Vol 3. No 16 November 29, 2016

The Rotary Club of Jackson donated a brand new 7X12 hydraulic dump trailer to assist the Wood Angels in their

flight to help keep Amador County seniors, vets, disabled and those having a hard time in firewood for the winter

seasons. This donation will not only save the backs of many, but it allows them more time to get to more people

who need their help. Most of the Wood Angels vol-

unteers are up in age and this donation will help

continue our mission in helping those in need.

Wood Angels donors are the most important part-

ners in helping us fulfill our mission. Jackson Rota-

ry’s willingness to donate this incredible gift was well

received by the group. This act of community com-

mitment and generosity ensures that the Wood An-

gels remains a strong and effective grassroots organ-

ization that is committed to their continuing mission

for 2016 and years to come.

This allows them to continue cutting more wood at

private property where owners have donated

downed oak, pine or cedar. They then pick up the wood, sometimes splitting in place, then transport to recipients

or to the yard where they stack wood and cover in preparation for delivery and stock for the next winter. All dona-

tions and contributions go strictly for gasoline, chains for chainsaws, splitter repairs, etc., and, now, they add the

pleasure of keeping the trailer in tip-top shape. No monies go to administrative costs and all volunteers are not paid

anything for their time and effort.

WOOD ANGELS HYDRAULIC TRAILER

Sgt Ryan Gillaspie of the Wood Angels tells us that due to the trailer being seen around the communi-

ty, fifteen new volunteers have stepped up to help the group. The Wood Angels has been designated as a

DSW (Disaster Service Workers) organization. This allows for downed trees on county property to be re-

moved by the group and that they will be able to get assistance from the CYA Camp in Pine Grove.

Could you ever imagine Rotary would grow to what it has become?

Get to know him as a person

What, if anything, disturbs you about today’s rotary?

Thank him for starting rotary

Did you realize the great works you would be starting when you started this so

many years ago?

Did you know what you were starting?

Looking back, would you change the non-religious, non-political stance?

What would you expect of us so many years later?

What is the best project your rotary (club) put on?

At the time you started the first “Rotary” club, did you ever think it would become a world wide organization?

What I would like to ask Paul Harris...

Each week as we lead up to my presidency, I will be asking questions to better understand

our club and it’s needs. If you have a generic question that you think would be interesting,

please let me know and we will add it to the list. Answers will be kept anonymous and will

be shared with the membership in the next newsletter. This week’s question was:

MEMBERSHIP CORNER: QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Where am I? Everywhere you look, you will see

the rotary logo throughout our community. This week’s

mystery logo can be found where lots of people dine in

Jackson. Do you know where it is?

Happy Holidays Rotarians!

Here we are, the week after Thanksgiving. The holidays

come up fast and disappear into the rearview just as

quickly. Fast approaching us is the multi-club Christmas

party on December 9th and accordingly we will be dark

on December 6th.

On December 10th we have

the “Parade of Lights” in Sut-

ter Creek. December 13th is a

board meeting and the 20th is

our club Christmas party. As

usual, please bring a new, un-

wrapped gift to both Christ-

mas parties for the Sherriff’s

toy drive. December 27th we

are again dark. I know that we

all have a lot going during this

holiday time, but please do your best to make it out to

our Rotary meetings.

It is only with your support that our club will continue

to be successful and able to support our communi-

ty. The Wood Angles trailer is just one tangible

example of the good this club can do on just a local

level.

Thank you for your continued support,

Michael

Amador County Eagles (ACE) Cheer Competition has earned a spot in this years cheer competition in Las Vegas

in January 2017. Fourteen girls will be going to this year’s competition. It costs each girl about $750 to go on this

trip. They are looking to the community to assist in their fund raising efforts. Since the trip and the competition

coincide with our 2017 Bowl-A-Thon weekend, the board has decided to donate $1400 toward their fund raising

efforts and will encourage them to try to field a team for the Bowl-A-Thon in their absence. Here are photos of

the girls demonstrating their tal- ents during last week’s board

meeting.

WHERE AM I? Last week’s mystery plaque is

located in downtown Jackson. The answer to the

question is the Jackson Community Children’s

Cemetery.

One of Rotary’s earliest service projects was

installing public toilets in Chicago. More than 100 years later, over 21 million people have access to sani-tation around the world due to Rotary projects.
