Welcome! A special thanks to all of you who helped welcome – by putting together flower arrangements,

singing, greeting, folding bulletins, and in so many other ways -- over 3000 people to Easter

worship last Sunday!

Today, we continue in the spirit of Easter by moving into our 2nd Mile for Mission campaign.

Over the next three weeks, you will have the opportunity to hear about how God is at work

through RPC and our mission partners. Please consider how God might be calling you to

support this important work.

On Thursday, I had the privilege of getting to know some of the 35 students that meet weekly

at Aspen Pointe. Under the direction of Dr. Clara Herrera, Director of Neighborhood Action,

and many volunteers, young people in our community are finding meaning and purpose through

God’s love. Because Clara is not usually at RPC on Sundays, it can be easy to forget that she is

hard at work during the week. She connects RPC with many families in our community that

often feel marginalized. Please join me in lifting Clara, the Aspen Pointe community, and our

Neighborhood Action Ministry up in prayer.

Joyfully,

MORNING WORSHIP

2ND MILE FOR MISSION

APRIL 23, 2017 8:15, 9:45, 11:15 A.M.

GATHER IN GOD’S NAME

WELCOME

PRELUDE The Old Rugged Cross arr. Mark Hayes

* CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Followers of Jesus, by his cross we are redeemed from the futility of sin.

All: Alleluia!

Leader: By his rising we are free from the fear of death.

All: Alleluia!

Leader: By his love we are made new in the living and enduring Word of God.

All: Alleluia!

Leader: Christ is risen!

All: Christ is risen, indeed! Thanks be to God, Alleluia!

GIVE PRAISE TO GOD’S GLORY

* HYMN 371 Lift High the Cross CRUCIFER

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God, we so often miss your kingdom at work among us. We are self-centered and focused on

only what is right in front of us. Forgive us when we work against your plans and purposes - fostering

divisions when you have called us to a ministry of reconciliation; consumed with apathy when the

world has such deep needs; and building walls around ourselves to keep people out when your love

reaches far and wide. Help us to grow in faithfulness, we pray, so that we may see the world through

the mind of Christ and live in the world as a foretaste of your new creation.

Now, hear me, as in silence I confess to you my personal sins...

SILENT PERSONAL CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS

* HYMN OF RESPONSE Thine Is the Glory JUDAS MACCABEUS

Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory

Thou o’er death hast won.

Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away,

Kept the folded graveclothes where Thy body lay.

Thine is the glory, Risen, conquering Son; Endless is the victory

Thou o’er death hast won.

SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (9:45) Brooks Patrick Buckley

* CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE (9:45) Child of Blessing J. Erickson

Child of blessing, child of promise, baptized with the Spirit’s sign,

With this water God has sealed you unto love and grace divine.

Child of God your loving Parent, learn to know whose child you are.

Grow to laugh and sing and worship, trust and love God more than all!

Do you like new things? Have you ever made a new

friend, gotten a new toy, or moved to a new place? New

things can be very exciting! This morning our scripture passage

reminds us that anyone who believes

in Jesus is a new creation! That means that even when we do

something wrong if we ask for

forgiveness, God forgives us and it is like we are totally new. We have a completely fresh start, and that’s awesome! Say a

prayer thanking God for making us new

creations.

Today marks the first Sunday in our 2017

2nd Mile for Mission campaign.

Please locate the 2nd Mile envelopes in the pew rack to

make a gift or commitment in support of RPC’s

Mission Outreach in our community and

the world.

Each month, we welcome a new group of members into the Roswell Presbyterian Church faith family. Becoming a member

involves two steps: 1) attending the Exploring RPC class and 2) being part of Membership Sunday. We would be delighted if you chose to

make Roswell Presbyterian your church home.

If you want to learn more or are ready to become a member, please complete this form, place it in the offering plate

during worship and plan to attend Exploring RPC in June 2017.

Exploring RPC Class Information

Join us for this class designed to help you get to know new people at RPC, learn more about church programs, and discover places to

worship, pray, give, study, and serve. Class will be held in Alderman Hall on Sunday, June 11, 9:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. and includes worship

time at 8:15 a.m. in the Historic Sanctuary and complimentary lunch. (Reservations are requested for the classes by/before noon on

Monday, June 5.) Childcare for infants through Pre-K is available upon request.

Membership Sunday – June 25

We invite you to join in the fellowship of RPC by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior or by renewing your commitment to

Christ in a new church home. On this Sunday, we gather for a family-friendly breakfast in Alderman Hall and then transition into the official

meeting of the Session to welcome new members. New members may join by Profession of Faith, Reaffirmation of Faith, or Transfer of

Letter. Advance reservations are requested. Contact Stephanie Jacobs, Director of New Member Connections, 770-649-4522.

Red Hot Service Opportunities

I want to help!

_____ Every month on the day we welcome New Members, we also have Nametag Sunday. This gives us all an opportunity to

welcome each other by name. We need some more volunteers to greet at the Nametag tables and remind everyone to put your

nametag on. If you are interested, please contact Pam Blackstone, [email protected]. The next Membership/

Nametag Sunday is April 30.

_____ Compassion Points involves RPC members volunteering to share airline and hotel reward points for other RPC members in

need of assistance traveling for medical tests. Register at www.roswellpres.org/care or email your participation to Katherine Duley,

[email protected]. RPC members in need of assistance must contact one of RPC’s ministers, www.roswellpres.org/

pastors.

_____ Would you like to be on the Visitor Calling Team? Every couple of months you will be assigned a few first-time visitors to

call and welcome to RPC. It is a great way to welcome new people to the church. For more information, contact Ted Gum,

[email protected].
