Work Placement Survey
with Oona Nicholson
Oona developed a questionnaire with which she interviewed
business managers, students on work placement and staff
members around the School. The purpose of the exercise was to
become familiar with workplace options and experiences people
have in the work place.
Oona interviewed Mrs Megan Hart, Mrs Lena Inness and Mr Rick
Burton in the Library; she also sought the views of Mrs Jackie Hall
in the canteen and Mrs Catherine Riley in our front office. From
there she interviewed Ross at Riviera Coffee shop, Cameron from Absolute Tattoo and Tonia who
manages Second Best Friend Fashion Boutique. From there she questioned students Bradyn who is
gaining experience at IGA and Tim at the Gym, So Fun Gymnastics.
By asking about the businesses, the duties performed by each person, if they wear protective clothing or
a uniform, do they enjoy the work and what do they like the best; Oona was able to make informed
choices about which work placement positions she is interested in experiencing for herself.

This term Year 7 Technology Mandatory have been designing and creating. They created a placemat and
bandanna to use in their cooking lessons. They were able to use innovative fabric decoration techniques.
Through the use of ‘Genesis Dyes’’ they were able to create a design on their placemat that created differ-
ent tones using the sun to deepen the colour in areas on their fabric. They used these dyes in a different
dyeing technique for the construction of their bandannas. They used the salting technique which produced a
mottled effect. They then hand embroidered their initials onto it learning traditional embroidery techniques
such as running stitch and French knots….old and new techniques in the one project. They also learnt how
to do a rolled hem using our air threaded overlockers.
They were fortunate enough to be able to enjoy the use of our refurbished kitchens to create Blueberry
Swirls, Raspberry, Vanilla and White Chocolate Spiders and Banana paddle pops. The aprons they made
this year in Technology Mandatory were put to good use!!

AMBULANCE SCHOOL COVER
EXCURSIONS
We have been advised that the Ambulance Service of
NSW has reciprocal health care agreements with all
Australian states except Queensland and South
Australia.
This means that, even though Woolgoolga High has
Ambulance School Cover for students who have an
accident or fall ill whilst at school or at an organised
school activity, they are not covered while on school
excursions to Queensland and South Australia.
Only students whose parent/guardians hold a Com-
monwealth Government Health Care Card or have
private health insurance (including ambulance-only
cover) are possibly covered when on a school excur-
sion to Queensland or South Australia.
It is strongly recommended that parents/
guardians who do have cover with a private health
fund, check their family’s eligibility with regards
to travel to all the states.
Pediculosis (Head lice)
Usual time between infection and illness – eggs of
lice usually hatch in a week and reach sexual ma-
turity in approximately two weeks.
Symptoms and signs – the scalp itches. Lice and
nits (eggs) are found on the scalp. Scratches may
become infected and swelling of the glands of the
neck can occur. Nits look like tiny white specks
stuck to the hair.
How long to keep your child away from school be-
cause of the risk your child may infect other chil-
dren – until appropriate treatment is begun. It is not
necessary to shave the head.
Whether to keep contacts home from school – it is
not necessary to keep those in contact at home.
You should inspect all close contacts regularly for
lice and nits. All other family members living in the
same house should be treated at the same time
when you are treating the affected person.

A huge thank you to the Woolgoolga District Net-
ball Association committee for their never ending
support of our netball teams, coaches and um-
pires. They manned the canteen, supplied eagle-
eyed umpires, provided equipment, first aid and
valuable coaching advice (and cheering).
Most importantly, three cheers to the players:
Rachel Henry, Pavan Singh, Sarah Goodman,
Amy Decent, Sienna Hill, Jaide Topp, Eliza Smith,
Candice Constable-Love, Dayna Moss and Tali-
sha Harboe. You are fantastic representatives of
Woolgoolga High School, displaying good sports-
manship and camaraderie.
On Friday 11th November, Woolgoolga hosted the
Mid North Coast Zone Netball Gala day to play the
first three rounds of the Combined High Schools
knockout draw. This is an excellent way for
schools to gain valuable experience playing each
other; play multiple rounds to avoid long travel
times/distances while lessening time students are
absent from school; catch up with sporting friends
and showcase our fabulous local facilities at the
newly refurbished Woolgoolga Netball Courts.
A strong team of 10 girls from Years 7, 8 and 9
were selected, trained and coached by our senior
netball leaders, Samantha Sadlier and Mackinley
Taylor. Unfortunately, a loss in the first round
against a formidable Grafton High side meant that
Woopi High got knocked out of the draw early in
the day. Under humid conditions, the girls fought
hard, keeping a close game all the way, with
Grafton High only pulling away in the last quarter.
Grafton went on to win all of their games on the
day and will now proceed to Macksville to play
against Wauchope, the Lower North Coast Zone
winners. Woolgoolga High then continued to play
‘friendly’ games against Coffs Harbour and Orara
High Schools to expand their experience and
teamwork skills.
CHS U15 Girls Netball Knockout
Congratulations to all Friday night Coffs Harbour Basketball Association players for an excellent season! Well done to both Woolgoolga High School teams for semi final and final wins! Special mention to Sukhraj Tiwana, voted MVP by the referees in the final! Players representing WHS are: Levi Davison, Kane Crisdale, Conan Brisley, Sukhraj Tiwana, Jaali Wilder-Gillic, Kobey Styles, Ethan Pursch, Joel Garrett, Jack Meale, Mitchell Della, Peter Co-hen, Sam Hodgson and Adam Peutrill.
The players as individuals showed considerable improvement over the course of the season and played exception-ally well in their teams. Special thanks go to Terry Garrett, Bryan Davison and Ken Meale for their expertise and commitment throughout the season with coaching, running the bench and management of the teams.
