My first dance piece.Conceptual Dance - Performance.

My first dance piece is a work-in-progress project, a scenic proposal that take place when the public is waiting to enter the theater while the performer scorts them gradually to enter into the scenario.

The performance occurs during all this process when the interpreter is going in and out (INside the scene - OUT of the scene, in the waiting line entrance). I (as the creator and performer of this pieces) repeat this “in and out” during the whole piece always closing the door and following the same routine: choose a small group of public and accompanied them to a door while some information about the creative process of the piece is shared on the way.

The door that gives access to the scene through the backstage, drive people to enter inside through the stage, in this moment the public becomes part of the interpreters as they walk through the stage following me. After sharing some more information with them on the stage about the creative concerns of the piece they are invited to sit wherever they want in the audience seats. In that point the routine is completed, so I restart; I come out in the entrance hall where the public who have not yet entered is and star the routine (but always providing different information about the creative process).

Toast is Bread. Performance at Lisbon Architecture Triennale. CLOSE, CLOSER.

Toast is Bread is a scenic proposal that works on the everyday daily and usually and unavoidable tasteless routine. People generating a chain of possible situations. Reveling in the sounds trivial, in the precise description of anything-everything.

Between September and December 2013, three interventions were performed in the Kairos Pavilion, within the program of the Lisbon Architecture Triennale: Close, Closer. These interventions work with the interaction between the body (performing body and spectator body) and daily objects, and the built architecture. The interaction of this three parts is developed through a choreographic work, with special emphasis on the sound, the relationship between theatricality and the public and the “out of field “in the performing experiences.

The piece runs for an hour and a half, and driven performers interact reveal spatial and sonic qualities of architecture, public runs freely through the pavillion to attend the various phases of the intervention.

A Standard Sound Performance.Sound Art Installation at Matadero Madrid.

A Standard Sound Performance is an installation and performance proposal that make spectators and visitors of a space become performers and active visitors of this space. It is a reflexion on the expectant body and the relationship between body, sound and space: the listening body. The installation dresses seven locations in the interventioned area where people can listen to a series of tracks recorded and produced in situ by touching several surfaces of this spaces (walls, coaches, windows...).

All sounds were exclusively generated with the elements contained into the rooms where the track was recorded. There, while laying your head on the surfaces in order to “listen the surface” on which the work was carried out, the performance begins. In this point the visitor, transformed into an active visitor end up being the performer while the just arrived visitors observe how “someone is listening to a wall”.

The idea of this project is to intervene through various pieces of sound several spaces of the Cultural Center Matadero Madrid, to generate other ways of watching a space, different way of living a space, different way to behaviour into a public space.

The proposal doesn’t consist on providing ambient sounds, but samples that generate perceptual mixtures by means of vibration-based technologies. A Sound Performance Standard is a sound installation that works on the listening position.

A Snack.Performance at Matadero-Madrid.

A snack is a performative work in a public space, that through this performing intervention becomes the daily task scenario where interpreters prepare a snack for few guests: 200 people from the public. During two hours approximately, ten performers are preparing the ingredients for the snack. The performance takes place in summer, while a gazpacho (a cold soup typical pulses of Spain) is prepared.

The performers interact with the audience and each other links that have to do with the theatrical device and work in an “expanded kitchen”. There are six tables scattered around the public square and the public is flowing between the tables. It is a dance between performers and audience with the daily time Mediterranean cuisine. It happens that without realizing, a quotidian scene has invaded the public space.

This film is a record of a performance developed in the “Espacio Andaluz de Creación Contemporánea de Córdoba” during the final phase of construction in which the point of view reflects the vision of an external spectator witnessing the action. The choreography appears as a response to the building itself, proposing a series of movements related to the spacial sequence, shape and structuring patterns. The dancers reveal the spatial transformations as the different scenarios condition their movements.

Ball Pool Night.Urban Installation at White Night in Madrid

A playful, festive activity as the generator of a new urban landscape. Through the active involvement of the citizenship, urban space is transformed, for one night, into a playground.

Every single citizen becomes the origin of a new city. 24 000 beach balls were used to turn a regular square of the city of Madrid into a ball-pool in which thousands of persons played throughout the night.

UV-RAY Cabins.Urban Installation.

Urban installation consisting of 3 tanning cabins located on the beach of Voramar in Benicassim in july, high season. The project deals with the adaption of human behavior to the contemporary rhythm, generating artifacts the accelerate natural processes. Emerging enclosures for consume, spectacle and entertainment, as a shortcut between desire and satisfaction. Its objective is to rethink our daily use of public space through the impact of an absurd, ironic image. During the installation free tanning sessions were offered.

Winning proposal of the Fib Art 2012 competition.

Picnic Session.Installation - Instant party at CA2M.

Performative Event at the CA2M art center in Móstoles, Madrid. A giant symbol, a totem, appears flying over the audience, after a process of generating tension and desire. An instant party developed out of the blue. Euphoria as a catalyzer for collective feeling.

Portraits.Video-art serie.

The project tries to revise apparent reality constructing artificial images. Space is transformed through the actions held in itself, as performers are influenced by the characteristics of the established fiction.

It is an attempt to capture identities of particular social groups in a specific moment, invaded by an imposed situation. We promote the dissemination of the performers in different versions of their own personality. Scenes are selected and decontextualized into generic images, serving as backgrounds for the choreographed actions interpreted by the inhabitants of the portrayed atmospheres.

The cyclical structure of the scenes grant the actions with the sense of timelessness, creating deliberately constructed situations which express the dissonance established between the performance and its container. Accidents and mistakes due to the amateur condition of the actors evidence the conflict of the characters. The different audiovisual pieces conform a fragmented film based on the inhabitant’s individualities in relation to their context.

Gabrieles.Performance - Video.

Action in which two men, father and son who are namesakes, where his old shed is reconstructed, in the farm where they have lived for twenty years. The exercise aims to redo the memory with an ephemeral material contracting the time between two generations.

The Colony.Art students community.

Starting from an observation of the social ecology of the Facultad de Bellas Artes de Madrid, and because its particular relationship with its own space, uses and balance between practical and theoretical activities (essence in both Art and Agriculture), an intervention for a certain length of time is proposed, based in the generation of a community of people related through an open class. During this time (an agricultural growing season), and with the agriculture work as a common context for all, this laboratory is enriched by an agenda of weekly encounters, workshops, debates and actions, with the participation from both students and faculty staff.

Speculactions. Simulactions.Experimental workshops at architecture school.

Within the research group HYPERMEDIA [Workshop configuration and architectural communication] we have developed since 2011 teaching experiences in two pilot workshops within the academic offerings of the Degree in Architecture from the School of Architecture at the Polytechnic University of Madrid: Speculactions and Simulactions. In these pilot projects, teaching innovation was the biggest challenge, generating a teaching space within the curriculum where the approaches, methodologies and evaluation systems arise from the action, the actual production of events. The work: interventions in the city, travel, construction, develop an awareness where self-organization leads to self-learning, and the task of teachers is revealed as a spark for the ideal conditions for this to happen.

The presence at the university in an innovative way to gain knowledge, learn, research, focused on the action, complements the theoretical training in the fields of architecture covers. The actions proposed, both teaching staff and from the community of students involved describe a journey of endless scales and areas, from domestic actions, to work at the university space to large interventions in the city. Reflection and discussion, acquires a body after the implementation of the actions.

Urban Invaders.Experimental Furniture Workshop.

Urban furniture workshop in Istituto Europeo di Design about public space appropriation through its construction. Twenty IED students try to give different solutions to unresolved specific situations of Madrid urban context by the construction of four replicable and combinable prototypes. Each one of the prototypes have to be accompanied by precise assembly instructions (construction manual), in order to make them easily reproducible.

The workshop aims to think about how public space is used, which different paths we can choose for make its users more active and conscious about it. It’s all about going from public space to common space.
