! Randall McCadams of McKenzie, TN has become an invaluable part of the Healing Hands family over the past several years. With his unique agricultural and military background, he brings many talents to the ministry.! Randall (or Randy as many of us call him) has traveled with Healing Hands’ agricultural director, David Goolsby, to help conduct food sustainability workshops in Nigeria, Afghanistan and Kenya. He has also assisted at Harding University’s HUT program and HHI’s Nashville workshops. Randy is a very “hands-on” volunteer. He is pictured to the right building solar drying racks for our first MEAL workshop in Maiduguri, Nigeria in 2008.! Randy especially has a great passion for the people of Honduras. It began in 1998 when he was stationed in the village of Los Pozos with the National Guard. Since then, Randy has returned to Honduras every year and has established relationships with many families there.! Randy often travels to congregations in the U.S. telling them about the Magi Project and collecting boxes to be delivered to children in Honduras. But Randy doesn’t just support the Magi project here in the states. He also travels to Honduras every December to help distribute the gifts and visit the churches that are receiving them.! Randy’s service does not stop with the Healing Hands ministry. He has also served as Family Support Coordinator for military families in McKenzie providing transportation, repairing homes and listening to relatives of soldiers who were deployed in Iraq. He has also served as a volunteer for an equine therapy group called Spirit Lake Recovery Center, a rehabilitation clinic for men suffering from substance abuse.! Needless to say, Randall McCadams has a huge heart and a great passion for showing Christ’s love to everyone with whom he comes in contact. We are most grateful to have him as a part of our Healing Hands family.! Are you or someone you know interested in volunteer opportunities through HHI? If so, email Cindy Herring at [email protected] for the Nashville, TN office. Contact Brenda Jones at [email protected] for the Ft. Worth, TX office.

Randall is very passionate about making sure that hundreds of kids in Honduras have a happy Christmas each year.

Transforming Short-Term Missions! One of the greatest drawbacks to short-term missions is the inability to track patients over time. Healing Hands has always been a source for medicines and supplies for short-term mission trips. Now, through the dedicated work of HHI’s Brandon Post, we are also able to supply groups with the means to track their patients and record interactions.! In January of this year, a group of Lipscomb Pharmacy School students traveled to Honduras with thousands of dollars in medicines supplied by HHI, and with several laptop computers containing the newly designed medical database.

! Using this database, the students were able to record patient names and personal information along with diagnosis and prescriptions given. In the future, medical professionals will be able to provide more long-term solutions for these patients.

! One of the most exciting things about the ministry of Healing Hands is the partnerships we form with churches and other Christian organizations who share our passion for showing the love of Christ to those who are hurting. The partnership we have formed with the Afghan-Lamia Foundation is a great example.! Lt. Gen. John Bradley, retired, and his wife Jan established the foundation for the purpose of empowering the people of Afghanistan. Over the past few years, Healing Hands’ warehouse has served as a storage, sorting and packing location for several containers headed to Afghanistan. We have also had the opportunity to assist the Bradleys by providing medical equipment like anesthesia machines, baby incubators and operating tables.! Joseph Smith, HHI’s director of operations, had the opportunity to help General Bradley transport the most recent container to the local Air National Guard location to see it loaded onto a C-17 for the first leg of its journey. ! For more information about shipping services through HHI, please contact Sean Judge in the Nashville, TN office at (615) 832-2000 or Brenda Jones in the Ft. Worth, TX office at (817) 536-3383.

Healing In Haiti - One Year Later! It is hard to believe that fourteen months have passed since the ground shook in Haiti. In that time, God has used your hands to carry out His healing work for the people there.! To date, Healing Hands has been able to drill 40 clean water producing wells throughout the Port-au-Prince area. In regions where wells have not yet been drilled, we have distributed hundreds of water filtration kits. With these efforts combined, we have brought clean water to more than 20,000 people. ! Many of you heard about the Nursing School that was destroyed in the quake. Healing Hands funded the re-building of that school and we are continually sending medical teams equipped with supplies to better train the nurses in this school.! HHI’s Director of Agriculture, David Goolsby, is on the ground in Haiti now along with our Director of Haiti Operations, Harry Hames, as this newsletter is being written conducting a food sustainability workshop on the property of the Sonlight Children’s Home. Many families will learn the skills needed to grow their own food as well as the ability to teach others these valuable skills. ! Most importantly, the churches are seeing a great increase as a result of these efforts. “Praise God! In Poteau

we have had 147 baptisms in the last year. The water filters were profoundly helpful in that community." This is a statement made by Dr. David Smith of Haiti Christian Development Project, one of the sister organizations that HHI partners with in Haiti." For more information about the continued work in Haiti, visit our website at www.hhi.org/haiti.

To date, Healing Hands has provided clean water to more than 20,000 Haitians.

! It is a 28,000 square mile region spreading across four states within our nation. There are close to 200,000 members of the Navajo Nation. More than half of their households live in poverty. When we talk about the poorest of the poor, we generally are referring to those living in developing countries. However, there are regions of our own nation in which families struggle to scrape together one good meal each day.! In 2001, Healing Hands had the opportunity to partner with the Manuelito Children’s Home in Gallup, NM to deliver more than 20,000 lbs. of food and cattle feed to the families in the Navajo Nation who had been affected by severe winter weather. ! Now, ten years later, HHI has an even greater opportunity to change lives in the Navajo Nation. Working in partnership with the Tusculum church of Christ in Nashville, TN, as well as several churches in the Navajo region, Healing Hands is planning a food sustainability workshop in May of this year. HHI Director of Agriculture, David Goolsby, met with preachers and members from 13 various congregations throughout the four state area at the end of 2010 to discuss logistics for building raised bed gardens which will be used for nourishing the Navajo people and also for training them to continue feeding their families for years to come. ! Soon after these initial meetings, the Navajo people were again devastated by severe winter weather. Once again, Healing Hands was able to meet those immediate needs by providing the funds to repair damaged pipes in members’ homes as well as in church buildings. We also distributed food, fuel, cattle feed and blankets.! Healing Hands is very excited about the opportunity to partner with the church in this region to empower the Navajo people to better care for themselves. Please stay tuned for more information following the workshops planned for this May.

First Responders In Japan! On the morning of March 11, 2011, most of us woke to see devastating images from a nation on the other side of the world. We were all shocked and our hearts went out to the Japanese people as we heard reports of the effects of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and the tsunami which followed. ! As first responders in times of international disaster, Healing Hands quickly began contacting church leaders in Japan to assess the needs of the people. It was determined that the easiest and most cost effective way to meet the immediate needs would be to send funds and allow church leaders on the ground to purchase and distribute supplies.! Since 1.4 million people are without access to clean water, HHI is making plans to begin sending water filtration kits with Americans traveling over when it is safe to do so.

! Please continue to remember this relief effort in your prayers and check our website frequently for updates: www.hhi.org.

! There is an old African saying: “If you teach a man you have taught an individual, but if you teach a woman you have taught a community.” Women are the heart of their families, churches and communities. They are the ones who make sure that everyone has what they need. ! That is why Healing Hands believes in empowering women in developing countries with the resources they need to better care for themselves and those around them. Through a partnership with Dr. Willa Finley of Lubbock, TX, there are several ways that we are doing this:1. We are providing sources of

accessible, clean drinking water.! This allows women to have less strain on their bodies from carrying water. Children can return to school who would have otherwise spent hours carrying water. Families no longer have to worry about water borne diseases.2. We are providing training in skills

like drip irrigation, food preservation, jewelry making and basic business management.

! With this training, women will not only be able to provide nutritious food for their families, but also a reliable source of income.3. We are establishing “dry season”

schools so that children are able to get an education during the months when they are not expected to be working in the garden.

! In many places, children are not able to attend school because they are expected to work throughout the rainy season. Classes will be based around the dry season schedule so that children can get an education and still be available to work when needed. ! In January, we invited ladies at the “Women of Hope” conference to join us in this effort by making a monthly commitment. The response was overwhelming and more than $20,000 has been raised so far! Now, we want to invite you to be “worth a million.” The sponsorship levels for individuals are:

• $5 a month - Amethyst• $10 a month - Opal• $25 a month - Pearl• $50 a month - Emerald• $100 a month - Diamond• $200 a month - Ruby You can also make a commitment as a group at $25 a month and up. This is a great opportunity for your Bible class or other small group!! For more information about the “Women Worth a Million” program, contact Alisa Van Dyke at (615) 832-2000 or [email protected].!
