Workshop on Raman Spectroscopy
December 2nd, 2016, Thompson Hall, KSU
The Department of Geology has recently established a new Renishaw Invia Raman microscope facility. To introduce the capabilities of the instrument to the broader K-State community, we are hosting a half-day workshop on application of Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy is a versatile technique with broad application in geology, environmental science, chemistry, agronomy, archeology, engineering and anthropology. Programs: 1:00 – 2:00 Dr. Lahfid Abdeltif, French Geological Survey (BRGM), Room 208, Thompson Hall The interest of Raman Spectroscopy to characterize geological samples in both research and expertise fields. 2:00 – 2:45 Sylvain Delchini, Ph.D candidate, French Geological Survey (BRGM), Room 208, Thompson Hall Use the Raman spectroscopy to study the thermal history of the Jebilet massif (Morocco): mineralogical, fluid inclusion and RSCM analysis. 2:45 – 4:00 Demonstration Room 006, Thompson Hall Talks will be followed by a demonstration of the new instrument. You are welcome to bring your samples (contact the organizer for information about sample preparation). 4:00 – 5:00 Dr. Craig Marshall, University of Kansas. Room 213, Thompson Hall Polarized Raman spectra of single-crystal graphite: Revisiting the symmetry assignments of the D, D', and G bands.
