Dear Woodland Elementary School Families! We have had a great start to the year at Woodland Elementary School! Your children have already grown tremendously in just a short period of time. Each classroom has created a specific culture that allows students to learn, be curious, ask questions, and take risks. It is fun to watch as I can see and hear the learning each minute. I hope you too have had some outstanding conversations when your children come home! During the first weeks of school, we spent a considerable amount of time emphasizing our commu- nity values of Honesty, Responsibility, Kindness, and Respect. At Woodland, we call this the Woodland Way! We hope that this positive culture transcends all areas and that our students de- velop into not just good students, but into good citizens. The Woodland Way is a culture, or a feel that you have when walking into our school. I hope that when you enter Woodland, that you feel this culture of positivity, and also a culture of continuous improvement to meet our students’ needs. At Woodland Elementary, we believe in “noticing something, and doing something.” In other words, as we notice that a child has an academic or social need, we immediately act to give that child what they need to find success. Often times, students may need an additional opportunity to learn something that was delivered in the class. When this is the case, we respond right away, so that the child continues to meet or exceed our expectations. This philosophy is carried out by all teachers at our school, and really is the cornerstone of how we collaborate as teams, departments, or as a school. Connued on Page Two

Dear Woodland Elementary School Families!

We have had a great start to the year at Woodland Elementary School! Your children have already grown tremendously in just a short period of time. This past week we had an outstanding PTO Fun Run! It was amazing to watch our students be-ing active and participating in this school-wide event. Thank you to our strong and supportive PTO for organizing the Fun Run, and for continuing to support our students and school. We are SO fortunate to have the parent and community support at Woodland, as we all work together to make this one of the best schools for our students to attend. I hope your kids had fun, and I would also like to thank all of YOU for supporting our school through this event!

Thank you again for your continued support of our school. I encourage you to ask your children about their reading, math, PE, music, art, the Fun Run, and any of the other amazing experienc-es they have each day. I also invite you to attend a PTO meeting, volunteer, or simply stop by to visit. This is truly a special place and I am so happy to have your children be a part of it. As al-ways, please contact me at any time!

You may or may not be aware that Kimberly Area School District has two clothes closets that are located in two of our schools. One of the clothes closets is at Mapleview Intermediate (920-788-7910) and the other is at Westside Elementary (920-739-3578). If you would like to donate or are in need of some assistance with re-sources, you can contact Mapleview or Westside. In addition to the clothes closets, Woodland is frequently being offered ways to support our families if they should fall upon economic hard-ship. Please reach out to your child’s teacher or school counselor if you are in need of any assistance throughout the year.

FAMILY RESOURCE INFORMATION/OPPORTUNITUES TO DONATE

If your student is going to be absent we ask that you please contact the Main Office at 730-0924 option 1 to let us know that he or she will not be present for class as soon as possible. When leaving a message, please indicate your child’s name, homeroom teacher, and reason for the absence. You are able to leave a message at any time outside of our normal office hours of 7:30 AM-4:00 PM.

Wisconsin’s school compulsory law requires students miss no more than ten (10) days per school year. Once a student has missed ten or more days of school, a doctor’s note is required to excuse the absence. Absences excused by a medical professional generally do not count toward a student’s ten day maximum. If you have questions regarding our attendance policy, please contact Tom Smits.
