World Vision Canada Core Values

There are certain values that lie at the center of World Vision’s work.

These core values are the fundamental principles that determine their commitment to

each other and the poor.

World Vision History

The Beginning:World Vision began in China with an American

missionary named Dr. Bob Pierce.

World Vision History

In 1947 Pierce met Tena Hoelkedoer, a teacher, while on a trip to China. She introduced him to a battered and abandoned child named White Jade. Unable to care for the child herself, she asked Pierce, "What are you going to do about her?" Pierce gave the

woman his last five dollars and agreed to send the same amount each month to help the woman care

for White Jade.

World Vision History

Canada has been part of the World Vision family since the early days. In 1950, Pierce held the first meetings in Canada to discuss what he had seen and learned in Asia. In 1957, Canada's

first World Vision office opened in Toronto.

World Vision Fundraising• We are involved in a variety of fundraising efforts with the ultimate

goal of raising more money for – and more awareness about – programs that help people living in poverty. When Canadians like you support us, we can make a bigger impact in the lives of children and families overseas.

World Vision Fundraising

There are many seen our fundraising efforts, such as in the mail, online and in TV, radio and print ads. Fundraise in malls, at concerts and other special events, as well as face-to-face

through street and door-to-door canvassers.

How much money World Vision spends on fundraising

Overall, just 13.7 per cent of our expenditures go to fundraising, while 81.1 per cent goes

directly to our work with children and families. Again, we fundraise to better help people living

in poverty.
