Our head teachers and managers – that we will assist you to meet your labour shortages by developing a contemporary and attractive TAFE employment brand
-$1M per annum in building capability for 3500 staff each year for three years.
Key Capabilities
Sydney Institute – Workforce Development Guarantee
Primary aim is to extend the capability and qualifications of all Sydney Institute staff.
Will provide all participating staff with a recognition and learning pathway to gain qualifications across a range of specific skill sets in the five capability areas. Staff can apply for recognition and or a qualification using a non-payment fee code.

Leadership
Delivering workforce development services to enterprises – this refers to a wide range of services and solutions provided to enterprises and/or individuals. It may include promotion, relationship development, training needs analysis, management, gap training, recognition services, assessment, profiling etc.
Using technologies to do business – providing a range of services through the use of technologies. These services may be for communicating, learning, gathering evidence, record keeping etc.
Meeting the needs of diverse learners – providing a personalised service for all clients including specialist and support services, workplace learning, flexible or blended approaches
Interpreting and customising Training Packages – to meet the needs of enterprises
Leadership – actively developing the leaders of Sydney Institute

Features
Work based project – this is a project identified by College Management as a growth area. This is a ‘real-life’ project where staff members will gain skills through experience.
Workforce Services Team – identified by the College. This is the group of people who will make the project happen. That is they need to provide the workforce solutions to their enterprise. The team members may include: Teachers, Head teacher, ADEP, Business Consultant, Support staff and/or others from another campus/college.
Facilitator/Mentor is the person who will guide the team to developing their skills and experience. This person will have already developed skills and is a practitioner in terms of workforce solutions. The facilitator will help direct the learning of the team and provide support and training. Each facilitator will receive 5 hpw release to provide this support.
Professional Development – Workforce Services Team members will undergo a skills assessment, enroll in a skill set, undertake training, gather evidence and end up with a formal qualification.

Recognition Services
Staff who have undertaken a range of pd activities and/or experience inside and outside the Institute and who have not received formal recognition.

This target group aims at people who have already undertaken a range of activities and gained a range of experience. The aim is to provide recognition, enrolment and qualification. The targeted areas in Semester 1, 2009 are:

This area also includes those people who have been in leadership roles and have sufficient evidence to be recognised under a skills set; eg

Where staff, as a matter of legislative or Institute requirements need to upgrade their skills. This may include administrative, support or teaching staff required to meet legislative or Institute requirements eg; OH&S, Records Management, Project Management.
Teachers requiring a technical currency upgrade of their technical or professional qualifications to meet changes to Training package delivery and assessment requirements; eg, Fashion Design (CAD), Screen and Media (Interactive Digital Media), Children’s Services, hairdressing (Salon Management). Note: this does not include TAA IV.

Three important criteria exist for staff to apply for Top Up Classes under the Workforce Development Guarantee:
The course must already be one of the advertised mainstream programs.
It must relate to one or more of the five key capabilities in the Workforce Development Guarantee
A vacancy must exist. A staff member MUST NOT take the place of a fee paying student.
