WOMEN’S IMAGING IN WINE COUNTRYSEP 30 – OCT 5, 2012 / SONOMA, CALIFORNIA

The fi eld of women’s imaging is continually challenging the radiologist to keep up with the evolving rules, roles and regulations imposed in imaging of the breast, gynecologic organs and pregnancy. This course is designed to reinforce the basic foundations of conventional imaging, strengthen the concepts of advanced applications, and anticipate what is coming on the horizon. Diagnostic pearls, tips and tricks for successful image-guided biopsies, and practical applications with a focus on practice management will be emphasized. A faculty panel discussion will offer attendees the oppurtunity to address current breast imaging protocols and clinical practice concerns. In addition, interesting and challenging breast and obstetrical cases will be presented as unknowns, allowing participants to test and enhance their diagnostic skills.

Earn SAM Credit an opportunity for completion of a Self-Assessment Module will be offered. “Diagnosis of Calcifi cations and Stereotactic Biopsy” has been approved by the American Board of Radiology (reference # UCSS 100212-1354) for 1 SAM credit and for meeting the criteria for self-assessment toward the purpose of fulfi lling requirements in the ABR Maintenance of Certifi cation Program. SAM credits are required for radiologists certifi ed since 2002.

At the completion of this course, the attendee should be able to:1. Employ the latest revisions of BI-RADS for mammography, breast ultrasound and

breast MRI in their daily clinical practice;2. Increase their diagnostic level of confi dence in evaluating solid and cystic masses in

the breast with ultrasound;3. Understand the roles of ultrasound and MR in extent of disease evaluation

including assessment of lymph node basins and second-look US following MRI;4. Appreciate the role of mammography in high-risk males and transgender patients

based on current hormone regimens and suggested guidelines;5. Understand the role of US, CT and MR in the evaluation of adnexal masses with an

emphasis on current SRU recommendations;6. Describe the role of ultrasound in complications of early pregnancy and twin

gestations with an emphasis on management.

The Sonoma Valley is one of the premier wine producing areas in the world. It is centrally located along the California coast, just south of Russian River and west of Napa, making it easy to visit all of the sites, attractions and vineyards just north of the San Francisco Bay area.

The roots of downtown Sonoma are show-cased in the historic buildings of the Sonoma State Historic Park, located just off the Plaza Square. Several original early 1800’s buildings are onsite, including the Mission San Francisco Solano, the Mission Barracks, and the General Vallejo Home. Highlights of downtown include the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, a glass-blowing studio, a quilt shop and a silver company. Artisan shops offer locally grown foods including olive oils, jams, tapenades and mustards. There is a Tuesday evening and a Friday morning farmers market, and the Sonoma Enoteca offers wine tastings from ten Sonoma vineyards.

Traveling north from Sonoma, the towns of Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Healdsburg and Calistoga are home to several of the world’s leading vintners, and offer tours and tasting rooms. Along the way are many fi ne, upscale restaurants, which incorporate fresh, locally-grown organic produce in their menus. There is also a wonderful mix of crafts shops, destination spas, farmers markets, shopping, golf and other recreational activities.

The Pacifi c coastline, giant redwood trees and several state parks make for memorable scenic day trips. Favored destinations include the Jack London State Historic Park (only eight miles from downtown Sonoma), and coastal highlights such as Point Reyes, Tomales and Bodega Bays.

The quality and diversity of activities make the Sonoma wine region a preferred destination for the discriminating traveler.
