Wooden Wii Controllers

• There is an alternate universe much like our own, but in this universe there is no war and cows produce ice-cold milkshakes. And in this universe, you'll also find the manifested counterparts to these wooden Wii peripheral concepts. Made of wood and featuring well-placed LED flare, the only thing better than the Wiimote and Nunchuk is this realistic Wiiglock

Jupiter Mouse Maus

• This wooden mouse is handmade from Chinese flowing ash in Japan’s rural Gunma prefecture. It is made from the natural wood grain swirls and click button that resembles the largest planet’s famous spot. The cursor moves in direction and velocity according to the tilt of the spherical mouse.

Plywood Headphones

• This David Burel’s headphones was made of nine layers of varnished plywood, each pair is a unit example of form meeting technology.

Touch Wood Prototype Phone• NTT DOCOMO goes green by

announcing a cellphone prototype that was manufactured using surplus wood of trees culled during thinning operations in order to maintain healthy forests. No two handsets are alike, as each of them comes with their personal grain patterns and natural colouring. Neither were colours or paints used in the process for an all natural look. No idea on when such handsets will become commonplace, but at least it is a step in the right direction.

Wooden Camera• Olympus announces the development

of a three dimensional compression moulding process for wooden materials. The new process draws extensively on Olympus expertise in precision metal-forming technologies. The processed wooden material has the feel and grain pattern of natural wood, but is much harder than engineering plastics such as ABS and polycarbonate resins. Strong enough to be used to create the outer casings of electronic products, the material can enhance the aesthetic value and pleasure of ownership that those products provide. A prototype example of a camera case created using this new technology will be exhibited at the photokina 2006, being held in Cologne, Germany.

Wooden Laptop

• The laptop, which is only a prototype, uses cedar wood for the case and also makes use of bio-plastics for parts. Bio-plastics are plastics produced from renewable sources such as vegetable oil rather than petroleum used in traditional plastics.

Wooden Flashsticks

• We absolutely love the natural wooden treatment given to any gadget and Flashsticks (UK) makes some really cool and natural wooden pen drives. Each of these USB Flash drives are made from locally hardwood wood from a renewable source. The wood is collected from the woods of Berkshire in England. This is fallen wood from the previous winter’s storms. Thus no two of these drives are similar.

Wooden iPod• The iPod Mini is an outdated

model, so it’s only fitting that Jozaeh’s MP3 player is encased in the wood of a stately old Australian red cedar tree. Camphor Laurel comprises the click wheel, and brass plates and screws hold everything together. Says the creator: “I was given a new iPod Mini for Christmas and I just couldn’t leave my trusty old mini to sit unused somewhere.” Sounds like it was his first stab at a wooden iPod mod, and we say he did an admirable job. Sadly, it’s only a matter of time before the battery kicks the bucket and this wooden iPod becomes a true antique.
