Mr. McNally’s topic will be “The Peace Process in Northern Ireland”. Mr. McNally is a successful lecturer and a consultant in all areas of Irish Heritage. He has taught Irish History at Marist and Dominican Colleges. Mr. McNally continues to teach semesters at several area colleges. WOIHJS Christmas Party: Thank you to Marianne Slowey for handling the reservations for our wonderful Christmas party. Thanks also go to Santa (Kate Mulvey) and her elves who assisted with the gift distribution. We all enjoyed a delicious dinner and dessert provided by Susan Doolan and lively entertainment by Mike Byrne. Thank you to Mary Agnes Knox and Peggy Carroll who organized our trip to “Sight and Sound” The Miracle of Christmas was a very moving show and the buffet lunch was great. Everyone enjoyed the day. Thank you to all of our members for their generosity at the holidays. Your very charitable donations of $550.00 to the Food Bank and the gifts for the Annual Toy Drive brought tremendous pleasure to many needy members of our communities during the holiday season. Belmar& Lake Como 2011 St Patrick’s Day Parade 3/6/11 Grand Marshal for this year’s parade will be Bob Jenkins and the Deputy Grand Marshal will be our member and former board member, Patricia Feehery (daughter of member Anne Moore). Congratulations on receiving this well-deserved honor! St. Patrick’s Day Post Parade Party 3/6/11: Will be held at Doolan’s from 4-8PM. Tickets are $35.00 per person. Buffet, beer, wine & soda will be served. Entertainment will be provided by the Ed Kennedy band. Please contact Chairperson Kerri Arrington for reservations @ 732-722-8326. Checks can be mailed directly to Kerri at 643 Summit Place, Brielle, NJ, 08730 and made payable to WOIHJS. Notice of March Meeting Date Change: Our March meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at Doolan’s. This is our annual St. Patrick’s Day party and you won’t want to miss out on the fun, food and dancing. Peggie O’Brien, programs chair, has arranged for some wonderful entertainment to enhance our celebration. Scholarship Applications Scholarship applications are still available from Kerri Arrington. April 1 is the deadline for submission of the applications. Winners will be announced at our meeting on May 11 th , 2011 Please encourage your high school seniors who are going to further their education to enter their essays. The essay topic is “What My Irish Heritage Means to Me”. Our scholarships are available to children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews of members in good standing for at least one year. Judging is impartial and confidentially adjudicated by professionals who review the essays anonymously. Please be mindful that the essays are strictly judged on content. Also, we will be introducing this year The Joan Faux Memorial Nursing Scholarship Award. Applicants must be enrolled in a Nursing Program and must have successfully completed one year of the program. This scholarship award is open to all members and their family members. Completed applications need to be mailed to Kerri Arrington, 643 Summit Place, Brielle, NJ 08730. Spotlight On: Christine Mulvaney - Congratulations go to Chrissy on receiving the Annual WOIHJS member Appreciation award which was announced at the Christmas Party. Thank you Chris for all your years of service to our wonderful club. Capes: Parade season is just around the corner, and if anyone is interested in purchasing a cape, please see Peggy Carroll. Cost is only $20.00. Desserts: Remember, if you signed up at our November meeting, please bring desserts for our January 12 th meeting. Friday, March 4, 2010: Belmar Parade fundraiser – An American Wake – Riverview Pavilion, Belmar. 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Music by the Bantry Boys. Tickets $50 (in advance only) includes hot & cold hors d’oeuvres, desserts, 2 hour open bar. Tickets available at the Irish Centre, Spring Lake. Saturday, March 5, 2011: Parade Investiture Mass, St Rose Church, Belmar at 10AM. Investiture Luncheon will be held at Mike Doolan’s, Rt 71 Spring Lake Heights immediately following celebration of the liturgy. Tickets are $30.00.
