This past Sunday we looked at the first part of a two part ser-mon series on
suffering. Suffering is one of the most diffi-cult biblical themes to study because there are so many opinions regarding suffering and its origin. Through our study of 1 Pe-ter we gained insight into suffering and sufferings source. This week we will try through 1 Peter to give some concrete ideas about the solution to suffering. In the midst of suffering, one of the most difficult challenges is the challenge of trust. We ask, “What good is coming out of this pain?” The answer, according to The-odore Adams long time pastor of First Baptist Richmond, is found looking at life with an eternal perspective. He said: Life may baffle and confuse you. In bewil-derment you may ask: “Why in the world do some of these things happen? Why do
the good so often suffer and the evil seem to prosper?” But if you see life in terms of eternity, you realize that the crisis of the moment is only a very small part of life as God sees it . . . God will one day balance the scales of life. If you trust God for all eternity, those things which now are unrequited will one day be cared for. Sin will be punished. Virtue will be rewarded. With kingdom hope, we must in faith believe that “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God.” Peter gives us a very similar perspective when he encourages the early believers who were scattered throughout Asia Mi-nor to look forward to the glory of eternal reward in the presence of God. I hope you will come as we continue to learn about suffering and how to deal with it on a daily basis looking for strength from the hope that is within us.
~ Pastor Tim

HOST FAMILIES NEEDED IN JULY
Share your heart and home this summer! Host a student from Spain or France (ages 13-17) in your home for 3-4 weeks. Learn about their culture while he or she learns about living in an American family just being a part of what you regularly do. We have a variety of programs to suit your family’s work or non-working schedule. Families receive stipends to help out with expenses. We can help work out transportation or vacation concerns. This will be a treasured memory for your family! Contact Debbie Hardy 909-3190 or [email protected]
