs up to date, and passports available for checking.
4. The Society will adhere as closely as possible to the published schedule and programme but reserve the right in their absolute discretion to pull forward or alter any class without notice if found expedient to do so and the right to refuse any entry and to cancel any class if less than three entries or otherwise without necessarily giving a reason. No Horse under the age of 4 to be driven in class 228.
5. Only officials appointed by the Society and exhibitors currently showing in a class will be permitted to enter the Show Ring.
6. Prize Money will be awarded according to the following scale of forward entries: - 1, 2 or 3 entries 1, 2 or 3 prizes respectively, rosettes to 5th place Prize Money may be withheld, or having been awarded may be reclaimed if an exhibit is found subsequently not to be as represented.
7. It should be noted that cup winners are responsible for having trophies engraved and if this is not done by them the Society cannot undertake to keep the cups up to date.
8. All protests must be made in writing stating the grounds of objection and must be lodged with the Secretary within one hour from the time the prize was awarded, together with a deposit of £10 which will then be forfeit to the funds of the Society unless the protest is upheld.
9. All disputes shall be settled by committee which the society has appointed or by any referee whom that committee may appoint and such decision shall be final.
10. All animals entered for special prizes or cups must be entered in their appropriate class.
11. ** Please ensure that you register your entry by the closing date. **
12. The Committee reserve the right to refuse an entry.

Three tickets for four or five entries
Four tickets for six or more entries
Additional tickets may be ordered at the concessionary rate.
