Automotive Expertise
InnovativeThermometrics has pioneered lead
frame technology used by major
temperature probe suppliers in the USA
and is set to revolutionize production
lines around the rest of the world. The
probe terminal and thermistor lead
wire are constructed of a single piece of
metal, reducing the number of intercon-
nections and ensuring a more reliable
device. The design allows for the entire
production process to be fully
automated providing for a more
consistent product at competitive prices.

Simplicity atits best
For the protection of exchanges,
manufacturers want a device that is
compact and easy to assemble.
Working closely with our customers,
we have designed a unique surface
mount PTC device, type YSM. This
patented design incorporates a
unique surface mount lead frame
construction to provide the
performance of a wired device. The
result is a simple to assemble, cost-
saving and space-saving device that
meets our customers needs.
against high voltages, short circuits and
other hazards. In office equipment
thermistors are used to control critical
process temperature.
With deregulation and new markets
emerging around the world,
Thermometrics is producing sensors
suitable for the global market and has
established manufacturing facilities to
meet local content requirements. To
satisfy these rapidly changing demands,
the company is investing heavily in R &
D to develop new products that will
reach and exceed the requirements of
our customers today and tomorrow.
Thermometrics’ sensors are used
to control and protect vital
telecom equipment and other
office machines. These include
telephone exchanges, telephone
ancillary equipment, computers,
fax machines, photocopiers,
battery packs, switching power
supplies, printers and pagers.
Using high performance ceramics and
the latest technology, Thermometrics
provides solutions that offer long-term

Whenprecisioncounts
Thermometrics has developed
remarkably small, high performance
sensors. Applications include the
thermodilution catheter fitted with a
biomedical thermistor for the
measurement of blood temperature.
A recent new development is a sensor
for portable blood analyzers that
accurately measures blood
temperature providing immediate
results right at the patient’s bedside.
Other innovative work carried out
includes small precision sensors for
cancer research. Thermistors are being
used to measure the temperature of
cells. By monitoring this precisely,
doctors can use heat to destroy
diseased cells in tumors.
Our facility in Edison, New Jersey is a
center of excellence. Here, state of the
art thermistors are developed, tested
and screened to ensure they meet the
ever challenging demands of the
medical market.
Thermometrics is the world
leader in thermistor temperature
sensors for medical applications.
Our NTC thermistors are
renowned for their accuracy,
reliability and small size.
These products are used extensively
for heart catheters, esophageal
stethoscopes, fever thermometers, skin
sensors, blood analyzers, incubators,
respiration monitors, hypodermic
needle sensors and many other
applications.
Thermometrics offers customers more
than just sensors. Our success results
from our expertise in solving
customers’ temperature related
problems.
Precision in the Medical Field 9

Electronic circuitry and sensitive
system components in heating,
ventilation and air conditioning
applications need thermistor
protection and control. The
sensors are used extensively
in process control energy
management, HVAC-systems,
power supplies, transformers,
motor soft start and general time
delay units.
Efficient Heating & Ventilation
Easy to useThermometrics has designed a
thermistor that represents a significant
advance in the accurate measuring
of water temperature. The probe
combines fast response with
mechanical robustness. This unique
product is increasingly used in critical
applications such as electrical showers.
Our custom-design capability and
problem solving expertise means that
we can provide innovative solutions in
circuit protection, temperature
measurement and control, liquid level
detection and gas flow measurement.
We have one of the most extensive
product ranges in the world.
10

ReliableThe measuring and control of
temperatures in refrigeration
equipment until recently has been
unreliable because of moisture
ingress, causing components to fail.
Thermometrics refrigeration probes
are specially designed to be resistant
to moisture ingress. Highly accurate
and reliable, these can now
increasingly be found in domestic and
commercial refrigerators.
Around the Home
Today’s consumers expect their every
day appliances to be very reliable
and efficient. Electronic sensors offer
improved accuracy over electro-
mechanical solutions and can be
designed to perform over very wide
ranges of temperatures and
specifications. Our sensors play a
vital part in measuring and
controlling the temperature of water,
steam, air and food. They are also
used for flow measurement, level
control, overload protection and in
combination with other sensors for
multiple functions.
Temperature sensors can be found all
around the home in washing machines,
dishwashers, cookers, microwave ovens,
irons, toasters, refrigerators and deep
freezers.

14 NTC or PTC
NTC ThermistorsNTC thermistors are manufactured from the oxides oftransition metals and can operate over the range of-196oC to + 1000oC.
When should you choose an NTC Thermistor?
When a continuous change of resistance withtemperature is required.
Thermistors are thermally sensitive resistors with either a negative (NTC) or positive (PTC) resistance/temperaturecoefficient. Thermometrics offers a wide range of both types of thermistors from component level through tocomplete assemblies.
Both thermistors are solid state ceramic components, known for their exceptional reliability and long life.
To help you choose between NTC or PTC, you will find a comparison of the two types of thermistors on these pages.
