Public awareness and camps held throughout October

10th October cervical cancer detection camp held at Mental Hospital, Nagpur. Pap smear of 14

patients was taken.

10th October release of CD on Breast Cancer at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital Dr. Murtaza Akhaktar

(Hod, Surgery Dept.LMH), Dr. Satish Deshmkuh Unit incharge were present. Breast Cancer week

celebrated form 10th Oct. onward at SOPD, LMH

18th Oct. 2013 World Menopause Day celebrated at LMH. Quiz was conducted. Dr. S. Dasgupta

Dean, NKP Salve Institute of Medical sciences inaugurated. Dr. Ujjwala Deshmukh, Dr. Sulbha Joshi,

Dr. Savita Somalwar were present.

20th October cancer awareness camp was organized at Dabha, Nagupr about 15 pap smear

were taken. One case of Ca endometrium was diagnosed & refers to Govt. Medical College. 3

cases of breast nodule were identified. Information about cervical vaccine was given by Dr. Alka

Kumar. Dr. Kamble, prof. & HOD Radio Therapy Department guided people on early detection of

cancer.

23rd & 24th October talk on HPV Vaccine & early detection of cervical cancer.

24th October to 12th November 2014 cancer awareness program , Public forum in association

with Local News Paper Tarun Bharat – Akansha Club were held at Nagpur

President IMS, India, 2013-14 30th October public forum on cancer awareness was held Dr. Alka Kumar & Dr. Pragati Khalatkar

were speaker. Dr. Alka Kumar spoke on Cervical cancer & HPV Vaccine & Dr. Pragati Khalatkar

spoke on Breast cancer.

Similarly public forum on cancer awareness by other members of IMS, Nagpur were held at

various places in Nagpur.

6th October 2013 :Documentary Release & Public Forum on “Breast Cancer” at Sai Sabha gruh

near Wockhardt Hospital, Nagpur . In presence Actress Girija Oak, & Abha Meghe, Director of

Meghe group of Schools

Dr. Ujjwala Deshmukh & Dr.Rashmi Mundra moderated panel discussion. Dr. Murtza Akhatar, Dr.

Krishna Kamble, Dr. Sudhir Bhave were panelist.

Skit on Breast Cancer played by Dr. Bhagyshree Gandhe, Dr. Swati Bhave, Dr. Sonal Bhole, Dr.

Sulabha Joshi, Dr. Sayunkta Gokhale, Dr.Jayshree Pendharkar.

REPRODUCTIVE & CHILD HEALTH OF INDIA (NARCHI) Nagpur Chapter, Nagpur Obstetric &

Gynecologists Society, NKPSIIMS- Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, & Matru Seva Sangh, Sita Buldi was

organizing a day long “COLOPOSCOPY” on Sunday 1st September at Matru Seva Sangh, Sita Buldi,

Nagpur.

The invited Guest faculty of National Repute include Dr. Veena Rahatgaokar (Pune) and Dr. Partha

Basu from Kolkata who was joined by local experts like Dr. Meherbano Kamal, Dr. Rekha Jaiswal,

Dr. Leena Bire Kalmegh, Dr. Vaidehi Shah, Dr. Sarita Kothari,

Topics for discussion were Cervical Cytology and Newer techniques, introduction to colposcope,

Anatomy and Histological basis of Colposcopy,Visual inspection of cervix, HPV Vaccine, Documentation and reporting in colposcopy , Guidelines for Cervical Cancer screening

Live workshop of Colposcopy was relayed. About 15 patient examined

21st August 2013 – Health Check up camp for Mentally Ill patients

IMS Nagpur Chapter Organized a gynecological check up camp for mentally ill patient at Mental

Hospital, Nagpur. About 58 patients were examined and pap smear test was done for 23 patients.

Dr. Abhay Gajbhiye Medical Superintendent helped in organizing the camp. Dr. Alka Kumar, Dr.

Kanchan Sortey, Dr. Ujjwala Deshmukh examined the patient




18th August 2013 – CME on “Breast Cancer & Hormones”

IMS Nagpur, Chapter held the CME on “Breast Cancer & Hormones” in Association with National

Association for Reproductive Child Health of India, Nagpur Chapter, on Sunday 18 August 2013,

at Hotel Bollywood Centre Point, Near Sakkardara Lake, Nagpur.

Mr. Dharmesh Fusate, Chief officer Mauda and Revenue Officer Narkhed , Nagpur Dist. graced

the occasion as Chief Guest while Mrs. Sujata Kombade, Corporator, Untakhana Ward NMC,

Nagpur was the Guest of Honour . In his address Mr Fusate requested all the gynaecologist to

cater for rural population. Sujata Kombade wanted slum dwellers to be screened for Cervical

Cancer and ways to reduce the cost of HPV Vaccine. Dr. Alka Kumar Secretary made welcome

speech and highlighted aims and objectives of the IMS requested members to care for Middle

aged women. Dr. Kanchan Sortey read annual report. Dr. Swati Bhave proposed the vote of

thanks.

The Installation ceremony was followed by CME on Breast Cancer and Hormones -Dr. Sushil

Mandhania, Medical Oncologist, Nagpur, spoke on“ Early diagnosis of Breast cancer with focus

on newer Screening modalities ”and “ Hormonal Therapy of Breast Cancer- Early & Advanced

stage Managing chemotherapy induced Menopause. Dr. Kshama Kedar, Dr. Vandana

Medhekar, Dr. V.D. Deshpande , Dr. Varsha Kose were the Chairpersons.

Dr. Ujjwala Deshmukh leading obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Shree Nursing Home, was

installed as Secretary and Dr. Swati Bhave as Jt. Secretary IMS for term (2013 to 15) along with

their team. This was followed by Vidarbha Level Inter-collegiate quiz on menopause on the theme

: “Ovaries have retired, but I am not!” Of the 6 Teams, IGGMC represented by Dr. Meera Aglawe

was declared winner She will represent Vidarbha at National level annual Quiz of IMS. Dr. Alka

Kumar, Dr. Kanchan Sortey, Dr. Vaidehi Shah, Dr. Rujuta Fukey were the Quiz Masters.

Dr. Amit Jaiswal , Oncosurgeon Nagpur spoke on surgical management of Ca Breast” He said

emphasis has shifted to more conservationa of breast tissue than disfigurement due to advances

in techniques . Dr. Vaidehi Shah, Dr. Ujjwala Deshmukh were the Chairpersons.
