HISTORY OF THE WOODWIND INSTRUMENTS

The Flute: Although many variations have been created, the flute originated over 30,000 years ago. The very first one was found in a cave in northern France. It was reportedly made of bone.

The Piccolo: the piccolo trumpet was invented in 1890 by Victor Charles Mahillon, a Belgium instrument maker.

Oboe: The oboe was invented by Michel Philidor and Jacques Hotteterre in France in the 17th century.

Clarinet: The clarinet descended from an older instrument called the chalumeau. Johann Christoph Denner around 1690 added the register key to the chalumeau and is credited as inventing the clarinet by adding this key.
