Feature/Benefit Snapshot

• Fiberglass exterior is resistant to water, cold,

heat, insects, salt air and ultraviolet rays.

• Powder Coated fiberglass exterior finish

won’t crack, peel, bend, warp, or stick due to

expansion and contraction, and will never

need painting.

• Every order is custom built – at standard lead

times. Perfect for replacement applications,

with dimensions accepted down to 1/16”

increments.

• Seemingly endless design possibilities with

options on exterior color, interior finish,

windows in combinations, decorative glass,

and traditional or contemporary grids.

• Essence Series windows use an engineered

mulling system that more securely connects

multiple units, creating a tight seal and

protecting against air and water infiltration.

• Wet-glazed silicone sealant glazing method

for superior, permanent weather seal.

• Multiple hardware finishes to choose from in

both the window and door line.

• Numerous glass options available – including

tempered, obscures, tints, laminated, etc.



• All operating hardware utilizes top-quality

components and fasteners.

• Fiberglass doors use multi-point locking

hardware to provide enhanced security.

Frame

Exterior: Multiple-hollow pultruded fiberglass

(0.080” thick), which is exceptionally strong and

resistant to thermal conductance.

Interior: Standard is Pine. Optional Douglas Fir

or primed white Pine wood. All wood is treated

with a water-repellent preservative in accordance

with WDMA I.S.4. Wood is kiln-dried to a moisture-

content between 6-12% before assembly.

Frame Depth

Standard frame depth is 5-1/16” overall, with

internal and external facing accessory kerf. Nail fin

kerf for applied vinyl nail fin allows for both 1-3/8”

and 1” nail fin setbacks. Full frame insert frame

depth is 5-1/16” overall, with a stop at 3-1/4” for

wood window replacement applications. Gliding

window for insert has two sill options: 8 degrees

slope and 14 degrees slope. External accessory

grooves are on all frame types.

Frame Thickness

Standard and Insert frame thickness at the head is

1-9/16” and the jambs are 2-3/16”. The standard sill

thickness is 2-15/16”. The insert sill height for the 8

degree application is 2-5/16” thick and for the 14

degree version it is 1-11/16” thick.

Installation: Factory- applied nail fin (standard frame

only). Standard Fin is 1-3/8” wide, optional 2” wide

option. Select setback of 1” or 1-3/8” from frame

exterior. Fin is 100% pre-consumer recycled content.

Sash

Exterior: Single-hollow (0.085” thick) pultruded

fiberglass, which is exceptionally strong and

resistant to thermal conductance. Fiberglass joints

are square cut at stile and rail in both top and

bottom sashes to the exterior, but joined to the

interior at a miter to allow for a tighter and more

consistent joint.

Interior: Standard is Pine. Optional Douglas Fir

or primed white Pine wood. All wood is treated

with a water-repellent preservative in accordance

with WDMA I.S.4. Wood is kiln-dried to a moisture-

content between 6-12% before assembly. Wood

joints are square cut at stile and rail in both

top and bottom sashes. Ask your Milgard sales

representative about wood options for projects

seeking LEED certification.

Sash Depth: Depth of sash is nominal 1-3/4”.

Exterior and Interior Finish

Exterior: Fiberglass profiles are powder coated

and tested for physical properties to AAMA-623-07

standards for Organic Coatings on Fiber-reinforced

Thermoset Profiles.

Colors: Standard exterior colors available: Frost, Fog,

Harmony, and Bark.

Select Colors: Sand, Ivory, Tweed, Pea Pod, Fern,

Cinnamon, Evening Sky, Classic Brown, Espresso,

Black Bean, Bronze and Twilight at no up-charge.

(Slightly longer lead times may apply on Select

Colors.)

Interior: Wood to the interior is treated and bare/

unfinished (Pine and Douglas-fir) or primed white

Pine and should be finished immediately upon

receipt and installation of windows.



Jamb Extension

4-9/16” is standard frame depth. Optional frame

depths are 4-1/16”, 6-1/16” or 6-9/16”. Factory

applied jamb liners are available up to 12” total

jamb depth. Jamb species are Pine, Douglas-fir, or

primed white Pine depending on window interior

selection.

Hardware

Lock and Keeper: Flush-mounted SmartTouch®

Lock system (zinc diecast handle and bezel with zinc

keeper) is standard, with an option for a surface-

mounted open style classic spoon lock (zinc die-

cast).

Colors and finishes available: Standard is white

or clay painted, and options for Oil Rubbed Bronze

(Non-living), Satin Nickel or Brushed Chrome plated

finishes on same hardware. On all window sizes,

only one lock is required.

Tilt Latches: Exclusive and patent pending design

with push-button operation, lock stile tilt latch

that is flush-mounted, painted or plated in color to

match lock hardware selection: Standard is painted

white, clay or oil rubbed bronze (nonliving) and an

optional upgrade for satin nickel or brushed chrome

finishes.

Rollers: Vents have acetyl wheels that are adjustable

and ride on a painted aluminum monorail track. The

acetyl wheels contain stainless steel needle bearing

hubs that create a very smooth, quiet and easy-to-

operate gliding window, no matter what the weight.

Folding Handle: The casement and awning handle

folds in and nests to keep a low profile while not in

use. Colors and finishes available: Standard is white

or clay painted, and options for Oil Rubbed Bronze

(Non-living), Satin Nickel or Brushed Chrome plated

finishes on same hardware.

Finger Pull: The Glider finger pull is a zinc die-cast

optional add-on that assists in the operation of

the vent and is color matched to the lock and tilt

latch button. Standard is white or clay painted,

and options for Oil Rubbed Bronze (non-living),

Satin Nickel or Brushed Chrome plated finishes are

available.

Door Hardware: Swing door hardware is offered in

three different styles to help with coordination and

consistency. Finishes can be mixed or matched for

interior and exterior. Colors and finishes available:

White, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Chrome, Satin

Nickel and Slate Black.

InstallationNail Fin and Drip Caps: Factory-applied. Details

above in “Frame” section. Not intended to replace

proper sealing methods according to AAMA 2400

recommended installation methods.

Mulls: All mulls (Patent Pending) are assembled at

the factory and include fiberglass exterior mullion

cover and internal wood mullion cover. Mull design

detail provides a 1/2” space between joined window

frames. There are currently no field-mull kit options.

Exterior Trim Accessories: An aluminum stucco key

and 2-1/8” installation trim piece for insert frames

are also available.

Z-Bar Accessories: Optional fiberglass Z-bar

accessories for standard frame without nail fin are

factory applied and sealed. They are available in

three widths: 1”, 1-3/4” and 2-1/4”.



Glazing

Glazing Method: Insulated dual glaze, 1” overall,

is standard. Optional insulated triple-glazing is

available with argon-air blend or argon-krypton

blended inert gas (available in limited markets).

Glazing Seal: Silicone glazed.

Glazing Spacer: Foam or stainless steel box.

Glazing Type: SunCoat® Low-E over clear annealed

with argon-air blend gas is standard.

Optional glazing packages: SunCoatMAX® triple

layer Low-E, laminated, obscure, solar tints available.

Obscure glass options include, but are not limited

to: Rain, Reed, Aquatex, Delta Frost, Glue Chip,

P516, Matelux, etc). High elevation and “Wildland

Urban Interface Building Code” glazing options are

available.

Weather-Stripping/Sash Binder

Weather-Strip: All clearances are sealed with

weather-strip that creates a continuous seal around

and between sashes. The head jamb is sealed to

the sash using leaf weather-strip. The checkrails are

sealed using a flexible vinyl bulb gasket. The bottom

rail to sill interface is sealed with a leaf weather-

strip. All weather strip at head, jamb and sill will be

beige. Weather-strip at the fixed meeting rail stile

will be color matched to the binder.

Sash Binder: The sash binder visible to the exterior

will be one of three colors, depending on exterior

paint color: Beige standard with option of white

(Natural Crème), Gray (Frost); Beige with option

of white (Harmony, Fog); Black (Bark); Beige with

option of white (Tweed, Classic Brown, Black Bean,

Twilight, Evening Sky, Cinnamon, Pea Pod and Fern).

Grids/Grilles:

Grids Between the Glass (GBG): 5/8” flat and

1-1/16” contoured aluminum grids in solid or two-

tone white, tan, or brownstone for both dual and

triple glazing option. Triple glazed product has GBG

in the outside air space only.

Simulated Divided Lite (SDL): Factory-applied

with high performance solid acrylic tape, interior

wood bars are available in three widths 3/4”, 1-1/8”

and 2-1/4” and corresponding exterior bars 3/4”,

1-1/8” and 2-1/4” are all color-matched fiberglass

or aluminum profiles. Wood is matched to internal

wood selection (Pine, Douglas Fir, or primed white

Pine). Shadow bars are clear anodized aluminum.

SDL’s are available in a variety of grid patterns

(rectangular, prairie, craftsman, simulated

checkrails, sunburst), and each window is custom

made to order.

Essence Series Frame Accessories - frame trim kits

specifically made for Essence Series wood windows

and doors. These beautiful and durable aluminum

frames are a snap to install, and with no painting

required, trim labor (and expense) is greatly

reduced. Plus, there are no visible fasteners or holes

to putty, giving the windows a clean look.

Essence Frame Accessories are all factory finished

for a perfect color match with the window and are

available in all Essence exterior colors. Colors can

be matched to the window, or a coordinating color

as an accent. They won’t need painting and will not

rot, split, crack or warp.

With all the combinations available, Essence Frame

Accessories will complement virtually any style of

home.

And just like the windows and doors, Essence Frame

A casement window swings outward like a door, hinged on

right or left side.

Casement windows can be used alone or in combination units

with other windows for vent-below, vent-above or side-by-side

configurations.

Casement picture window is the same frame style as the

double hung but without the operable sash for use in

combinations.
