Shopping Composition

Product coverage*In-car consumer electronics (aftermarket); In-home consumer electronics; Portable consumer electronics

Consumer electronics sales grew for the fifth consecutive year in 2006.

Department stores accounted for the largest share of consumer electronics distribution throughout the review period, but managed to increase their lead through the development of consumer credit facilities that other distribution channels were unable to match.

It is likely to see continued new product development and further growth for digital and portable products.

Verbatim Comments

Carmina from Santiago, Chile says, “Chile is a much better place than Venezuela right now. I'd say it's the best country in South America to live in.” When asked about where she likes better, Santiago, Chile or her home town of Caracas, Venuzuela

“There’s quite a few small electronic stores that really suck and are quite expensive,” says Jered, an Professional Spanish to English Translator living in Vina Del Mar, Chile, “too bad there’s nothing like a Best Buy here.” Jered grew up in Independence, Oregon.

Page 20: WOLF_-_Chile1

The Out Come

Through looking at literary sources and by talking to natives we can see that the “Big Box” department store concept is flourishing much better than the “mom and pop” type of stores.

The people of Chile have a need for affordable electronics and want a wide selection

From this research we can see it would be beneficial to further research in building a Best Buy in Chile, especially the capital city of Santiago
