Next weekend, kicks off the Bishop’s Ser-vices Appeal (BSA), which is an annual ap-peal that helps to support and sustain over 40 programs, min-
istries and services of the Catholic Church in Acadiana. Since 1973, the BSA has been Supporting the Works of Christ by serving others and minister-ing to those in need. Besides charitable endeavors, the BSA helps to support vocations and other services St. Pius X and other parishes need, but could not otherwise afford on their own. Here at St. Pius X, we have benefitted greatly from services provided by the diocese, especially technical expertise in bookkeeping, architectural work and financial planning. The goal this year, to be accomplished through the com-bined efforts of our 121 church parishes and 28 missions in our diocese, is $2.64 million. Our parish goal is $144,062. In addition, fairly new to the BSA is the opportunity for parishes to receive 50% of the funds collected that surpass the parish goal. Surpassing our goal
would directly benefit our parish, so let’s hope we are able to do so. I can't thank you enough for your support in the past years, and I hope you are able to continue your generosity in an effort to provide hope, dignity and compas-sionate care in the lives of others through the programs, ministries and services supported by the Bishop’s Ser-vice Appeal.
To contribute to the appeal, please keep a look out for the campaign mate-rials mailed to your home. If you don’t receive the materials by next week, there will be pledge envelopes and bro-chures in the Gathering Area. Addi-tionally, you can donate online by visit-ing: www.diolaf.org/bsa then “Make a Gift” in the navigation menus.
“Candlemas” As I mentioned last week, today we celebrate the Presentation of Lord (also called “Candlemas”). On The Presen-tation, we celebrate the revelation of Jesus as the light of the world in fulfill-ment of the prophecy made to Simeon, who declared Jesus “a light to the na-tions” in Luke’s Gospel. In conjunction with this Feast, Pope Saint John Paul II instituted a day of prayer for women and men in consecrated life. Those who live in a vocation to the consecrated life
reflect the light of Jesus Christ in a spe-cial way by making vows called the “Evangelical Counsels.” The Evangeli-cal Counsels are poverty, chastity and obedience, and undertaking them is considered to be a most radical imita-tion of Jesus and witnessing at the highest level of Christian commitment and perfection. Prayers for those in consecrated life lift them up to fulfill their vocation, and the fulfillment of their vocation provides us with a beau-tiful witness to the fullness of disciple-ship that we all desire.
At St. Pius X, we have (as far as I know) four current vocations to the consecrated life. Fr. Pio Hoffman is a Franciscan and we are blessed with his presence when he is able to come visit during his annual family visit. We also have three graduates of St. Pius Ele-mentary School who have entered the Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará (Servidoras), a branch of the Institute of the Incarnate Word. Sister Marie Jardin Clos Toups (Caroline Toups), Sister Mary Mother of God (Alaina Keifner), and Sister Mary of Calvary (Maggie LeBlanc). Please re-member to keep these daughters and son of the St. Pius X community in your prayers!

Ever thought of trying something new and different in 2020? Would you like to use your God-given gifts as well as share the Gospel through music in our community? This would be a perfect time to become a part of our music min-istry at St. Pius. We rehearse on Wednesday nights; the children’s Choir from 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. in the St. Cecilia Room, and the adult choir rehearses from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in the church. No music experience or music reading is re-quired. We would love to welcome you for a trial period if you would like to see if you want to be a part of one of our musical groups with no long term commitment. This would be a perfect time to join in as we start a New Year and continue on our journey towards the Lenten Season, Holy Week, and Easter! Please contact Karen Melancon at [email protected] or call the church office to speak with Karen if you have any questions.

Weekly Meetings
Wednesdays 1 pm - 2:30 pm Annex-Conference Rm. A For over 17 years, a group of adults convene to put together the 7,000 Rosaries St. Pius X distributes each year to schools, missionar-ies, hospitals, charities, and the poor. Truly in the spir-it of collaboration to make St. Pius X what it is today, they even provide the Ro-saries for other ministries, like the Prayer Quilt Fellowship, Hospital Eucharistic Min-istry, Nursing Home Visitation, RCIA, Life Teen, and the Knights of Columbus.
Rosary-making veterans and beginners alike commit to making Rosaries weekly. Some meet at St. Pius each week and others pick up supplies to make the Rosar-ies at home. All are invited to participate, and no prior experience is needed as the members will help train an-yone interested. All sup-plies are provided at no cost. Attendance is flexible and doesn’t require much commitment.
Involvement in this minis-try helps to evangelize and spread the warmth of God’s love to others, not only teaching people how to say the Rosary, but giving them the means to do so as well. There’s nothing more re-warding and purposeful than that, especially when we are able to provide Ro-saries to Mission Churches in Africa, the children at the Missionary Sisters of Chari-ty’s Summer Camps, or those who need the healing power of prayer because of an illness. This ministry lends a hand to those who need God’s prayers the most, thanks to this lively, hardworking and dedicated group. Call Janet Hiatt for more information—337-232-4656.
