Sports Medicine Introduction I. Attention grabber: For anyone who has a favorite sports team or athlete an illness or injury can be completely heartbreaking. I think I can speak for a majority of UK’s students that when Alex Poythress tore his ACL it was devastating. We hate to see our favorites go down but we can’t wait until they come back, that’s where specialists in sports medicine come in. II. Listener relevance link: Even if you don’t lead a very active lifestyle you probably value your health III. Credibility Statement: I am qualified to speak about this topic because I have been an injured athlete who has had to see sports medicine specialists and I am also going to school to become a dietician with a specialty in sports. IV. Thesis: Sports medicine is a melting pot of different activities and people with diverse cultures and communications. V. Preview: Sports medicine can cover a wide range of activities from body builders to ballerinas and communication from each person but that unknown workplace can be described by Hoftede’s cultural dimensions.
