Black women from the community of allages and occupations gathered at the VictoryOver Violence Park recently in a show of unityand to bring awareness to the oppressive treat-ment of Black women and how they must em-power themselves to overcome the manydifficult challenges confronting them. Thepark, located at 2615 N. Dr. Martin Luther KingDrive, was the launching point for a BlackWomen’s Empowerment March. The march wasorganized by Uplifting Black Liberation andCommunity (UBLAC) and was done in coordi-nation with Washington, D.C.’s National Marchfor Racial Justice to highlight the intersection-ality of Milwaukee’s racial past and emphasizethe invisible struggles of the city’s Black fe-males and segments of the LGBTQ community.Participating in the march were a number ofBlack women lawmakers: Ald. OPEN LETTER TO OUR READERSMilwaukee Community Journal is an actual brick and mortar building, not just an online en-tity. I was downstairs reviewing our equipment in the storage office and it's like visiting amuseum. Old relics, equipment, computers, software and past editions illuminate 40 yearsjournaling the history of change. Since our origin in 1976, we've moved with our audience. Today our readers are predomi-

nantly millennials, 18-40 years of age, shakers and movers, the buyers! They are buyinghomes, cars, raising families. They are eating “fresh,” active in politics, exercising and par-tying.Our readers find us in print, with our twice-weekly editions in tenured retail outlets,

churches and selective distribution spots. But they also read us online at milwaukeecom-munityjournal.com We’re in this to win this! We're dynamic....crisp clear....interactive...and tobe honest - exploding with information that you want to read! We're perfect for new and established advertisers! We want more local interaction andcommunity written articles. We want to offer more millennial access to a proven communitysource. This is who we are. But one thing is still deep on our hearts, and that is you’ve gotto join our team. You're the community part of the Milwaukee Community Journal.
