WELCOME TO WOOLPOWER, ÖSTERSUND

Östersund is a small town in the Northern part of Sweden, only 400 km from the Artic Circle.This is where our factory is situated and this is where we, already in 1972, developed our unique material Ullfrotté Original which is especially made for the use of thermal undergarments and socks.

The garments are used by people in their daily life, at work as well as for outdoor activities. People who don’t want to worry about if the clothes will stand the test regardless weather conditions.

Today our garments are sold worldwide under the brand name Woolpower.

Woolpower wants to make as small impact as possible on the environment and no harm neither to people nor animals. As a manufacturing company, ethical and environmental thinking are core values for us. Throughout the whole chain, from the birth of the lamb, the production of the wool we use, our manufacturing process and the use of waste material, we aim to follow these values. This results in high quality products that are made to last.

Today we purchase our wool from Patagonia and Uruguay where we have a constant dialogue with our suppliers and guaranteed mulesing free wool.

The name tag of the seamstress featured on all the Woolpower garments is not only a mark of quality; it shows also how proud we all are at Woolpower of our company and our products.

Woolpower AB is a family owned company founded in Östersund, Sweden, in 1969.

A UNIQUE MATERIAL

The unique material, Ullfrotté Original, was developed in collaboration with the Swedish military in the early 70’s. The result was a garment with great insulation properties and unique moisture absorption. A wear resistant garment that actually made you feel warm even when moist. Ullfrotté Original became a material that changed the possibility of manufacturing great outdoor undergarments forever.

Today Woolpower is fully committed to the production of warm and wear resistant wool garments with Ullfrotté Original as its core material. The company has grown a lot over the last couple of years. Approximately 75 % of the sales are exported to 25 countries around the world.

MADE IN SWEDEN

All our products are still manufactured here in Östersund where each garment is sewn by an individual seamstress. The production is followed by a quality control resulting in a sewn in label by the seamstress. The personal label of the seamstress is a Woolpower quality sign that you can find inside all Woolpower garments.

THE MANUFACTURING PROCESSIn order to make high quality garments the process must be carefully calibrated and

precise. When we make our Woolpower garments we use circular knitting machines to produce the sleeves, the legs, the body, and the socks.

We produce our garments this way because it creates good comfort. Each garment part and size is knitted on individual knitting machines of different diameters. The advantages of this technology is that it allows garments, made to be worn directly to the skin, to have a minimal amount of seams for form-fitting and comfort.

The material is washed for stability in 60º C (140 °F) hot water with no detergents. After washing and drying, the material is shaped on metal frames and tenters using heat and steam, to ensure smoothness and the right shape. Cut and finished pieces are then sewn together into a finished garment.

THE PERFECTION OF NATURE

Wool is a unique material provided by nature. It has remarkable characteristics that no science lab has yet been able to replicate synthetically. It’s the perfection of nature. In all Woolpower garments we use Merino wool, a perfect fiber to insulate against both heat and cold. The natural wool fiber works together with your body, when you get wet it keeps you warm and it also transports the moisture away so that you feel warm and dry longer. The temperature regulation is one of the key factors in comfortable underwear.

WOOL KEEPS YOU WARM, WITH AIR

Clothes don´t provide heat, but they do allow you to retain the warmth that your body produces. The secret is in the air, the more air you can trap around the body, the more heat you can retain. Wool garments are perfect to use when you want to stay warm, this is because wool has excellent insulating properties. The crimpy structure of the wool fiber traps large quantities of air. The more crimps the fiber has, the better insulative properties. Merino wool has up to 40 crimps per centimeter, which provides a remarkably high degree of insulation. The crimps of the fibers also mean fewer contact points between the material and the skin, another benefit when it comes to trapping air and staying warm.

WARMS EVEN WHEN MOIST Another great thing about wool is that it is hygroscopic, which means that wool is capable of absorbing

moisture from the atmosphere. This also means that wool constantly work on keeping the moisture level in- and outside of the fiber equal. When humidity is higher inside the wool garment than outside, the wool absorb the moisture and transport it through the material until balance is reached. Since moisture is transported to the outside of the garment, heat insulation increases and you stay dry and warm. Wool can absorb up to 30 % of its dry weight in moisture without feeling damp. When the wool transports the moisture away from the skin it creates a heat called absorption heat. Heat energy is released when water molecules and the fibers molecule groups, which have the opposite polarity, collide. The force of the collision is so intense that heat is created. The process continues until the fiber is saturated with water molecules.

SELF-CLEANINGAnother unique thing about wool garments is that they do not need frequent cleaning in the washing

machine, they clean themselves! Wool is a material that does not easily hold odors because of a creatine in the wool that naturally breaks down bad smelling bacteria. So just air the garments out and they will quickly feel fresh again.

NON ITCHY. The quality of wool is measured in a micron scale, the thickness of the wool fiber in thousands

of a millimeter. Fine quality wool is between 17 and 23 microns; it is at this level that the wool is perceived as soft and non-itchy. The Merino wool used in Ullfrotté Original is 22.5 microns, resulting in a comfortable, non-itchy material. The reason why we have chosen this thickness is because it is thick enough not to break easily while it is still in the range for non-itchiness.

MERINO WOOL NATURE AT ITS BEST

Ullfrotté Original is the foundation of Woolpower, almost every garment that we produce today is made of this material. It consists of a perfect mixture of fine Merino wool, synthetics and air.

SYNTHETICS ADDS STRENGTHMerino wool is a material with excellent properties but its wear resistance is not optimal. In order to

add wear resistance to Ullfrotté Original, wool has been mixed with one third synthetics. This gives the garment the strength that is needed to meet the quality standard of Woolpower.

80% AIRIt is well known that the more air you can trap around the body, the more heat you can retain. The

natural capacity of wool, to capture air, together with our special knitting technique, has allowed us to maximize the amount of air closest to the skin. Up to 80% of the material actually consists of air, which means that the material has an excellent capacity to trap body heat.

THE TERRY LOOPS Ullfrotté Original is specially knitted so that one side of the fabric is flat and the other has smooth

terry loops. It is the large size of the terry loops, in combination with the crimpy wool fibers that make our garments capable of trapping the great amount of air. The terry surface of the material also offers the benefit of regulating body heat and moving moisture away from the skin. It retains body heat even when wet.

MADE TO USEWe make garments that are made to be used, a lot. Ullfrotté Original is knitted on specially designed

machines where everything from the size of the terry loops to the density of the stitch is carefully tested. In addition to the wear resistance and the overall quality of the garment we add comfort. The Woolpower garments are made to be worn close to the body, like extra layers of skin, working with your body to keep you warm and dry. This is why each garment is circular knitted, with a minimum amount of seams that can both chafe and break.

HARD TO IGNITEBecause Ullfrotté Original consists mainly of wool it only catches fire at very high temperature which

makes it hard to ignite. Once wool catches fire, the flame is not fed, but the fibers are charred and the fire dies. This is why Woolpower garments are used not only by outdoor enthusiasts, but also by professionals like firemen, smiths and utility workers.

WASHINGWool is self-cleaning and does not retain odor even after long period of use. This means that you do

not have to clean your Ullfrotté garments that often. When you do want to wash them, all Woolpower garments can be machine washed in hot water at 60 °C (140 °F) and tumble-dried at medium heat. This is a great feature considering that humid conditions promote bacteria growth and certain soil bacteria will not die until the clothes are washed at 60 °C (140 °F).

WOOLPOWER LITE Woolpowers material, Woolpower LITE, is designed to fill the need for a thinner and cooler base layer. The collection now consists of eight garments.

FIVE COLORS AND COLOR COLLECTIONWoolpower garments are available in five base colors - Black, Grey, Dark Navy, Green and Red, although some items are produced in only a selection of them. Woolpower Color Colllection may vary in color and products from year to year.

NEW KIDS COLLECTIONWoolpower KIDS Collection is from this year available in four brand new colors – Pirate Black, Turtle Green, Sea star Rose, and Dolphin Blue.

All Woolpower garments are part of a system Woolpower has developed an entire collection of garments for the whole body, to be combined differently depending on the temperature and form of activity. The material, Ullfrotté Original, is produced in varying thickness for different functions and benefits. The thickness of the material is measured in grams per square meter: 200, 400, 600 and 800 g/m².

The best way to stay warm is to wear efficient layers in materials that work with your body. What you want to achieve with the choice of material is that it should transport moisture away from the skin at the same time as it insulates the heat from your body. In Woolpower garments you get all of this and more. Woolpower garments are comfortable and soft and work together with the body as extra layers of skin. This enlarges the comfort zone and creates a unique thermal balance. To maximize the positive effects of the wool you should always wear wool on wool in layers.

Woolpowers material Woolpower LITE, launched 2011, is designed to fill the need for a thinner and cooler base layer.

The merino wool, 19.5 micron, is combined with 20% polyamide fiber, to create a stronger and more durable garment. Function is still the main focus. There are no more seams than absolutely necessary and the material is very soft, smooth and stretchy.

LITE still provides insulation, but more importantly its merino wool adapts to temperature and activity level. The LITE fabric has more contact points to the skin, thus heat is conducted more easily from the skin and out through the garment. This in turn makes our LITE products perfect as a cooler alternative, for high level activity and/or warmer temperatures.

Woolpower LITE stretches the season for Woolpower garments and can be used all year around.

Color Collection is a mid layer with exactly the same focus on functionality as our standard models. The difference is that the garments come in colors which may vary over the years. The design is also slightly different. The jackets in color collection lack extension in the back and thumb holes on the cuffs.

Children´s active lives put high demands on the equipment. Their clothes should be comfortable to wear, fully flexible and wear resistant.This year, we present a New Kids Collection consisting of a wider and more complete range. Among other news we now offering felt insoles made of our production waste. The insoles keep the childrens feet warm and dry while playing and having fun. As a manufacturing company we have an impact on the environment. We are aware of that and we are continually working to minimize it. We also strive to work with partners who think like us. A corollary is then that we are making sustainable products.

As part of this effort, we are now proud to introduce two new products: a specially formulated woolcare and felt insoles made of our production waste.

WOOLCARE – OUR OWN WOOLWASHArt. no 10490000

We are now launching our own wool wash specially formulated for woolen garments that need extra care. Wool has a self-cleaning ability which is something that we took into consideration when we developed our detergent. A prerequisite for us in this process was to find a good business partner. A partner with the same basic values on a sustainable and long term production.We chose Kempartner AB located in Sweden, a company that for many years has been actively working to reduce their environmental impact. By going through their whole production, making big changes and start to climate compensate, they can today call themselves a company with a climate neutral production.The result of our partnership is that we can now offer a wool wash that is gentle to both the environment and your clothes. It contains no encymes and only low-impact renewable surfactants. The woolen garment will be clean and long lasting. Woolpower´s wool wash also contains the natural wool fat lanolin to protect the delicate fibers of wool.All our products can be washed at 60 ° C (140° F).The bottle contains 500 mililiter liquid detergent which is enough for 20 washes.

We are constantly working to minimize the amount of waste in our production. Of the waste that despite this occurs we are producing insoles. Insoles that keep your feet warm and dry regardless of whether you are hiking, skiing or sitting down at the office. In addition, every insole is unique since the waste comes from our different garments in various colors. In this way we take advantage of materials that would otherwise be thrown while we can offer yet another high quality product on the market.

CERTIFICATION The production in Östersund is not only environmentally and quality controlled but, also certified in accordance with ISO standards. The material Ullfrotté Original is certified by Oeko- tex, an international human-ecology label that shows that the garments contain no toxic or harmful substances.

THE WOOLThe Merino wool we use comes from Patagonia and Uruguay in South America. This means we can guarantee mulesing free wool in our garments. It is important to us that no one in the production of our clothes, from sheep to finished product, suffers or being mistreated. We also want to support sheep breeding in these areas to increase the opportunities to re-create a fertile Patagonia.
