From the Pastor’s Desk…

My Dear Friends in Christ,

It has come to my attention, from a devout parishioner, that there will be a fortune teller

sponsored by Shop Rite of Clinton on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the

Blessed Virgin Mary, of all days! I think this is more than coincidence but a truly gross act

of anti-Catholicism. Going to mediums, fortune tellers and playing with Ouija boards are

a direct opposition to our faith and a grave matter for confession. As your pastor, I would be

remiss not to warn of the severity of such a thing. Please pray for the conversion of this

medium who is attempting to contact the dead and that the Clinton Shop Rite would decline to

sponsor this event. As Catholics, we pray for the dead, that they rest in peace, that their time

in purgatory is short. We do not conjure up their spirits.

Sacred Scripture condemns all sorts of occultism. It violates the First Commandment, “I am

the Lord Your God, you shall have not any strange gods before me.” Here are some of the

scripture references; Exodus 22:18, Deuteronomy 18:9-12, Galatians 5:19-21, and Revelation

21:8 to mention a few.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church deals with the violation of the first commandment,

specifically fortune tellers in paragraph 2116. It states: “All forms of divination are to be

rejected: recourse to Satan or demons conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely sup-

posed to ‘unveil’ the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of

omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire

for power over time, history, and in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to

conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect and loving fear that we owe to

God alone.”

Let us pray to Almighty God through the intercession of Our Lady, who constantly shows us

the way back to her Son, that we may remain steadfast in our faith, and strong in our witness

to Christ our Lord.

Yours in Jesus and Mary,

Fr. Brighenti

Eucharistic Adoration: Persevering

in God’s Grace “My grace is sufficient for you for power is made perfect in

weakness” -2 COR12:9

The Christian journey takes perseverance.

Scripture says that even “the just man falls seven

times a day” (Proverbs 24:16). Despite the fact

that we seek to avoid sin and to practice virtue,

our human nature is prone to weakness. Often we

can feel this weakness as a great burden, yet Jesus

is there to console us. In Eucharistic Adoration

we come into contact with a God who has made

Himself ‘small and weak’ in order to make us

strong-- in Him. We can come to Jesus with our

burdens and ask Him to heal us and to give us His

grace to persevere to the end. God does not ask us

to be successful but to be faithful. Then we can

say with St. Paul, “When I am weak, then I am

strong” (2 COR.12:10).

Adoration Takes Place:

From after the 9:00 am Mass until 11:00 pm, Monday, Tuesday, and Friday

From after the 9:00 am Mass until 7:00 pm Wednesday and Thursday

Overnight Adoration takes place Every First Friday of the month until 8am Mass

(See website for details)

For more information or to sign-up for an hour, contact Lucille Hess at (908) 788-5988.

“Being Lost”

How many times have you been lost? Not knowing where

you are and having a hard time finding your way back.

The earliest memory for me was when I was five years

old. Lost in what a five year old might consider the

biggest world, Disney. Caught up in the excitement, for

just a moment I was distracted and wandered off.

Thankfully my guardian angel grabbed my hand and

brought me to the nearest security. It was scary. But when

I finally saw my parents, their love was what I desperately

desired.

“The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back.”

There are so many ways that we become lost, both

physically and spiritually. Today’s society is filled with

distractions that we can easily lose our way. For many, if

we were to stop just for a moment and ask, “Where is my

life leading me?” we might see how far we have ‘strayed

away’ from a path we are called to follow.

“I myself will pasture my sheep”

Jesus said that, “I am the way, the truth and the light, no

one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn14:6). We

all want to know ‘the way’ in life, especially when we get

lost. Jesus is ‘the way’. He was sent to proclaim ‘Good

News’ that recovers sight to the blind and free the

oppressed. Through his ‘words and deeds’ we encounter

this ‘Good News’ that can transform us and help us

‘follow him on the way’ (Mark 10:52)

Words from Pope Francis: “The Joy of the Gospel”

“The good news is the joy of the Father who desires that

none of his little ones be lost, the joy of the Good

Shepherd who finds the lost sheep and brings it back to

the flock. The Gospel is the leaven which causes the

dough to rise and the city on the hill whose light illumines

all peoples.”

Personal Reflection:

What is going to be the light that illumines your path to-

day?

The Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ, desires to guide your

heart deeper into his pasture.

Start each day this week asking the Holy Spirit to open

your heart so you may hear the voice of the Shepherd

calling for you.

In Christ

First Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17 This passage beautifully describes how the

Lord God, as shepherd, will tend his flock. He

will rescue those who are lost, bring back

those who stray, heal the sick, and “pasture”

all.

Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28

Paul once again stresses the significance of Christ’s resurrection in the total divine plan,

emphasizing that Christ’s rising means that

those who believe in him will also rise after

death. Christianity, he argues, is meaningless

if it concerns only this life on earth. In the

end, even death will be destroyed, and “God

will be all in all.”

Gospel: Matthew 25:31-46

With words both poetic and vivid, Jesus tells

the disciples that since he is present in all

people, whatever they do to “one of my least

brothers” they do to him; and whatever they

fail to do to his “least,” they fail to do to him.
