The High Street Upgrade is making good progress, with underground services relocations nearing completion, the majority of vegetation clearing complete, and earthworks on Stirling Highway and High Street taking shape.Works underway Forrest Street underpass Bulk earthworks to excavate the Forrest Street underpass are underway, with concrete pours in the western third commencing in late-August. Concrete structures were craned into the western third in early September, and retaining walls will be installed in the coming months. Once complete, the northbound lanes of Stirling Highway will be rebuilt and construction of the centre third will commence.

Forrest Street underpass – Western third progress

Montreal Street realignment The intersection of Montreal Street and High Street was closed in mid-July so the intersection can be realigned. A number of underground services, including power and gas are also being relocated in this area. When Montreal Street reopens in October the intersection will become left-in, left out only to address the significant safety issues at the previous intersection.

Retaining wall east of Royal Fremantle Golf Club To widen the westbound carriageway on High Street, a new retaining wall has been built along the Royal Fremantle Golf Club (RFGC) boundary near Carrington Street. The wall is currently being backfilled, in preparation for roadworks to commence.

unavoidable, our project team is committed to reducing the volume of after-hours works as much as possible. To achieve this, our contractor Georgiou has trialled a number of day-time lane closures on Stirling Highway and High Street. Trials have shown that single lanes can be closed outside of peak hours, without placing undue pressure on the road network. Following the success of these trials, intermittent lane closures will be in place until the project is completeLane closures during the day are not possible in all areas of the site, so some after-hours work will still be required, however, we are confident this initiative will significantly reduce the impact of the project on surrounding residents. Upcoming works Horrie Long Reserve – Drainage Originally a large underground filtration structure was proposed for be built underneath the future roundabout and in sumps north-east of the intersection. An alternative, more sustainable design have been developed, whereby an ecoAID infiltration basin will be installed underneath nearby Horrie Long Reserve. This option has a number of benefits, including:

Increasing landscaping opportunities and increasing path connectivity between underpasses by removing drainage sumps north-east of the roundabout

Replacement of reticulation and turf in Horrie Long Reserve

Recharging the ground water aquifer.Further details will be provided, when design is complete, however, the changes will require the temporary closure of the reserve and some minor traffic changes in the immediate area.Temporary roundabout To enable construction of the new Stirling Highway and High Street roundabout, a temporary roundabout will be constructed slightly to the north of the existing High Street and Stirling Highway intersection. Extensive communication about this change will be shared with the local community and road users prior to the opening of the temporary roundabout later in the year. Other upcoming activity:

Forrest Street underpass – construction of the western third of the underpass

Noise walls- preparation activities, including access tracks, and wall footing installation

Asphalting of new westbound carriageway and Montreal Street realignment

Earthworks continuing north and south of the High Street and Stirling Highway intersection

Montreal Street underpass – excavation Completion of utility service relocations,

including Western Power and Water Corporation.

Intermittent Saturday day-time works throughout the project area, as required.

Managing construction impacts During construction, equipment and vehicle movements may create some noise, vibration and dust. To minimise disturbance as much as possible, ongoing monitoring and testing will be undertaken and where necessary, additional controls will be implemented including modification of construction activities. Water trucks will regularly water down the project area, and apply dust suppressant materials where possible. Noise and vibration levels will also continue to be monitored.
