PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
From the President
Our South African Dinner and Wine Pairing event
was a most enjoyable evening, raising significant
monies for our Grace Capen Academic Awards.
The food was delicious and wonderfully paired
with fine wines. There was an impressive selection
of raffle items and great prizes for the sweepstakes
drawings, thanks to our newly-formed Basket
Committee, Marion Schultz and Sharon
Sangiacomo. Best of all, it was an opportunity to
socialize with friends.
Plans are already in place for our next events – the
Chinese Banquet on March 18th and the Fashion
Show and Election Luncheon on April 28th.
Reservation forms are in this newsletter.
Special thanks to Maryann (Po) Jumper for
facilitating the design and purchase of our new
name badges. Now we just have to remember to
wear them!
Also, we commend Linda Eaton for filling the slate
of officers for next year. Thank you to those that
stepped up to serve on the Board.
Welcome all new members who joined UBWC
since our last newsletter. We look forward to seeing
you at our upcoming events.
We currently have 440+ membership. We need and
rely on your active participation at our fund-raising
events to continue to achieve our goals. Remember,
UB students benefit from all of our events.

FASHION SHOW & ELECTION LUNCHEON
Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Banchetti by Rizzo’s
Plan to join us for a fabulous Fashion Show and Luncheon, during which we will elect our upcoming Executive
Board Slate. The Fashion Show & Election Luncheon is another of our important fund raising events. In order for
this to be successful, we need help in collecting donations for our basket auction.
PLEASE HELP! We welcome gift certificates from restaurants or for services, tickets, artwork, bottles of wine,
and food items. Most preferred are themed baskets already made up. This raffle is not as extensive as our last event.
We’re looking for same quality, less quantity. Activity Groups, please consider making a donation on behalf of
your group.
All donations are tax deductible. Please tell donors they will receive a receipt for tax purposes. A Donation
Request Letter is included in this Newsletter. You may make copies or request more. Contact our Basket
Committee Chairs if you have questions, concerns or need a donation pickup.
Sharon Sangiacomo 839-4247 or Marion Schultz 839-5626 WE NEED AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT! Chairpersons: Betty Schaertel and Debra Berger

Happy New Year, UBWC members,
Your Board is overwhelmed with the positive response to our new membership name badges. Out of 425 already
ordered, 340+ have been distributed at our events or by members.
Badges have just been ordered for recently received memberships.
If you have not received your badge, please contact me at 235-8617, so that we can make arrangements for
delivery. If you are out of town, please contact when you return to the area.
Ethel Enserro, membership chairperson
Holiday Luncheon
Thank you to all who attended our Holiday Luncheon. Because of your support we raised $2003.00. Thank you also
to the Craft Activity Group who sold Christmas Angels and raffled off two ceramic Christmas Trees, made by
Diane Kazmierczak, and thus donated $155, their entire profit! We were also proud to include Fran Peterson who
sold handmade Greeting cards and donated her entire profit to Cystic Fibrosis and SewREDI Buffalo, a Refugee
Economic Development Initiative that sells their handmade bags. As part of the UB Women's Club commitment to
our community these two groups were not asked to donate any of their profits.
In addition to these profits, our Poinsettia Sale also will add to the Awards Fund so thanks to Beth Hornung and
Ellie Grieco for all their work coordinating this sale and to those of you who bought plants. The word is they were
beautiful!
BASKET COMMITTEE
Our newly-formed Basket Committee did a stellar job on providing an extraordinary amount of baskets and other
items for the raffle held as part of the South African Dinner and Wine Pairing event. The Basket Committee is
comprised of Marion Schultz, Sharon Sangiacomo, and Susan Busch. Sharon literally walked the streets of
Williamsville entering businesses to solicit donations. Marion has an artistic ability to put together beautiful eye-
catching baskets. Susan made up all the tags using South African patterns and colors. Many of our UBWC members
made generous contributions. All of this resulted in a Basket Raffle that generated significant monies for our Grace
Capen Awards Fund. For all this, we truly thank you for your very successful efforts as our Basket Committee. A
list of all donors is in this newsletter. We thank all individuals who donated and we encourage you to patronize the
businesses that donated.
