The decorations are made in white and gold to symbolize the perfection and majesty of Christ. The white lights remind us that Christ is the light of the world. The decora- tions on the Tabernacle Chrismon tree were made in 1978 by the ladies of the WWW Sun- day School Class. The tree was dedicated on December 5, 1978. This Chrismon tree has been a part of the Tabernacle Christmas cele- bration for the past 34 years. Today’s featured ornament is the angel ornament. It is common in scripture for angels to serve as God's messengers to humans. Whenever an Angel appears the first thing they usually say is to not be afraid. In Luke's Gospel an angel appeared to shepherds working the night shift to announce the news of Jesus' birth. He told the terrified men and women to not be afraid, but rather to be joy- ful; the Messiah had been born! Because of this birth all of humanity can be joyful because Jesus has proven once and for all that God is for us rather than against us. Jesus' life and death provide us with an example and show the lengths to which God will go to preserve God's relationship with humans. December 16, 2012

CHRISMON TREE The first Chrismon tree was at Ascension Lu-theran Church in Danville, Virginia. In 1957, decorations were designed for a tree in this church using designs and monograms used by early Christians. The decorations are made in white and gold to symbolize the perfection and majesty of Christ. The white lights remind us that Christ is the light of the world. The decora-tions on the Tabernacle Chrismon tree were made in 1978 by the ladies of the WWW Sun-day School Class. The tree was dedicated on December 5, 1978. This Chrismon tree has been a part of the Tabernacle Christmas cele-bration for the past 34 years.

Because of this birth all of humanity can be joyful because Jesus has proven once and for all that God is for us rather than against us. ONE “USEFUL” FOR SERVICE: PAUL’S LETTER TO PHILEMON A new Sunday School Class for Adults of all ages, 9:30-10:30 a.m., De-cember 30-January 6, 2013, Conference Room on first floor. The New Testament’s shortest book, Philemon, is just 25 verses in length, yet it has endured as part of the Christian canon for almost 2000 years. At first glance, there doesn’t seem to be anything spectacular about this let-ter. It’s not taken up with deep, theological thought or grand notions of universal ethics, but with the matters of everyday affairs. It’s not even ad-dressed to a community of believers, but to a single person—and on be-half of an errant slave! What word did it offer to the early church that it thought should not be lost? What word does it offer us? Join us as we examine these questions!

NOMINATING COMMITTEE BALLOT The Nominating Committee has submitted a ballot for 2013. You will find copies in today's bulletin and also in the back of the Sanctuary. We will vote on the ballot, alongside the 2013 Church and Child Care Center Budgets, on December 30.

VOTE ON BUDGET AND LEADERSHIP BALLOTS TO TAKE PLACE ON DECEMBER 30 The Administrative Board is grateful for your comments and questions about the draft of the 2013 budget. The document stands as it was pre-sented and is now considered to be the final version. We will vote on both the Church and Child Care Center Ministry budgets on December 30; both documents are available for review in the back of the Sanctuary. Please prayerfully consider both of them. The Nominating Committee has also submitted a leadership ballot for 2013 to be voted for approval on Decem-ber 30. You will find copies of that document in the back of the Sanctuary.

CHRISTMAS CAROL MEDLEY

Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-born King; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” Joyful, all ye nations rise, Join the triumph of the skies; With th’angelic host proclaim, “Christ is born in Bethlehem.” Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the new-born King!” The first Nowell the angel did say, Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter’s night that was so deep. Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel. Joy to the World! The Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let every heart prepare Him room, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven and nature sing, And heaven, and heaven and nature sing. O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem! Come and behold Him, born the King of angels! O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!
