Maths Children in all year groups will learn skills and techniques for calculation daily, as well as being taught, specifically, how to apply these in problem solving. Reasoning skills will be developed to enable children to deepen their knowledge and understanding, working towards mastery of all aspects of maths. Year 3&4 I can solve problems using the methods I know. I am beginning to apply my knowledge of multiplication facts to solve problems. Year 5&6 I can confidently solve multi-step problems. I can prove or disprove a statement by finding evidence through mathematical investigation. I am confident when I approach maths problems. I use eective and ecient methods for calculation. Hay Class Curriculum Letter Autumn Term 2018 Literacy I can write non-fiction texts based on my historical research. I can use sub-headings, paragraphs, boxes and pictures to organise my information. I can write poetry based on poems I have read. I can use common poetry features to engage the reader. I can plan and write stories with familiar contexts, sometimes based on texts I have read or heard. Year 3&4 I start sentences dierently so my writing sounds varied. I use correct technical vocabulary to convey information. My work shows that I understand the genres of non- fiction and poetry. Year 5&6 I carefully control my use of complex sentences. I use a range of punctuation for eect. My writing across all genres engages readers. I vary clause structure within sentences to show formality and add interest. Spelling Children are expected to learn spelling patterns and rules as well as applying their knowledge of phonics to spell words correctly in all writing. This carries high importance across Key Stage 2 and builds on all phonics teaching in Key Stage 1. History Children will study an aspect of history significant in the locality. I research to find out more about WW1. I understand the significance of WW1 locally, nationally and internationally. I present my findings in an appropriate way. My understanding takes into account the emotional significance of what happened. I can place the event on a timeline in the context of national history. Geography I can locate countries, geographical features and cities. I can use digital mapping, globes and atlases to locate countries. Art I use the work of Edgar Degas, Joe Sacco and Paul Cummings as inspiration for my own work. I develop observational drawing techniques. My work contributes to large scale displays and I understand the part individuals play in wider community arts projects. Science Year 3&4 I can explain how shadows are formed. I can describe how shadows change in size. Year 5&6 I know that light travels in straight lines and that it is reflected from objects. I can draw a diagram to show how we see things when it is light. I can draw the shape of shadows when I know the shape of an object and the direction of the light source. I can plan and carry out fair investigations, controlling variables eectively. WORLD WAR I Music I can sing songs within a historical context. I can adapt and change songs through my use of poetry. PE Rugby, football and swimming.

I use effective and efficient methods for calculation.

Hay Class Curriculum Letter Autumn Term 2018Literacy I can write non-fiction texts based on my historical research. I can use sub-headings, paragraphs, boxes and pictures to organise my information. I can write poetry based on poems I have read. I can use common poetry features to engage the reader. I can plan and write stories with familiar contexts, sometimes based on texts I have read or heard. Year 3&4 I start sentences differently so my writing sounds varied. I use correct technical vocabulary to convey information. My work shows that I understand the genres of non-fiction and poetry. Year 5&6 I carefully control my use of complex sentences. I use a range of punctuation for effect.

I can plan and carry out fair investigations, controlling variables effectively.
