ADMISSION GUIDELINES-2016AICET is the common entrance test for various Undergraduates & Graduate Programmes of Creative streams i.e. Graphic Design, Fashion Technology and Media & Mass communication. Based on the choice, all eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination at the Examination Centre opted by them. The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted. Entry to the Examination Centre will be allowed with admit cards only.

WLCI Creative School Entrance Test /All India Combined Entrance Test
(AICET) is an entrance exam for Fashion, Advertising & Graphic Design and
Media & Mass Communication programmes in India. This test is administered
to judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and
design ability of the candidates applying for the Fashion, Advertising &
Graphic Design programmes. For students applying for Media & Mass
Communication programme, verbal and written communication skills will be
assessed.
The AICET comprises of 3 Phases: Phase 1 General Aptitude Test (GAT), Phase
2 Creative Aptitude Tests (CAT), Phase 3 Personal Interview and Portfolio
Presentation.
Phase 1: General Ability Test (GAT): General ability test measures general
intelligence of the candidates. This test measures his/her analytical and
deductive skills. It focuses on testing the capacity for learning in general
regardless of any specific skill in a certain subject or topic. This 60 minutes test
is for 100 marks, divided in four parts i.e. Quantitative Ability, Communication
Ability, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.
Quantitative Ability: The quantitative aptitude test measures the numerical
ability and accuracy in mathematical calculations. The questions range from
purely numeric calculations to problems of arithmetic reasoning, graph and
table reading, percentage analysis, categorization and quantitative analysis.
Communication Ability and English Comprehension: The purpose of Commu-
nication ability Test is to assess the individual’s ability to comprehend and
communicate in writing. These are focused on the applicant’s knowledge in
areas such as spelling, grammar, sentence structure and the general ability to
use language proficiently. It also includes questions on synonyms, antonyms,
words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, one word substitutes,
idioms and phrases, correct spellings, comprehend a situation from a given
passage etc.
Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: Analytical Ability Test evaluates
candidates on reasoning that helps in analyzing and synthesizing information,
applying broad analysis to arrive at conclusions, understanding complex
relationships among data and facts, while handling a problem or a situation.
This tests the ability to think logically and analytically, and also to extract
meaning from complex information.
General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This test evaluates fundamental
knowledge of different subjects of general information and the current events of
National & International importance. This section will be divided in two parts
consisting of 20 questions of General knowledge and 15 questions based on
current events.
Phase 2 Creative Aptitude Tests (CAT): This 90 minutes test is for 100 marks
and the questions are both visual and textual in type. The test is conducted to
assess candidate’s understanding of current events, writting skills, Observation
& Perception and Environmental Awareness.
Current Affairs Awareness: This sub-test is designed to test student’s awareness
of Current Affairs and practical understanding of day to day issues. It consists
of questions based on general awareness to assess the candidate’s knowledge of
current events and analytical skills required to uncover the truth.
Writing and thinking Ability: This sub-test is aimed at the candidate’s ability to
identify a given topic and showcase his/her writing ability. Candidate should be
able to use the information and put the view point in a holistic perspective. The
questions are designed to evaluate the creative writing ability of the candidate.
Visual Sense, Observation & Perception: This sub-test is designed to analyze
the candidate’s observation skills, and perception of a problem. The questions
are designed to evaluate the students’ imagination to perceive and look at things
in different ways. It is important to use creative and lateral thinking.
Environmental Awareness: This sub-test is designed to test the candidate’s
sensitivity to identify /overview local and global problem and apply creative
thinking to solve the problem. Practice of reading daily news and progressive
issues will be useful.
Phase 3: Personal Interview & Portfolio Review are equally important to clear.
This is a 20 – 30 minutes interaction with a panel of people from different fields
such as design, communication, psychology, teaching etc. Candidates will be
evaluated on the various parameters i.e. Portfolio, Career orientation, Aptness
for the course, Overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular
activities, Communication, General awareness, aptitude, temperament, creative
and lateral thinking.
Personal Interview: The interview is conducted by a panel of assessors from
different fields such as design, Fashion and Media. They will ask you personal
questions and test your aptitude and attitude towards design and your environ-
ment. Usually, questions are free flowing and candidates may get asked
questions on your career plan, goals, personal achievements etc. The candidates

are advised to be spontaneous (Take time if you have to, and be honest with
your answers).
Portfolio Review: It is an important aspect of the interview process. The
candidates should prepare and present their best pieces of art and design work.
The candidate must carry something to show (like a model or drawings or
anything creative); questions / discussions will arise from these i.e. what
inspired you to make this? , What’s the concept? , What medium did you use? ,
How did you learn to make this, what did it cost? etc. Most of all, remember it’s
a discussion process more than just questions and answers session. Don’t forget
to be honest and comfortable and make sure you enjoy yourself.

PRINT MEDIA - NEWS REPORTER: The prime role of a News reporter for
print media (Newspaper, Tabloid, Magazine) includes the collection of News
from different locations. The reporter gets the information via Telephonic calls
from the informer. He goes to the location, inquiring about the incident he takes
notes and clicks photographs. He then drafts the information in the form of
News and sends it for publishing.
PHOTOJOURNALIST: A Photojournalist is a skilled photographer who uses
the camera to report a story. Photojournalists are employed in Newspapers,
Magazines, Tabloids, Event Management and PR companies
COPY EDITOR: Copy editors are responsible for the clarity and accuracy of
content that is published. They check copy from journalists, authors and writers
to ensure that it is factually accurate and convey its meaning clearly. If they
have queries on the copy, editors check references or discuss the issues with
contributors. Copy editors also check grammar, spelling and punctuation, using
style guides, such as the Associated Press Stylebook, or their own in-house style
rules as reference.
NEWS EDITORS: News Editors responsible for the news output of newspa-
pers, radio and television have a dual role. To cover event news stories, they
assign staff journalists or freelance writers. They review the stories and edit
them for factual accuracy.
COLUMNIST: A newspaper appoints specialists for writing regular Newspaper/
Magazine columns. Columnists are assigned specific columns based on a genre
of writing that may have a range of topics. They have to keep contributing to
the column on a regular basis. They have primary task of researching on topics
given to them for the columns based on requirements - History, Science,
Geography General Awareness etc. These are dedicated columns where the
Columnists present researched information based on the guidelines provided by
the Editorial department for newspapers, magazines, websites and other
mediums.
PAGE MAKER AND DESIGNER: The page designer works on certain
software like illustrator/ quark express and designs the pages of Newspaper /
magazine according to editorial and graphical guidelines for the publishing
house.
RADIO ANNOUNCERS: The work of a Radio Announcer varies from reading
news to hosting Radio Programmes and Interview chat shows. The key skills
required for a Radio Announcing job are - a good command over language,
clear diction and pronunciation.
RADIO PROGRAM PRODUCERS: Producers work with Radio Jockeys and
program hosts to put a show on the air that brings all expectations to life. They
work on the board, generate show ideas, identify program guests, develop
concepts for on-air stunts and gimmicks, which are tuned into current events
and keep the talent abreast of everything critical to the success of their show.
RADIO BOARD OPERATOR: The board operator “runs the control board,”
regulating the timing of programs and making sure logged commercials,
promotions, sweepers and any other programming elements essential to
operations air as scheduled. They take transmitter readings and ready the next
day’s logs.
RADIO PROMO PRODUCER: The radio Promo producer has the role of
managing the promotional campaigns/ adverts for the Station. They are
responsible for on- air management of the Advertisements and the production.-
SOUND RECORDIST: The role of a Sound Recordist is essentially to make
sure there is sound being broadcasted for the radio show or for live radio. He
should understand exactly how to mix music, edit tracks, fade in and fade out
the DJ and the music, among other things.
BROADCAST NEWS REPORTER: The broadcast News reporting is one of
the most challenging yet fascinating jobs. The key skills required for the
Profession are excellent communication skills, Good writing skills and
understanding of general affairs and a passion to face the Camera. The reporter
collects the News stories from different locations and shoots the story visuals
and interviews.

CAMERAPERSON: A Cameraperson for Electronic News Gathering has to
shoot the news stories from the exact point of occurrence and relay it across. He
has to work in coordination with the News reporter and telecast the News story
as soon as possible.
NEWS PRODUCER: A News Producer manages assignment desk, news
managers, reporters and other members and deliver various stories through
regular broadcast. Since the News Channels operate for 24hours a day, there are
2 news producers in a single News slot.
VIDEO TAPE EDITORS: Video editors edit the footage shot on tape to make a
short crisp and meaningful story either News or non news. Video Editing
involves learning and mastering the editing software’s like Avid and Final cut Pro.
NEWS SCRIPT WRITERS: The News script writers are assigned the stories
that are taken from the NEW WIRE agencies and not shot directly by the News
reporters. The job requires a strong command over the written language and an
excellent team spirit.
NEWS ANCHOR: A News Anchor is a person who presents the News on
Camera. He/she is the face of the News Channel. The key skills required for the
post are excellent communication skills, general awareness, presentable
personality traits and a good pronunciation and diction.
EVENT MANAGER: An Event Manager is a person who organizes and
manages public events. These events range from conferences, seminars, social
gatherings, Music Shows etc. There is a large team associated with the Manager
that works under his instructions.
PUBLIC RELATIONS: A Public Relations officer is a person who manages the
pubic corporate affairs of a company or brand. The key skills required for the
purpose are excellent communication and interpersonal skills. It may include
the role of branding and brand building for a company.
PROMO PRODUCER: A promo producer is a person who makes promotional
films for a News Channel, Programme or Cinema Film. Key Editing skills are
required for the purpose. The person should have excellent marketing skills as well.
