In other words, workplace bullying can REALLY affect you, mentally and physically.

Some FUN facts about workplace bullying:

37% of workers have been bullied at work, an estimated 54 million Americans

72% of bullies are bosses; so 28% are subordinates and/or co-workers

60% of bullies are men, but 40% are women

57% of targets are women, and women bullies target other women 71% of the time

Male bullies target other men 54% of the time

Women bullies are slightly more likely to enlist the help of others to gang up on their targets than

male bullies

45% of targets suffer stress-related health problems, including debilitating anxiety, panic attacks,

clinical depression and post-traumatic stress disorder

Bullying is 4 times more common than harassment based on illegal discrimination.

Page 20: Workplace Bullying and Non Sexual Harassment_Katherine Repik

Criticism or ArgumentThe Federal government has drafted a national code that outlines the grounds of a workplace bullying policy. However, the code has caused a LOT of controversy.

The controversy is between worker union and employer groups.

Page 21: Workplace Bullying and Non Sexual Harassment_Katherine Repik

The Problem is …Some say the code’s terms are too specific, and others, say that the code’s principles hardly do anything at all.

While 35% of employees complain about workplace bullying, that still leaves a ton of people that don’t speak up! Reasons for this can be: they can’t afford to lose their job, they’d rather go through it then to stand up for themselves, and more! Bullies are intimidating and the argument here happens to be whether it’s really worth it to stand up or to just ignore it.

A Little More KnowledgeWorkplace bullying is not yet illegal! So it’s very important that EMPLOYERS pay attention to their surroundings.

FIRST:Tons of employees who feel like they’ve been bullied or are being bullied at work, suffer from depression or anxiety. They even visit doctors and start taking medication to help. So employers get the wonderful joy of keeping up with their employee’s increase in health care!

Page 23: Workplace Bullying and Non Sexual Harassment_Katherine Repik

SECOND:If bullying gets to a point that an employee quits their job, they could be eligible to unemployment reimbursement. If an employee is granted this, their employer’s unemployment tax expenses will increase!

I QUIT !!!!

Page 24: Workplace Bullying and Non Sexual Harassment_Katherine Repik

THIRD:If harassment is against a particular protected class, it may be illegal and would be expected to be corrected by the employer. This means that if an employee is harassed to a point they can’t stand it anymore, they may take action against the business for failure to do anything about it!

So you see, doing what’s right on the employer’s behalf, could potentially prevent any extreme actions from being taken.

And Lastly …

If bullying is a problem around your workplace, don’t be afraid to take a stand!

THE END!

It’s recommended that employers embrace a plan to help their employees understand that they SHOULD report bullying/harassment. They should also think about offering a training for managers/supervisors on efficiently overseeing a diverse business and how to handle problems that may occur.
