In this workshop we will look at: Settingupyourdrawingsheet Viewports Printingyourwork
OnceyouvedrawnyourworkintheModelspaceandyourereadytoprint,youneedtosetupyourDrawingSheetLayout(i.e.thepieceofpaper)youllbeprintingyourworkon.Intheorythetheonlythingthatwilllimithowbigthepieceofpapercanbeisthesizethepapertheprinteryouresendingittocantake.InmostcasesthiswillbeA0(8411189mm)althoughmorecommonprintingsizeswillbeA1(594x841mm)andA2(594x420mm).InthecaseofthisworkshopwewillbesettingupanA3page(420x297mm)asthiscanbeeasilyprintedtothecolourplottersandwillbestsuitthescaleofthedrawingdone.
SETTING UP YOUR PAGE LAYOUT:
Thisbasicallymeanssettingupthepieceofpaperyoullbeprintingyourworkonandisquicktodo.
SimplyclickonthetagthatsaysLayout1nexttotheModeltagonyourAutocaddocument(seeImage1).YouwillleaveyourworkingModelspaceandmovetotheLayoutspace(seeImage2).
Youllnoticeaboxonthesheetofpaperthatmayshowsomeofyourworkoragridinitifthegridisstillon.ThisisaViewport,whicharelikewindowsintotheModelspacewhereyouvebeendrawingyourwork.Itisfromthesethatyoucanzoomintoyourworkatascaletofitontothepieceofpaper.

Viewports and Scaling:
Youllnoticethepapersizehaschangedandshouldnowbe420x297mm(youcantestthisbytypingDIandmeasuringthelengthofthepaper)
YoullneedtodragtheViewportsothatitfitsontothepieceofpaper.DothisbyclickingontheborderoftheViewportandthendraggingitbyoneofitsfourcornerswheretheresabluebox,andthiswillmakeitbigger.RoughlystretchittofittheA3sheet(youcanchangethesizeoftheViewportatanytime).
NextdoubleclickinsidetheViewport(itsborderswillgobolderincolourandyoullnoticethePAPERtagchangestoMODEL-seeImage7).Scrollwiththemousetozoominandout.usetheZoomExtentstool(ZreturnEreturn)andyouwillzoomintheViewporttoallthedrawingworkyouvedone.ThisisagreatwayoffindingyourworkintheViewport.
UsethePantool(Preturn)tocentreyourgardendesign,pressreturnagainonceyouredoneandandyoullbereadytoscalethedesigntoasuitablesizeforyourA3sheet.
Thisisdonebytyping:
Zreturn,Sreturn,andthentypingthescaleyouwant,inthiscase1:100,bytyping1/100xpandpressingreturn.
ClickonMODELtochangebacktoPAPERandstopzoominginandoutoftheViewport.
ThisshouldbefairlysuitableforthesizeofthedrawingtofitcomfortablyontheA3sheet.Ifyouwantedtozoomtoadifferentscale(forexampletoshowaparticularpartofyourdesigninmoredetail)youwouldsimplygothroughthesameprocessandtype1/50xpfor1:50scale,1/20xpfora1:20scaleetc.
NB/ Onceyouvegotthescaleyouwant,youcanlockitsothatitwontchange(unlessyouunlockit) ThisisdonebyclickingontheborderoftheViewportandthen,inthepropertiesbox,clickingon DisplayLockedandclickYes.Thiscanbeveryusefultopreventyoufromaccidentlydouble clickingintheViewportandchangingitsscale.

TASK - CREATE A DRAWING SHEET:
Beforeyouprint,youllneedtocreatesheetbordersandtitlessimilartoImage8.YoucanusetheTools(Polyline,Textetc)justlikeyoudoinModelSpace.
YoumaywanttocreateaTitleblocklayertodothisin. Youwillneedtostatethefollowinginformationonthedrawing: DrawingTitle DrawingScale YourName Youwillalsoneedakeyforanyofthesymbolsandhatchesyouveused.YoucancreatethekeyintheModelspacenexttowhereyouvebeendrawingyourdesignandthencreateanotherViewportinyourLayoutandzoomintotheKey.
NB/ YoucanhaveasmanyViewportsasyouwantinyourLayoutspace.Tocreateanewone,simplyclick on:
View>Viewports>1Viewport
andthendrawtheViewportintheLayoutspacewhereveryouwantit.

PRINTING:
Toprint,simplyrightclickontheLayouttabandclickPlot.ThePlotboxwillcomeup(seeImage9)whichshouldhavethecorrectsettingsfrombeforewheneditingthePageSetupManager.IfyoudowanttochangePlotsettings(forexampleyoumaywanttoprinttoadifferentprinteroruseadifferentplotstyle)youcandosohere.ThiswillnotchangethesizeoftheactualpaperinyourLayoutbutdoesmeanyoucanprinttodifferentsizesandstylesasyouneed.
Howeverfornow,allyouneedtodoisclickonPreviewinthebottomlefthandcornerofthebox-thisisjusttocheckthateverythinglooksclearonyourplan.
Ifitlooksreadytogo,justclosethepreviewboxandclickOK.YouwillthenbeaskedwhereyouwanttosaveyourPDF.Saveitandthenyoucanopenitandprintit.AlternativelyifyouwishtoprintstraightfromtheCaddrawing,youcandosobychangingthePrinter/plottertoaprinterthatcanprintA3.
Ifyouwanttochangeelementsinyourdrawingsuchastextsizesorhatchscalesifyouthinktheydontlookright,yousimplyclosethePreviewbox,CanceltheplotandthenreturntoyourModelspacewhereyouvebeendrawingandeditwhatyouwishtochange.
